  1. WTF? If it means so little, than you should stop caring that I still believe Lynch hit-and-run the victim.
  2. Who was the victim in my speeding? When you find one, I'll start feeling guilty. By your moral equivallence, I would presume we should all really turn ourselves in when we commit speeding violations, even if the police never detected that we went too fast. Look, stop playing avoidance here with the real issue: I don't believe Marshawn's alibi. It may say that according to the law he is innocent unless proven guilty, but that doesn't hold true in the court of public opinion. Morally, well, maybe for you meter maids minor traffic violations are the moral equivalence of a hit-and-run, but to most people I think they are very different.
  3. The insurance companies tend to frown on speeding. The lawyers costs plus the court costs add up to roughly the same as the charge for the fine of the ticket, but you avoid the points on your record that could cause your insurance company to either severely jack up your rates, or drop you altogether. Seems a bit much for cruising 70 in a 55.
  4. Great points, Kelly. It's also reasonable to believe that if an upstanding person were to have hit a girl and drove away out of fear of getting caught, he would have later felt guilty about doing such a thing and made a point of using the press to his advantage and clear his conscience. In all likelihood, if he had taken that route from the beginning this would have been settled early and to everyone's satisfaction, and without any significant difference in legal punishment from the one that he received. What that tells us is not an objective story of naive innocence from a quality young man, but a combination of repeatedly poor judgments and a disturbing lack of compassion for the victim. At least that's how I see it.
  5. No, it points to the fact that they have agreed to the plea and that it MAY be possible he didn't know he hit her. I say he did, you say he didn't, but only Lynch in his heart knows for sure, and you can be sure he'll take it to his grave if he did. I believe that if he actually did do something so horrible as hit-and-run the punishment should be a lot more severe than a little fine and no criminal record. Do you feel that people who get parking tickets and do 70 in a 55 on an open highway deserve much worse than a fine and a lawyer who negotiates the penalty off your record? If so, well, you'd make a great meter maid.
  6. McCain-Feingold? Just sayin...
  7. Objective can be subjective apparently. I also find it quaint and idealistic how you identify speeding to be on the same level as hit-and-run. Very similar to those on the other extreme who equate Lynch with OJ.
  8. How about: "Toronto's got a spirit, talkin' proud, talkin' proud."
  9. Yet another bad ruling from a court that looks at the constitution as if it were the paper lining on the bottom of a birdcage.
  10. I see...so anyone who doesn't agree with you about something lacks common sense and intelligence. Great, now I can just stop thinking for myself and do what you say - makes my life easier, so I guess I should thank you. Er...maybe I should wait for you to tell me if I can thank you.
  11. Indeed I do...how's bout you, sister?
  12. Yes, it is possible that a lot of things in this world happen or don't happen. He pleaded DOWN to a charge that doesn't force him to admit he knew he hit her, the DA accepted it rather than drag this out for another year, and now we move along. I've been busted for speeding before, hired a lawyer who was able to get me off with just court costs but no conviction or record of my speeding on my license, and that was the end of that. Does that mean I wasn't actually speeding? You decide for yourself. So, let's return to you shutting up about telling other people how they must think...it's a very bad habit.
  13. No. He is pleading down to a charge of not being careful enough in avoiding hitting someone. Look, if you personally choose to believe the fact that he honestly had no idea that he ran the girl over that's your business, but you certainly should shut up about telling others what they are allowed to believe.
  14. Gee...how objective of you.
  15. Why does he need to accept an apology if he believes he is lying?
  16. Should have been this: Clark and others have said that...Lynch would have been charged with leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident, a Class A misdemeanor. Oh, well...he's rich, famous and has a bigtime lawyer. Those of us who are disgusted with Lynch will remain disgusted, and those of you who have remained Lynch fans throughout will continue to be Lynch fans. And that's that.
  17. Neither are the Iranians or the Afghanis. "Moslem" would be a much better label to use than "arab", as the Koran is the one common denominator (despite shia/sunni friction over hadith).
  18. I see what you're saying, but keep in mind there is a reason parents shouldn't let their 10 year old kids watch porn or the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Kids are impressionable and formative. Parents need to be the ones who impart values on a child's life (obviously), and now athletes are more and more becoming a bad element that parents need to monitor. It's not all or nothing, properly raised kids can think and reason right and wrong for themselves to a degree, but if you aren't careful as a parent your kids will be more vulnerable to the bombardment of pop-culture trash that they constantly face.
  19. I think what Obie means is that children may be tempted to think honor, accountablity and responsibility are not important values when their favorite players act this way. Of course, this doesn't mean quality parenting won't overcome it, but it does mean parents have to be more alert than ever in raising their kids NOT to be like the guys they are cheering on the field.
  20. He was perfectly matched with his Presidential running mate.
  21. Obama should pick Chuck Haigle, while McCain should choose Joe Lieberman. That would sure add some spice to the race.
  22. We have a large presence of troops firmly in place on Iran's Western and Eastern borders. Could come in handy...
  23. I disagree. McCain will lose badly because he lacks passionate support from the GOP base. Low voter turnout from his own party will kill him.
