Totally get the disparity in quality of wins and losses. Can be indicative of future performances. Even the Bills wins, minus Panthers and Jets, were competitive, frustrating affairs for much of those games. The Bills have not played terribly well overall to date. (Which is all technically in the past, of course.)

But also, statistically, winning early (first quarter of season, for example) and often also has an outsized negative influence on those early opponents' records. And, of course, the Bills could reasonably improve and go on to win games against playoff-bound teams despite those early scraps. This is why the cliche "Week 1 is a liar" exists, because the sample size is  small enough to be simply binary: 1 or 0. Can't really tell a meaningful story with that one data point. So this week will add a LOT more to our developing understandings of the 2025 season. And still it's early.

All great points.  Agree with the point made.  However , I’m sure like me there are those on here that have watched the bills or football for 30-40 years. The eye test , your gut feeling, your basic football knowledge, intuition, whatever you call it is a real thing and probably just as valid judging a teams play quality by mathematical analysis or other metrics. You know when the Bills look good and have that swag.

This year it’s not there , at least yet. Yes we beat the ravens by 1 point , after they just did things to collapse and we did force some lucky turnovers. 9/10 times we lose that game but that night things went our way by ONE POINT after our d gave up 40!  We all know giving up 40 usually is a loss. So in my eyes it’s a win , but that’s about all to say about it. Then we beat poor teams like the jets, saints , panthers. We lose at home where you normally are given a 3 point edge , to a qb just starting his second year , a new head coach just beginning to build his roster , and we looked bad on 0 , scoring what 20, after Beane baby chastised a radio host because we lead the league LAST YEAR SCORING 30 a game.  Where was 30 that game Beane baby. First real evidence that take cook away and WRs can’t get open.  Plus we saw a player Beane had praised be disciplined , fumble in the pats red zone , and drop passes while flailing his arms !  Not the true 50/50  , greatly improved guy we were told about in camp. Beane digging in on his delusion. We proceed to go to Atlanta. Everybody knew we had to stop 2 people , Robinson and the receiver. We gave up an embarrassing 335 yards in the first half and our offense looked terrible as cook was easily shut down. Josh looked confused as did the o line. Terrible game. Since the fins demolished the falcons as did another team and we saw how great the fins were tonight. Two bad losses when many on this lard touted an undefeated season or how it was a given for the 1-seed!  You know who you are !

Every football analyst like Orlovsky , the nfl films guy on brownies bills show , even fitzy tonight on prime stayed the bills are not playing as goood as the chiefs or colts and it comes down to 3 things. Like Steve smith said , thus is a wr corp of 3’s and 4’s and Coleman is not that guy now , and is playing lazy snaps and so afraid to be hit he didn’t even look at the db on a slant , just caught the ball with his body and turtled rather than catch w his hands and get yac.  They all state this wr corp is not sb quality. They all also point out Josh’s decrease in performance and no ones sure why tho a terrible receiving corp he lacks confidence in may play a role. Even Josh admitted his fundamentals are off. Finally , but not least , all who are honest know this d has been a mess until last game. But do you trust your analysis playing a terrible team with a horrible perfidy by dalton to say thus d is now good?  I don’t. Dalton is no Mahomes , and Reid wasn’t coaching Dalton. My point is, trust your eye test and your bills knowledge. Reid is 4-0 against McD in playoffs , while we are 4-1 in regular season games.

This is not a typical regular season game. It’s critical in the standings first both.  If we lose , kiss the 1 seed which Beane and Mcd  stressed so much as the path to the SB all offseason!  Pats will prob take the division based on schedule. We lose and KC , colts, ravens , pats are all suddenly looking to be peaking at the right time , November, and we are fighting for a wild card in all likelihood.  So far we have beaten only poor teams except for the very lucky win against the ravens, and watching them tonight , if we play them again it’s likely we lose. They are getting more healthy , we aren’t and we are filling our roster with guys we previously let go over a year ago ( and they were also let go by other teams ) , and our starters like benford , Milano, our undersized mlb , Coleman , white are not living up to expectations as we wait to see if Hancock and Hairston can catch up.  We even have a ? At kicker now.    Palmer is out and Oliver is out , not good for a game we’re already overmatched talent wise ( an opinion by most analysts , and both sides of the ball). So , yes , we have a record of 5-2. BARELY!   My eyes tell me this roster is not SB quality , and perhaps Josh can do enough if he plays better , to get us a wildcard birth and outside shot  at the division should we lose against KC. I dint have faith in Beane doing anything but protecting his own reputation and pride. While the world calls for a wr addition like olave, I’m betting he does nothing to help Josh w a wr. He will point out Gabriel is on the way!  He was terrible in Jax!   Not all wins are equal. If so , we have the better record , playing at home ( yet we’re home dogs) so we should beat KC , right?  Hey we could get a cowboys like running type win, but spags is no cowboy.  What does your gut , your eye test of bills play say to you?  Mine says if we get behind at any time by more than 1 possession, it’s over. My eyes also tell me it will lead to more losses with a wr corp that like Steve said , is poor and filled with WRs who scare no other team.  Another wasted year of a superstars career that is half over or more.   Quality of opposition, quality of wins is predictive of future play. If you dont believe that , then explain how Vegas sets odds and why they are so successful at attaining wealth ?

