  1. Im all for it. About a month and a half back I suggested this. I hope that Edwards is cut loose that Hass is brought in, Fitz is the backup and we draft a QB to develop either this year or next (prolly next since the QB depth in this draft isnt that great and we need a LT soooo bad).

  2. To echo what's already been said:

Picking a RB at #9 is akin to shooting yourself in the head. It's dinosaur thinking. The NFL is a PASS FIRST league, it has been for the past decade and it will only continue to be more so. If you don't think so, you haven't been paying enough attention to how football games are won these days. Need proof? Look at the percentages of PASSES on 3rd and 2 compared to runs. It's over 71%.

71% of the time on 3rd and 2 an NFL team PASSES the ball.

Want more proof? No team has won the super bowl without an elite QB under center since Dilfer did it ... and that was a decade ago.

3 yards and a cloud of dust is the old school NFL. Those days are over. And, until the league adjusts the rules to give DBs more of a fighting chance, they ain't coming back. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

The rest of the NFL knows this. It's why we've seen more teams going to a RB by committee approach. It helps with injuries, but it's more because it doesn't make financial sense to spend a huge chunk of your cap dollars on a RB when their ability to impact a game is becoming less and less.

Yes, Chris Johnson is a stud. How many super bowls has Tennessee won? What about Minnesota? Who was the RB for the three Patriot Super Bowls? What about the Saints? Or Colts?

Wasting the number 9 pick on Spiller would be equivalent to flushing the pick down the toilet even IF Spiller is an all pro. Why? Because RBs don't win games. QBs do. If the Bills feel that one of the QBs are a franchise type guy, they HAVE to get him. Even if it means moving up. If they don't think there is a legit franchise QB in the draft, then the deficiencies in the trenches has to be addressed before even thinking about a HB.

If you don't see the logic in this, then you're living in the past. I'm sorry. The game has changed. Adapt or die.

    Finally some logic

  3. I agree but I'll call it the Adrian Peterson exception. One of the last things Minnesota needed was a RB a few years ago but Peterson ended up being their pick. His last season he seemed mortal and had a problem with fumbles but rare talents are...well...rare. If this guy is running sub 4.3 40's and is a home run threat play maker everytime he touches the ball it is tough to pass that up. I think LT and QB are much bigger needs as far as making the team better quickly. If we are on a 2 - 3 year plan then getting rare talent is more important perhaps than filling holes. Some would call it the best player available philosophy. People will kill me for this but I think Lynch would be a better compliment to Spiller. Might not Spiller just end up being a better Fred Jackson? Where would be the change of pace Beast mode?

Here is the difference. The Vikings had there LT of the future in McKinney and they jsut signed an All Pro Guard in Hutch. True they needed a QB but There OLine and Dlines were solid when they went ahead and drafted a RB because he was the best player available.

The real question here is draft philosophy. I believe that the best way to build a team is to build from the lines out. Strong line play on both sides of the ball can make your skill positions look better, it does not work the other way around. And to all of the draft the best player available people.... this is teh NFl draft there are no such things as cant miss players. You need to go intot he draft year in and year out with a philosophy. And when building a team you need a long term plan. Look what the falcons did a few years back, they drafted a QB and a LT in there first year of rebuilding. The following year they drafted a DT in the first round. This is a team on the rise... why? Not because they have been drafting WRs and RBs in the first round.

Why is it that the bills have sucked the past decade? One, our QB play has been terrible. Two, our coaching has been terrible. Three, our OLine has been inconsistent and below average at best & four, our manegment has made bad personel decesions.

I am not trying to knock Spiller. The kid may be a great talent I jsut know that he is not what the Bills need right now to build a consistent winner. He may be what we need in three years but not now.

  4. Well, there are other rounds in the draft.....

As for QB, the only one I would want is Bradford. And I wouldn't want him that bad. So I think QB is out of the question, especially as the first round goes.

As for the line, we have a great interior line (needs depth, which we get from later rounds). But the only start we need is an LT. Which we can draft in the 2nd round.

The real killer is we need a NT badly.

A great interior line? That may be the overstatement of the century. We have an average center, a good (but by no means outstanding yet) second year guard in LeVitre & a good other guard who is comming off of a MAJOR injury. How about following the JETS plan and draft Oline until it is playing at a high level then worrying about QB...... and THEN going with skill positions.

