Turning it Around - Looking Back at the 2010 NFC West

In 2010 the NFC West was a historically bad conference. An absolute laughingstock.

A 7-9 record won the division and people were clamoring to change the playoff eligibility and wild card rules.

A couple seasons later, the Seahawks and the 49ers are two of the elite teams in the NFL, and loaded with young talent and poised to dominate for years to come.

It seems so easy for other franchises to turn it around. It doesn't seem like it has to be a long process, either.

HOW CAN THE BILLS BE SO BAD FOR SO LONG WITH NO CHANGE? It boggles the mind.

Hopefully in a couple years Doug Marrone and Geno Smith will be the new Harbaugh/Kaepernick or Carroll/Wilson.

Probably not, and I get that, but AT LEAST THERE'S A CHANCE!

Seattle had 2 stud RB's in lLnch and Turbin, 2 very good wideouts in Tate and Rice.. They got Zac Miller, a very underrated TE from OAK, and a phenom rookie QB who refuses to live down to naysayers expectations.

Add to that a potent D-line and an oppressive secondary.

So let's recap... They can run with power, throw with confidence, and catch reliably. All while preventing their opponents from doing the same. -The question is WHY can they do that? The answer is simple.

They chose well.

Doubters will attribute SEA's success to luck, calling the teambuilding process a "crapshoot", but nothing could be further from the truth.

To those who know what attributes to look for, the process of choosing players is a science. -However, it isn't ROCKET science.

You cannot just draft talent at key positions, you have to draft leadership at those positions too... Pete Carroll didn't just think Wilson had a 'nice arm'... He saw a leader. Someone who was going to walk the walk on every down. He looked at his control of huddles in college and saw a personality that men would follow.

SEA also deliberately sought out talent that could be weaponized easily. -A reciever with attitude... A VIOLENT running threat... A HATER in the secondary... and a FEARLESS personality to bring the whole thing together.

Buddy just doesn't get it. His criteria for talent has to change in order for us to have any playoff hopes in the near future. We don't need any more "bargain basement finds". We need IMPACT players, pronto. -Not cheap fixes. Do your Job, Buddy!, and if you can't, JUST COPY THE SEAHAWKS.