Can the Bills win Sunday ? Yes if they run well and win the turnover battle by 2 imo.  My eyes also  tell me we beat crap teams so far , KC is getting better and they have a larger margin to make mistakes and win.  I think they pound this d , Brady abandons the run , and this wr corp can’t get open to make up any deficit. Bills possibly miss playoffs with a loss, while a win to me means they have embraced being a run team and they make Josh the superstar , a manager as Beane won’t get quality WRs. That’s not great to watch in all honesty but winning is all that matters now.  Prior games have meaning and so far this roster looks below par being lead by a true star whose career is flying by. Beane is nice? I see him as arrogant. Happy Halloween!

  2.        Not sure if it was mentioned but Orlovsky did his weekly appearance w tasker and brown where they asked him about Josh. Orlovsky was very honest and stated Josh has not played well approximately the last 4 games.  He is missing easy throws , missing open receivers,  his scrambling looks off where he is usually dangerous in that way.  It was a very frank , honest assessment coming from an analyst that could get dropped if he offends the regime, but he didn’t hold back. He did say the WRs are not threatening really to anyone. But he was firm he expected better play from last years mvp.
On the other hand he remarked how good Mahomes is playing and looks to be in SB OR prior good form. Our O does  not have a defining personality outside running cook , and that was almost exclusively toss pitch runs the last game.  KC once again is coming up with innovative plays , and they have a multitude of receivers who bring different threats the bills will have to find ways to cope with.  They have speed, speed plus strength ( rice) , thorton stretching the field , Hollywood brown with speed and experience, and of course Kelce.   Hunt will still be able to run with pichecko out.   Basically , bills will have to score over 32 to beat the chiefs , or teams like the colts , bronchos , and KC come playoff time according to Orlovsky.  He and tasker both ended saying we have to score on most possessions to keep up with KC and have a chance to win this week.  Neither sounded enthusiastic, but the main point is Josh is not playing well despite what he says regarding certain passes. The wr corp is poor at getting open but Josh looks out of sync.
Cower stated the same while on the SHOUT podcast but of course believes in Mcd etc. Matt bove along w Howard Simon and Joe buscaglia all feel the wr corp needs an addition, w. Howard being especially critical. They feel KC is a critical game for the season. Beane obviously didn’t make any moves in time for KC regarding the WRs , so I wouldn’t see the point trading if we lose. Pats just have such an easy schedule.  Hard to feel positive playing KC as right now Josh and Mahomes look to be playing at different levels; if Palmer doesn’t play ( Orlovsky thinks he is important) and spags neutralizes cook , it’s could be season changing for the Bills.

Sample size is really to small to claim Brady doesn’t know what to do with a number 1 receiver. The bottom line is he’s never had one. Like everything else in the world the poor passing offense is because of a multitude of things. Josh playing poorly, Brady not drawing up more creative plays, WRs being garbage. It’s all of these things together

Diggs was a #1 wr by all definitions and Brady managed to misuse him enough that Diggs got frustrated and worked his way out. He had a great wr crew at lsu winning a national title with burrows and chase etc. He knows what to do , most can see he is being controlled by McD who called him out unprofessionally in a presser saying playcalling got too cute. Mcd did similar things with daboll.  Now in addition the gm refuses to draft a wr with a first round pick ( only exception is kincade , a te, not wr ).   In addition Beane chose to attack a radio host , white, about not supplying Josh w wr talent.  Unprecedented stuff and gives insight how either mcd or Beane prefer to win; ball control with low risk for turnovers , and running the ball augmented with short yardage quick passes. Why do we need a UNICORN QB led by a controlling HC who is afraid to let the qb be himself and be so risk adverse it’s a boring style of football to watch?

THATS ALL  FINE,BUT, they hide behind being lucky enough to have hit on Josh as their franchise qb. Thier draft record is filled w many more misses , as is free agency , and Beane has given out many poor contracts putting them in cap difficulty for a while now. It’s all self inflicted. We have a supposed great defensive HC yet his defenses are the weakest part of the team ( 31 st against the run going into yesterday ), with  small oft injured lbs, low sack producers , perhaps the worst db room we’ve had ( other experts analysis , Orlovsky) , and Beane has resorted to bringing back old prior fired players like Poyer to fill the ps.  I’ve followed football 40:plus years and have never seen  roster construction like this.