  5. I am appauled by some of the people on this board. Have you guys learned nothing from watching the Bills this past year. WEAPONS MEAN NOTHING IF YOU CANT GET THEM THE BALL. You cant run effectivly without a strong line, you cant throw without a strong line and decent QB. We have neither of those! Last I checked we had a 1,000yrd runner on the roster that we are happy with and we also have a pretty darn good backup (even if he is a scum off the field). DRAFT LINE OR QB.

  6. well hold on there cowboy, if we took spiller and got a 3rd or better for lynch it wouldnt be so bad now would it?

Yes it would. We need big bodies and a QB. I dont care how good a RB looks I dont think you take one in the first round let alone the top 10. You can find RBs you cant find QBs and LTs. You need to take a guy who can be a cornerstone of your team when you have a top 10 pick. I hate the idea of a skill player right now until you have built your front 5 on the O and your front 7 on the D. Forget WRs and RBs....please please please draft a tackle!

  7. I also agree with the concept of building through the draft BUT that does not mean you do nothing in free agency. The Jets & Dolphins added pieces to get better and the Pats did work resigning Wilfork, Neal and Banta Cain. I know it was only day one but with such a weak FA crop to begin with all the even half way decent ones will be gone and we will once again be stuck holding visits with over the hill vets who will still choose a different team over us.

    Oh yea PS GO BILLS

  8. So we want to start two rookies on the offensive line for the second straight year? I like the idea of going after a veteran tackle in FA and another in the draft.

We have been debating on this board whether they should draft a QB or a LT. How about the idea of drafting a QB like Bradford or Clausen at #9 and then trading back into the first for a LT like the kid from Iowa if hes there in the mid to late first?

I know we have a bunch of holes but getting these two positions filled ASAP so they can begint o develop should be priority #1

  9. a joke? - actually winning is the only measurable i care about - i could less about mechanics, footwork, etc. . . - just get the wins neccessary to get into the playoffs and beyond

winning is the only measurable - internalize that - it is a truism

So Im confused do you mean you would want a guy who was a winner in college? The point of my questions is to figure out what guy has the best chance TO WIN in Buffalo. Sooo if your point is that you want a college winner I would guess that Tebow is at the top of your QB draft board huh? Yea good luck with that one.

  10. I asked this question because we have seen many combinations of these charecterisitcs since Jimbo.

Rob Johnson had the Arm strength and mobility but not the intelligence or leadership or durability.

Flutie had the mobility the leadership but not he arm strength

Losman had the arm strength and mobility but no accuracy or intelligence

Bledsoe (Bills version) had the arm strength, the accuracy, the intelligence but not he mobility.

Edwards has the ummmmm the ummmmm ok forget Edwards

Im intrested in what should be the msot important and then which QB in this years draft fills the top of your priorities if any?

  11. We all know that our Bills need a franchise QB. That being said what things are you most interested in?

    Arm Strength?

    Accuracy?

    Mobility?

    Intelligence?

    Experience?

Ability/experience of playing in bad weather?

    Character?

    Leadership?

    Durability?

If you had to put these things into order of preference when deciding what to look for in a franchise QB for the Buffalo Bills what would it be?

  12. This is a good list but I really only think these 4 are worth this type of approach:

    Definites:

    McNabb

    Kerry Collins

    Maybes:

    Pennington

    Garcia

I'm not sure McNabb would want to come here - but K. Collins might!

    Garcia is done.

Pennington couldnt throw in New York before the latest injurt you thnk he could succeed in the conditions in the B-Lo? uhh no

Collins would only be ok if we drafted a QB this year and gave him a year to develop cause we may find out very quickly that Collins has hit the wall and is done.

McNabb would be great but its just not realalistic.

I am of the opinion that we need to fix the line and establish an identity before we draft a QB. Rookie QBs have a much better chance to suceed if they come into a team that is not a complete dog. (Sanchez, Big Ben, Flacco---good....... Harrington, Carr, Alex SMith bad). Yes there are some exceptions but I do think that we should build the team with a vet at Qb and maybe wait a year to draft a QB. Not to mention that this QB class isnt exactly the best.
