No even close.  Klein was known to be better against the run.  Lorenzo was less stout at the run but far better in pass coverage plus he could get to the QB plus he was a fantastic leader plus he was a special teams star.

Well, I'm not familiar with Klein's work prior to Buffalo.  But as the strong-side LB, part of 'Zo's job description was to set the edge against the run.  'Zo also rushed the passer.

I thought his pass coverage skills were kind of a liability last year, myself.

Mark Gaughn described what the Bills needed to fill part of 'Zo's shoes thusly:

"The primary Alexander role the Bills need to fill is that of a strong-side linebacker who can set the edge against the run when the Bills need to play their base 4-3 defense."

That is what I was talking about - in Klein, I believe we thought we were getting a LB who could set the edge and put some pressure on the QB.  Klein had a respectable number of TFL and QB hits in his 2 years with NO.  He was on the field 65-70% of the snaps which is more than you'd expect for a run D specialist.

Actually that article makes me sad because he discusses some possible candidates to replace part of what 'Zo did, and Klein was surely not on the list.