Mcd is in his 9 th process year and has 0 sb APPEARANCES, DESPITE 5 east titles POSSIBLE BECAUSE BRADY / Belicheck who dominated Mcd are gone. Add the most egregious loss caused by poor coaching, 13 seconds,  which blew a red hot playoff qb run by Josh and the team keeps losing to the same franchise , KC!  Now there are signs a competent coach may have a franchise qb with the pats becoming a legit challenger and  a 4-0 start was blown as we are a legit second place in the division.   A win against a hapless Carolina team led by an incompetent red rifle did little to prove the passing woes with this wr corp will be adequate when a team like KC stops cook from running. Also throw in a team AND QB  appearing disinterested or maybe going thru the motions until their expected or  entitled playoff appearance ( after preseason saying they needed the 1 seed to get to the sb ) and I think even the best fans are tired of lip service about a Lombardi when the play we are watching is honestly uninspired.  it difficult to feel passion for a regime that always talks championship caliber play but we. Know we really aren’t witnessing that quality of play

Finally, we also know Allen is a once in a lifetime qb with phenomenal throwing and running skills. We’ve seen him be remarkable before despite only once having a legit #1wr ( mostly Beane provided him with bums , avg free agents , low round wr picks ), and in his 8 th year his time is rapidly passing while it’s obvious he is being restrained this year from running and the current wr corp has no legit speed , deep threat, or talent that opposing defenses MUST ADJUST / ACCOUNT For, and even Allen’s grandmother commented on his unhappiness. So tell me do you really exoexct the prideful Beane  , after nationally  bragging about attacking the radio host who challenged his wr choices , to swallow his pride after a 40-9 win which he will use  to justify this crazy roster building ( while we know it was a meaningless win and our passing game looked anemic still) , AND BRING IN WR HELP MIDSEASON?  Probably not. Plus we’ve seen midseason additions not integrated well in the past. It’s depressing seeing a new qb like maye grab all the headlines while a true star like Allen is throttled back by this staff and all under an owner who seemed like a nerdy sports clueless guy on hard knocks who seems unlikely to demand  better coaching and RESULTS!

I can’t be enthusiastic blindly again unless they actually win in the playoffs now.  I bet I’m not alone in thinking like this.  I’ll watch , but expect little UNTIL they at least get to a SB. REMEMBER , WE WENT TO 4 straight before with less talent at qb but a roster that had multiple HOF INDUCTED PLAYERS ,A COACH AND GM!    Happy Halloween!

Defense has looked much better since the second half of the Atlanta game. If they perform well next week, we are in good shape.

That’s a big “IF”. !   Falcons got smoked by the fins , we beat dalton behind a patchwork o line.  Hardly convincing stuff. Let’s see how many times they get to Mahomes ; then we will have a more accurate picture about playoff type football.  I don’t see Cook running for 200 yards either as Reid will key on him.

I agree with you tho , perform like that against KC, and it would be reason to be optimistic. Pats have an easy schedule  tho, we will be without Oliver most Likely as well,, so we might be a wildcard and should that happen , it will be like prior years as not getting that week off and playing on the road is unlikely to lead to a Super Bowl.  I prefer to see the Bills actually beat some quality teams like KC, TAMPA,  OR PITTSBURGH before fully buying in.  Hey , they have fooled me for 8 years so now prove sometime to me.    Happy Halloween!n

Well. We are still getting pressure.

Yep, against possibly one of the worst OL ‘salso riddled with injuries.  Plus it was an immobile Andy dalton.  Won’t happen against Mahomes.  It does matter who you play and we always struggle to sack Mahomes. Great w today , but just  keeps pace w the Pats who have a very easy schedule compared to the Bills.  Get 7 sacks against the chiefs and I will be very impressed.

Pretty sure Reid is smart enough to take away cook running. Our oc still can’t find him in our passing game. Our o line will struggle protecting against Jones per usual and if Palmer is still out ,it migt be a long day for Allen. He still doesn’t seem like himself; escaping backwards and he never scrambled at all today. Guess someone is not wanting him to run ?!  Wonder if it is Mcd, Brady, Beane , or his beautiful wife? If it’s her , I would completely understand as no way could football ever compare to keeping her a happy wife!  lol!   Next week will tell us the truth , this w is like fools gold !  lol!   I don’t care what anyone says , not every W is created equal!  Best wishes , Happy Halloween!

Well if they bring Poyer up to play next to him I think having a guy who is basically a coach in the field can be an asset to Bishop. He seems like a smart kid. Just needs reps and experience. I think the tools are there.

Yeah , but who covers for poyers lack of speed while he’s teaching bishop?  It’s a ridiculous premise , bringing back players you cut two years ago for declining play and now suddenly they are answers for the starting lineup?  It’s laughable , it’s a lack of vision by Beane and it’s his worst moves as the gm so far forced by his inability to draft well enough to have young talent developing.  No other franchise is operating like this.  .  If your draft picks are all injured and not adding much outside of one pick , then you are failing and your priorities need adjusting. It’s the 9 th year of the process which has not reached a SB, let alone win one , and there are other teams progressing now like the pats, broncos , colts , while the chiefs are looking like their  consistent  afc championship form.  Bills d is the worst by far against the run and SB teams usually run well and stop the run well. This has the warning signs of another failed year , and Allen’s career is going by rapidly. He is pressing and not processing well as he can’t trust the wr corps.
Holding on to this coaching regime next year is just accepting the status quo by fearing change. Pegula has not proven he can manage to produce championship caliber franchises, and he appears to lack true sports knowledge .  Carolina goes in today undefeated at home on a 3 game wining  streak while the  Bills come in losing two in a row , ranked 31 st in the nfl  against the run. If they lose today , the wheels are falling off and KC will prove just how lacking the Bills are next weeek. Beane should be held accountable, yet imo it won’t happen.

