Bruce did not make Top 10 ESPN players

Recommended Posts

ESPN currently has a feature "Rank 'Em: Greatest NFL Players Ever" and their contributors ranked the best 10 players in NFL history. Reggie White made it but not Bruce. Bruce and OJ Simpson were the Bills in the top 30 players to choose from of all time.

Bruce was no doubt dissed for hanging on to beat the sack record.

I think that bruce was better than reggie for sure, as reggie as went up against weaker right tackles. Also, everybody forgets that only O.J. and Barry Sanders have ran for 2000+ yards in any 14 game span in one season, but then again everybody seems to overlook O.J.'splaying days as a byproduct of his wife getting murdered

Reggie often played on the other side of the line, vs RTs who are generally weaker than LTs

Reggie was surrounded by better talent on the DLine than Bruce was throughout most of their careers. It was easy to double and triple team Bruce, whereas you had to account for the other DLinemen when facing Reggie

Reggied played in a 43 most of his career, which keys the pass rush from DEs. Bruce played most of his career in a 34, which keys the pass rush from LBs

Reggie was never a great run stuffer. Bruce was inadequate early on, but developed into a force against the run
