We have an unreal opportunity before us.

Recommended Posts

While it might be a longshot there is a chance that we will have the opportunity to trade down if a player like Sanchez falls or someone wants to reach of a guy like Oher.

With this team in need of critical upgrades at the following positions I really hope we take a team up on an offer to trade down if one arises:

TE........We have next to nothing at this position.

OT........While some may be in a panic about OT I think we'll be very surprised at the play of Walker and Byrd/Chambers.

G or C..It looks like we have signed two serviceable C's so I think G is a much more critical need than C at this point.

DE.......While Schoebel may return to form I think its safe to say that both Kelsay and Denney forms are awful.

LB........SLB in my opinion is a huge need for us.

With two picks in the first round and a draft deep at TE, LB, DE and C if we could somehow luck out and trade down with Detroit for their second first rounder and that top of the second round pick we could very well fill three of the four with immediate starters who could actually be productive for this team.

That said we have a number of other positions on this team that not are not exactly of critical need to upgrade but we aren't exactly set at the position either.

In my opinion those positions are:

DT.......Williams is doing the best he can with very little, McCargo does very little, and Johnson isn't an every down DT.

C or G..We're likely to be starting a player who should be providing depth at one of these positions.

DE........I'm not saying Schoebel won't return to form I'm just saying it's not as likely as it is that he won't.

SS.......With Donte moving to FS it might be a good idea to use an early pick but likely a mid-round pick on SS.

You've probably noticed that I didn't list OT as a critical need for this team and wonder why. Its only because I believe Walker can't be any worse than Peters was this past season and that the coaching staff seems to feel it might have another OT lighting in the bottle player with Bell.

If we are so lucky to trade down and get Detroit's 20th and their 33rd (1st pick of the second round) we could walk away with the no. 1 TE on the board in Brandon Pettigrew and the no. 1 C/G on the board in Alex Mack or Max Unger we could still end up with a starter at LB or DT with a second round pick.

In short if we stand pat we could easily end up with two starters out of this draft with OT being one of them but with so many holes we might be better served with increasing the odds that we could end up with three or possibly four starters.

I'd love a draft that began with:

20th - TE Brandon Pettigrew (OSU)

28th - RT Eben Britton (AZ)

33rd - C/G Alex Mack/Max Unger (Cal/OR)

42nd - OLB Marcus Freeman (OSU)

85th - Rick Jean-Francois (LSU)

This is just dumb. What do you expect the coaching staff to say? "Yea, it's true. We are so fuct now its unbelievable."? Good effing grief man. And I hate to break it to you, but Jason Peters for one did not give up as many sacks as you puppets keep trying to insinuate...in the NFL they actually have BLOCKING SCHEMES and defensive stunts so you cannot just count of the number of times the guy across from him got a sack. At one point I would have thought that no fan could be stupid enough not to realize this, but after following this board this off-season I no longer underestimate common stupidity, especially amongst Buffalo Bills fans. Secondly, the Bills knew Jason Peters was so good they could let him block and never worry about giving him any help. No other team in the league does this every play like the Bills do, because no other team in the league has a tackle who can pull it off. But then again, you anti-peters idiots are too stupid to realize any of this so i don't know why i even bother. Just stop trying to pretend you can replace him with Langston Walker and I won't have to call you names any more.

Well thought-out post, but I totally disagree with one of your premises, that Walker will ever be anything but a stopgap at LT. IMHO, if Oher or Smith are still there at #11, we'll be on him like army ants on a crippled capibura. And I don't even like either guy all that much. If all four LTs are gone, I agree that we might well try to trade back.

I guess I'm not looking at having Walker be the answer at LT as much as just being the bridge to the answer.

Just to clarify I'm not an anti-Peters anything. I just think the guy was not the premiere LT that people like yourself have made him out to be.

As far as telling me not voice or share an opinion on a message board that exists for doing just that or else you'll call me names that's pretty funny.

I see Walker's tenure at LT to be a one year emergency stint.

I also see Smith and Oher as very likely to be busts. One cant even stay in shape and the others middle name is inconsistent. Both are huge red flags for me.

Great post. Well thought out, and I agree that if we were able to get to around the #20 pick in the draft, we'd be able to get Pettigrew at a position with really good value. That is why the trade for Peters, which only netted us the #28 pick in the 1st instead of the #21, will loom large, IMHO.

I disagree that the Bills will not pursue the possibility of filling the void on the left side of the line vacated by the Peters trade, and feel that they made the decision based on the talent of OT available in this draft.

I, personally, really think that the best OT in this class is Andre Smith, despite his odd behavior at the combine. If he is there, I think you have to take him at #11.

Another possibility that needs to be discussed is the fact that the Bills may use some of their draft picks to fill holes via trade (ie Scheffler).