It’s almost like he flat-out doesn’t like playing with Lawrence

Look, some guys don’t translate well to the NFL.  Coleman has had his issues after Poyer

hit him and he is still not eager for contact.   Why take on another head case?  Bills have enough guys who end up as healthy scratches ; we can’t fix every problem player and in fact look at what happened with cooper.  His enthusiasm was waning and he played soft and missed more games after his “ wrist injury”, only to retire this year.  Samuels has been another mess. Palmer had so far been disappointing. This guy has looked terrible in Jax and so why bring in another receiver with issues when it’s already a problem issue?  Quit falling in love with names; production matters and film doesn’t lie.
The Bills can’t even develop their own home grown 5th wr who made it this year, and our OC can’t use the current wr corp  in a way to help them get open so why would you think a struggling wr is a good thing to pursue?  Allen isn’t playing his best either so it’s not like he is some wr whisperer currently. If they can’t bring in a seasoned vet who has proven he can produce the chances are that wr even reaching the field are slim based on past use of additions mid season by this team.  What has Allen brought out of Palmer? Be realistic. Beane is not about to admit he failed to address the wr corp appropriately, just ask Jeremy white!   Why expect any midseason addition will play some great role; when was the last time that happened as in their minds based on mcds pressers , the offense and defensive playbooks are very complicated and it takes a while to get up to speed.  That’s not how other teams work but it’s been proven that’s this coaching regimes historical pattern. This team needs help, not another problem to solve. Maybe they should prove they can fix Coleman before adding another underperforming head case !

  8.      They can’t make up for small lbs who can’t stay healthy and are now afraid to shoot gaps and hit and who suddenly even struggle in zone coverage.  We are the worst team in missing tackles.  They also can’t make up for white being done and unable to cover anyone as QBs target him. They can’t make up for Bedford suddenly playing like a 6 th round talent. They can’t make up for safety play that has been horrendous with Rapp not making any impact and bishop making horrible reads and being unable to tackle backs. The dl wasn’t the worst part of the d this year, it’s an injured small lb group , cb play who rarely get pbu’s , and safties that are just poor with communication and hitting.

Good teams , especially KC , will absolutely shred this d.  Who can’t see this coming ?  The ped guys also can’t run routes and can’t force the oc to quit putting players in boxes and utilize the best rb in the passing game. Mcd has finally gotten two yes men as coordinators who are only allowed to do what he  wants and unfortunately he is an offensive mind.  He is a defensive guru supposedly yet our d 9 years into his tenure is probably the worst it has ever been. Two avg free agents aren’t going to fix this mess.  Throw in beans poor drafting with d assets while ignoring weapons for Josh while smugly ridiculing critics and it’s a mess they deserve to be in.  The colts and pats are playing better and that’s the reality of not infusing new talent , but bringing back guys you already cut once for deteriorating play.

Mylo, the dog in my profile pic, passed away peacefully in his sleep last night after almost 1 year battling cancer.  He would be by my side for pretty much every game for the last 10 years and I don't know how Im going to be able to watch another game without him.

    Sorry for the Lamp post.

Really feel for you , it’s heartbreaking to lose your loyal companion and friend after building so many memories.   They are always giving unconditional love and they are so innocent that it just doesn’t seem fair when they get illnesses we can’t control or treat.  You are a better person for having him in your life those years and it’s just such a special bond that is understandable only by going thru it   Wishing you the best and it sounds like he was a great buddy.  Thanks for sharing. , as a fellow dog person I hope the pain eases with time.  I’m 68 and to this day remember each of the pets I had growing up and how much they meant to me at stages of my life.  Each one was special for their own unique reasons and that’s something that is priceless.  Best wishes.

I understand every team has flaws, there are maybe no powerhouses this year, certainly not in the AFC. What annoys me is that I think we could have been the powerhouse. I was not a fan of the team building strategy this offseason, at all. We spent almost all of our resources on McDermott's side of the ball and left the MVP with scraps. Surprise surprise, the defense looks the same as it did last year and a historically mistake-free offense is reverting to the mean. That was an easy outcome to predict and the people in charge didn't see it coming.

I still think we are just one legit outside WR away from being an offense that can steamroll teams. That to me was the best chance we had of being a powerhouse team. Score 35+ every single game. The goal this year is to be the #1 seed. Don't look now but the Colts have an easy peasy schedule the rest of the year while we have some tough opponents after the bye. They and the Lions look like the best teams in the NFL right now and it's not with dominant defense, it's with offenses that are steamrolling their opponents and running up the score. That's how you win a Super Bowl in the modern era. I'm worried that we blew it in the offseason and I have no reason to think McDermott and Beane are going to learn from their mistake.

They still have a chance to rectify it. If they trade for a CB at the deadline I'll know they haven't learned. They need to make a trade at the only position that will make a legit difference to the outcome of games. When Maye got out of the pocket tonight he had his guy working open. Diggs turned back the clock tonight. When Allen got out of the pocket he was holding holding holding the ball and nobody was separating. That is where the biggest room for improvement still exists on the roster and I really hope Beane can see it, his little WGR rant notwithstanding.

Great post. This team really makes me feel it’s a pig with lipstick unfortunately.  They have been in control in one game only and could easily be 2-3 just as easily as we have squeaked out being 4-1; nothing has looked easy as it’s never about good complimentary football like Mcd preaches.  The d , like Chris sims has stated may be the worst db room in football, is filled with flaws at every level and once again proved it can’t make stops when it really matters. Tonight it just was compounded by a lackluster offensive performance.

I watch most of the NFL games , and while we aren’t the Ravens debacle , we don’t play like a championship caliber team with championship TALENT; we win if things go our way and we are facing less talented coaching staffs or teams with QBs that are notably inferior. We are a team that rarely gets sacks , rarely makes quality pass break ups or plays by the dbs ( pats quality dbs broke up the critical pass to Shakir , our dbs get penalties or allow Diggs to toe tap the sidelines ) still struggles with the run , has always held on to players for too long who are injured and keeps going to the same well rather than tapping new talent resources.   We have spent so much capital on the defense with essentially no large change in results.  At the same time , despite having a once in a lifetime Qb , we go with this everybody eats strategy ( not seen or mimicked by any other franchises that I can see ) while getting it thrown back in our faces as an aging premier receiver demonstrated the flaws in that strategy.

This comes down to BEANES roster building strategy.  It’s been horrible in my opinion. Never giving Josh enough talent to throw too will be the legend of this era.  I agree with you ; the only hope to actually get a championship will come with getting more talent , especially a premier type talent to throw too and help carry the load. Josh holding onto the ball for so long and forcing a throw into double coverage is proof there is no consistently good wr to throw too. Worthy returned to Kcs lineup and the speed has helped KC  look like they are yet again in the mix. The problem for the bills tho is even if they trade for talent , like we’ve seen in the past , it takes forever for our coordinators to integrate a new player into the lineup.  I know you’re right about needing wr talent , but I just think it’s probably too late to make a difference THIS year.

Beane is responsible for this noticeable lack of talent. He and Mcd refuse to go outside of reaching back to their old Carolina past. He has kept the oft injured players to depend on as starters. He let the Bass issue linger until it forced his hand and while that worked out, the wr and db lack  of talent has not done well. Beane and Mcd have proven in over 8 years they can’t field a quality defensive product.  It’s the cause of the infamous 13 seconds and  other debacles. They actually felt after Hairston got hurt badly they could depend on white as a starter ( and don’t look now but our nickel db has looked sluggish and maybe facing decline as well ).  This is just a pattern now of poor roster creation by Beane and at this late date I think we will be the same  team as in the past. We will beat most teams , but won’t be good enough to get the coveted 1 seed they need for the playoffs.  The talent we do have can never stay healthy enough to all be on the field concurrently. I can’t keep believing in Beane. All these issues are similar to things that have happened before.  It’s Deja vu.  I will hope something changes as we get suspended guys back etc, but this teams season seems limited to me by the same old issues. Why this regime fails to try to surround Josh with more talent at the wr position is just baffling; we need a true wr playmaker. How many times do we have to watch this offense go into lapses , with no way to adjust on the fly as it’s limited by a lack of star power in the wr corp? We don’t have that now and haven’t with this regime who continues to pour everything into the d with the same disappointments recurring. Totally agree with your thoughts and analysis.

  11.      Such memories.  Dean Martin was from Steubenville, Ohio, which was the largest city close to my rural home of raylland Ohio. So I just said Steubenville when asked where I was from. Jimmy the Greek was also from Steubenville.  Steel  and coal mining  supported the area.  So Steubenville had one last claim to fame, it was once honored as the dirtiest, most polluted city in the USA!    I also had the honor of being born in the hillbilly city of wheeling wva, about 30 min from Pittsburgh pa;;thus known as the tri state area of Wheeling, Pittsburgh and Steubenville.

Most of my friends were steeler or browns fans.   My dad tho was a fan of Namath, and so one Sunday a jets game was on , they happened to be playing the Bills and my dad and I were into all sports and we always had fun playing basketball, baseball etc together.  So that day I saw the cool Buffalo on the helmets and for the first time I chose the Bills to cheer for over my dad’s jets w Namath , and have been a Bills fan only since the early 60’s.  I remember watching the dean martin roasts on tv back in those days.  They were hilarious with don rickles, Sammy Davis jr , foster brooks w his famous drunk act!   I’m 68 now, still a devout Bills fan , and I converted my dad to a bills fan before he passed in 2001, and took he and my mom with me to Atlanta for SB 28 to unfortunately see the last Bills SB appearance till now as they lost to Dallas that day despite leading at halftime   ( still vividly remember thurm fumbling after half and that flipped the game. You could sense the Bills thinking , oh no here we go again. Ran into biscuit at the ATL airport that night after the game as we were at the same airline terminal. I was behind him and he was irate as he was being told he might be bumped from his flight to Hawaii as he was telling them he was going to the pro bowl and couldn’t miss this flight.  I had bills gear on but I was too afraid to say anything as he was telling  the airline people , don’t you know who I am, I just lost the damn Super Bowl and now you’re f ing with my flight!  I just  stayed quiet despite wanting to meet him and thank him for those great years.  Unbelievable but absolutely true story)

THANKS for posting this , I’ve seen it before but it still gives me chills and is a huge reminder of my past as a child and what now seems as a whole different era or other  world where sports  and family were so vital to having a happy life.  Orson was such a great actor and voice in those times. Go Bills !

I thought we extended him? Is he on the roster?

ROI on COOK  has certainly been more valuable so far. He is what he is by now.  Fits Beanes great talent evaluator ability regarding the dl position. At least he’s better than boogie I guess or Von for example. Great guy , but as others suggested , maybe calling him moot or root might be more appropriate   Maybe he will show up on the all 22 , so the experts  can explain how you lack understanding ( sarcasm) of his stardom. 😂

  13.    This is typical Mcd / Beane management of this roster. You have a kicker coming off a shaky season , has an injury for a prolonged period of time ( when you easily could have looked late in the draft or worked out several prior to the last 2 weeks before the season ) , yet you GO WITH A OLD VET LIKE YOU ALWAYS CHOOSE to do, even tho your vet strategy has led to 0 SB appearances.  Now this guy is expected to do all you want with ball placement on kickoffs etc, plus be expected to handle stadium winds etc, when you have expectations of getting home field advantage for a SB run. Guy was obviously NOT  on a roster for some reason, or was he just waiting for the right club , right deal ( sarcasm please) ?

When you had to limit his fg length attempt in a preseason  game , isn’t that enough to know it’s time to have a FIRM plan b?    Guess not with this staff.   Bass wasn’t progressing fully, missed a short fg  attempt , yet let’s wait even more?  Medically it’s idiotic. Probably needs surgical treatment , it’s ok to wait some time , but delaying like this without deciding just doesn’t make  sense. If it’s not amenable to surgery , then not having explored other options is just inexcusable as this might never resolve without full rest for a prolonged time.

Everyone knows some games will come down to a fg , and this has effects managing the game as I’m betting this guy isn’t a sure thing over 50, like many young kickers have become. I just think with the odd preseason already ( many injuries , suspensions, adding players w known injury issues, bringing in several old players to help “ watch film , and help in the rooms” , ) , this just doesn’t have the feel of a true SB bound organization, it feels chaotic outside of the given stability and talent of Allen. I’m just comparing these moves to organizations like the chiefs or eagles, and it just feels like it’s hoping things will come together rather than good decision making. Small things separate success from being a franchise with 0 SB WINS in their history. This just feels BILLSY again to me having followed them since ‘63. Hey, always waiting to be wrong , but I am honestly having more doubts about Mcd / Beane. Great talkers , great under performers.  ( I don’t see the bills getting 3 from 59 as the clock runs out , do you?Chiefs just showing how they are detail oriented)

What the hell is that crap???

Enough already. I’ll just hope this was a joke, because it’s not a Buffalo Bills uniform.

Kinda looks like they got left over unis from DETROIT at some point,  slapped a Buffalo over the lion on the helmet, and looks like a silver Christmas tree ornament. It might look great in person,  I just think some trace of red/ blue somewhere are needed or it  really does look Detroit ready.   Definitely crisp, clean, but it needs some touch of blue/ red.  Wouldn’t mind having a jersey regardless. 😊

This season was already shaping up as a "Voyage of the Damned" for the Dolphins and now this...

Yet the jags have a kid who went 6/6 over 50 yards with a long of 70 this preseason!   He just hit another 59 yarder splitting the uprights at least halfway up into the net.  Why we are hanging onto a guy who had confidence issues and missed time with an inflamed symphysis pubis or “ pelvic injury”  is beyond me when there are kickers out there to find in this era where kids grew up playing soccer.
So I don’t worry about the fins finding one. Heck they make get the guy the bills just released who looked less shaky than Bass.  Man , would love to have the jags kicker , Little I believe is his name , as this guy hit 70 yards at sea level in very humid air; he is going to win them a game or two whereas we pray Bass won’t lose another for us.  It’s these little things. , no pun intended, that keep Mcd/ Beane at 0 sb appearances despite having the best unicorn qb in modern football history.

Honestly surprising. I kind of assumed the rumors of him being done with Football were true and that's why he was still at home.

I guess the prospect of skipping out on Training Camp and returning to a familiar place was enough to lure him back for another go.

I think his true desire to play football , true speed , may be done with.  BUT many guys prove their desire for money really never slows down, and it’s a time where a vet can play a few snaps a game, or suddenly complain of calf pain or some other subjective injury and grab another couple mil.   Don’t know the guy , but I think he could have been more available last year (. Wrist pain also is a subjective, unmeasurable thing.  Fractures, ligament tears , kidney stones , even concussions are more easily proven and measured with historical proof of recovery timetables).   Just saying I agree, would not expect much; might do a few plays to hang on , but I bet it’s Buffalo 2 as the big picture.

If he got an MRI and they haven't figured out a prognosis yet, my GUESS is a partial ACL tear (grade 1 or 2 sprain). It can be very difficult to judge the severity of them from an MRI, and sometimes you have to wait for the swelling to go down to do more mechanical-type testing. MCL and LCL injuries are typically more definitive right away. I guess it could also be a PCL, but those are rare. Whatever, I just hope it's not bad.

I don’t know of anyone in my 40 years of medicine that referred  to the knee as “ lower leg”.  It’s the joint between upper and lower leg. it is referred to as the knee.  Not saying they couldn’t get an mri to check a knee but it’s not lower leg unless perhaps they are being deceptive. However, you can need an MRI to evaluate for occult fx, interosseous membrane injury  of lower leg( high ankle injury) , formal ankle mortise for Talar injury , but more likely e v a l of formal ankle ligaments both medially and laterally.   If he has an acl or pcl injury, that’s the knee ,not lower leg. It’s obvious it’s complicated his return. And they are not divulging his actual diagnosis to not appear desperate when trying to add by trade or FA markets,or cuts to their cb depth so Beane still has leverage imo.  I think it’s a variant of high ankle given the lack of timetable , possible ir. Just guessing tho. Why else be so quiet about it, well high ankle really vary in recovery time. Best wishes. Will eventually find out why they refused to give any info.

They must be out on Moore,  I'd take him asap, great blocker and he'll be WR 4 or 5 , a role he excelled in

Yet Davis was not available much in his time in Jax and he still dropped catches he should have made.  This , imo , would be a failure on multiple levels  Should he have be resigned in the first place if you’re willing to bring him back , tho prob a cheaper price?  Given all the issues with receivers , and bad contracts Beane has done with WRs , should he perhaps apologize to the radio personalities and fans he got snippy with who were critical of him not drafting any wr other than a 7 th rounder who is already not making the team?  This is another example of Beane failing to provide Allen w adequate support, and being arrogant about his wr corp while they frankly have underperformed.

We were the only team shut out last week and it’s obvious our wr corp keeps faling to make plays.  Just compare Allen’s support wr corp to what Burrows has in Cincinnati; it’s startling!  We are so desperate now to consider bringing in Davis , known for critical drops and unavailability? That’s a joke Beane is totally responsible for. Compare our preseason to watching teams like the bengals and Washington, or even Chicago.  It’s the quality of individual performances by Bills players that’s is just frankly poor quality to the eye test , below the quality of other teams backups. Again , our o was THE ONLY TEAM SHUT OUT THIS WEEK. Even tho the score or w/ l means nothing , there is a bigger picture of or wr corp dropping balls , unavailability with multiple guys , and lack of playmaking. Backups on every other team at least allowed their offenses to score. I know our starters should be adequate , but there is no promise year to year. Every year we have stretches of WRs unavailable to injury , so backups matter.

I can’t believe they want to look at Davis but not utilize a guy with potential like shavers who has been consistent this year. If they sign davis rather than roster shavers , this would be the first time I would begin to lose faith in McD and Beane ,,repeating the same things that they failed to reach the sb in the past.   Beans signings like Samuel’s , Moore just look lackluster  ; hollins proved to be a good addition but they let him end up in New England.   Scores in preseason may mean nothing , but you can judge the talent of backups compared to other teams backups. We have looked fundamentally bad and imo , we have played some of the worst football of all teams in the two games so far.
It’s fair to have opinions on the quality of the backup players , given this teams injury history come playoff time, given this is supposedly a SB competing roster. Revising Davis is a failure of beanes process , including not addressing that position earlier in the draft.  We were the ONLY TEAM shutout , so it’s fair to say there is honest room for concern and so far we have no proof the o will continue to be productive. They better be as this d has shown no solutions to last years 3 rd down or long yardage d failures.  Thats not overreacting, it reacting to the talent level observed in actual competition.

THE STARTERS are great. Yet they are never available 100% of the time , excluding Allen. The entire roster matters. The ravens will be a big challenge as will a 17 game schedule. We need to get the one seed.  I’m not sure I feel confident this roster as it is now looking will have enough talent. Mcd 7 playoff wins , Allen 6 playoff wins , both with no SB  appearances. The process may not be ultimately working.

Babich probably pretty pleased about that.

Jags reddit for some light reading https://www.reddit.com/r/Jaguars/s/ikoPjjM4Ip

Wow , that is some terrible , and yet familiar, reading on there.  It just makes you wonder why Mcd brings in a guy his own team shredded.  Thus coaching staff and Beane will be responsible if they fail to get a Lombardi w Josh.  All the wasted picks , FA moves on this d which has been atrocious and this teams Achilles heel , just makes me feel ill.  Look at all the HOF talent polian and the 90’s teams had that propelled them to 4 superbowls ( where frankly the players just failed to play up to their talent level) , and now with possibly the most gifted qb in nfl history they barely get any pro bowl nominations, yet alone any HOF talent outside of Josh.  It’s Dan marinos story happening again , just like Shula failing to put talent around him.

Mcd is a great coach for this team. I can’t envision anyone else leading them. But I can’t forgive the blown games , 13 seconds , hail murray, etc and a defense we all expect to fail on third downs and also rarely get pressure with just our front four. It’s maddening , and then he goes and brings in a guy, like this from a terrible Jax franchise , and he’s had to replace two o coordinators and one d coordinator ( 2 if you count replacing himself with Babich) previously. Listen to players who’ve won titles and they all give credit to the coaches for getting them over the final hump to bring home the Lombardi.

Beanes biggest failures have been all the failed assets devoted to the d line ,and his persistence in failing to draft or bring in adequate receiving talent around Josh. The other thing winning sb players say is your best players also have to play their best to win. We see our roster filled with guys who drop balls or come up short at playoff moments. It just seems talent selection outside Josh , now possibly cook as well , never compares to the roster depth and talent we see on teams like the chiefs and eagles.
Watching our talent in the giants game , it’s hard to feel confident this d still won’t have holes at safety and picks like Jackson ( rooting for the guy with being dealt a terrible form of alopecia yet managed to be a great guy and land a beautiful wife!) just seem to be like more of the same things like AJ OR BOOGIE BASHAM , at a time we are primed to make another run.   So why do we repeat these types of mediocre moves and bring in a guy from Jax who performed terribly even against us ,while our own d coordinator had a mediocre year already?  Didn’t we see this on our oc before with Dorsey?  It just makes me SMH; as Mcd preaches a playoff standard yet he so far seems incapable of championship caliber decision making.   Watched the ravens preseason game , and honestly , I’m expecting them to out physical  this d and run all over this front early , esp with ped guys out , and once again Mcd will fail to grab that important one seed. Just more questionable decisions that won’t fix the sack issues or 3 rd down woes. Doesn’t seem like we brought in championship , or even playoff caliber coaching additions.  Maybe Mcd doesn’t believe in the philosophy of surrounding yourself with people even better than you are if you want to continue advancing. Thanks for the link, some pretty amazing statements there !

    Outside too

And at sea level in high humidity!  It’s been close to 100 degrees every day here for the past week with AccuWeather stating it feels like 112 !  Been living here since 1985 and can’t recall a string of hot weather persisting this long.  It doesn’t even cool much at night ; just been miserably hot outside and it feels suffocating with the high humidity. That was an amazing  kick; imagine if he hit that in Denver !  Was cool to watch it happen , even if on tv!

Hunter made his two way debut.  He had 2 receptions for 2 yards , and missed a tackle on a Rb as he came up and slipped , and the Rb ran for a first down.   Lawrence was the qb as well, who I think will need to move to a different franchise to be successful.  Time will tell, but giving up all that draft capital for anything other than a franchise qb seems foolish.  Typical jags stuff under owner Kahn.

  21.       Just a FYI while topic is kicking.  Did you guys see that the jags fg kicker hit a fg from 70 yards last night right as the first half was ending !?  Yep, 70 yards with a little to spare.  The team and broadcasters were all pretty excited and the young kicker was mobbed.  It was pretty cool to see , but obviously won’t count as the record since it was preseason.  But it was hot , heavy humidity ( past week it has been close to 100 degrees daily with it feeling like it’s 112 according to AccuWeather.  I’ve lived here since 1985 and have never experienced this type of prolonged heatwave ).  So the kick was at sea level , not much wind, heavy humidity, and was just a perfect kick.  Very cool to at least see it happen.  Wil be interesting to see how his season goes

In another quick topic, Hunter made his debut as a two way player.  He had 2 receptions for two yards on a couple of quick slants; on d he came up quickly on a run play , slipped going for the tackle and missed  as the rb ran for a first down.  That was his total contribution for the night.   This franchise has just been abysmal under Kahn and giving up all the picks they did for Hunter just seems like another crazy move to me that this owner has become known for. Time will tell, Hunter may have some success , but this isn’t Colorado , it’s the NFL , and IMO , only a franchise qb is worth that much draft capital. Lawerence still looks like a miss here as he’s mostly focused on flipping his hair rather than being consistently accurate.  The new gm looks like a teenager and I bet Lawrence will eventually succeed in a new location.

Sure would be nice to have a kicker hitting from 70 rather than seeing if your RB can hit an xp!   😂
