  1. The best coaches are students of the game, and they're film rats. The fact that Belichik talks to other coaches should be a no brainer. As much as you hate the guy, you gotta love his passion for the game. I'm jealous we don't have a guy that is this motivated.

I remember when Gruden won the Superbowl with Tampa Bay, people would talk about the fact that he never slept at night. He would constantly be making adjustments, watching film, and picking apart each opponent. He lived, drank, and breathed football all day, every day.

The recently hired coach of the Lions, Jim Schwartz, is another student of the game. Has a reputation for locking himself in the film room and specifically designing defensive schemes to destroy opposing offenses. Tireless worker. Now, he hasn't accomplished anything yet with the Lions, but it is really promising to know you have a guy like that coming in to help your team win.

I just never hear anything from Dick Jauron that makes me want to get behind him. He sounds as if he has a knowledge of the game, he's a loyal guy, and seems to care about the teams he coaches quite a bit. But I don't see the desire that I see in other winning coaches. I don't see a guy that communicates with other coaches around this league or college ball. I don't see a guy that makes weekly adjustments or in-game adjustments that take advantage of opponents weaknesses.

I think we've got a really talented group of players. Now we just need someone to lead them to the promise land.

  2. No, he's correct.

I no longer know if these guys (coordinators) are idiots or not. I thought Mularkey was an imbecile, and now he's flying high in atlanta. And I was convinced Gilbride was a rocks for brains, and he since won a Super Bowl.

You guys are right, he did leave. But I'm sure Jauron was ready to let him go to save himself.

I personally loved Mularkey when he was here. We might have ended up a completely different team had he stayed around.

But, until Russ can take then entire staff out and start fresh, we won't be headed in the right direction. The players are good. We just need the right staff to guide them.

  3. Everyone was excited about bringing in a new guy, and apparently Turk Schonert just couldn't wait to unleash this amazing passing attack we supposedly were going to have. The west coast offense was going to thrive and we were going to make the playoffs. Blah blah blah.

But... Jauron is still at the helm.

Once again, until Russ Brandon gets to make his own moves without Wilson and Jauron making decisions... this team will not move forward. A true GM gets to bring in his own staff and make his own personnel moves.

I still like the players we've got on the field, but I just can't believe that this staff will carry us to the promise land.

  4. Another completely overblown media story. He had a drink, just as every American has the right to do. And it was in an AIRPORT, not some shady club.

The thing that concerns me about the situation is that Vick was drinking a Greyhound. Come on Michael, that's a little feminine isn't it? What has prison done to this guy?!

  5. So, apparently King thinks the Ravens practice was more intense than the Bills and Redskins. Not surprising actually. Part of that is on our coach for not setting the tone, and part of that is on the players for not bringing that intensity that winners need to bring everyday on the field.

That is one piece of this team that I wish we had. The "do or die" mentality. It would be nice if each Bills player was playing like their job was on the line everyday, and that there are consequences for not performing out there.

I still need to see Jauron win to believe he can do it.

  6. I had a feeling the Bills would make his list..

You gotta wear the goggles sometimes. I really do believe in the group we've got.

Jets: lost Favre, Coles, Elam and didn't find very good replacements for Coles or Elam. Sanchez is a rookie, and I see him struggling for a while. New coach, new system... not looking great for them.

Miami: caught some teams off guard with the wildcat hoopla last season, and got a great contribution out of Pennington. Teams are planning for this offense now, and Pennington knows he's on his way out the door. For some reason, I see them struggling this year.

Pats: they're going to be good. I think we are good enough now to split the 2 games we play this season though.

  7. Detroit Lions - they've added some really solid players to this team. Starting on defense, they VASTLY improved their secondary adding Phillip Buchanon, Anthony Henry, and Luis Delmas who all have big play potential. The linebacking core will be VERY solid with the additions of Julian Peterson and Larry Foote to play alongside Sims, and not to mention a solid player in Jordan Dizon coming off of an injury. Their d-line is a bit suspect, but they have some young up and coming guys in Fluellen - DT, Avril - DE, and Sammie Lee Hill - DT to play with their solid DE DeWayne White.

Then take a look at their offense: they added some very good receiving threats in Pettigrew, Curry (underrated), B. Johnson, and Derrick Williams out of Penn State. They got the big armed QB they were looking for, and don't need to ask too much out of him (he actually reminds me a lot of Kerry Collins in Tennessee, ironically). Their o-line is becoming more solid each year, and should be able to protect Stafford/Culpepper much better this year.

I like this teams chances. Prediction: 9-7.

Cincinnati Bengals - Carson is back, and he's got some serious receiving threats in Johnson, Coles, Henry, and now a solid TE in Coffman out of Mizzou. The o-line is improved with the additions of A. Smith and Luigs. The only question mark is their RB crew. Benson is a decent option, but they need more depth. I could see them adding someone like E. James or T. Jones.

The defense has seen just as big of an improvement. They added Maualuga into a LB mix that gets Rivers back from an injury. They stole Michael Johnson in the 3rd round of the draft, and they can now rotate him with Odom, Geathers, and Rucker. The middle should be solid with Sims and the addition of Tank Johnson. Their secondary is pretty darn good too with Hall and Joseph on the corners, and a decent pair of safeties also (addition of R. Williams helps alongside Ndukwe).

    They'll improve their 4-11 record to 10-6.

THE BUFFALO BILLS - I don't need to fill out this description. Prediction: 12-4.

Three teams that many NFL fans associate with losing will break out next season. I have a hunch.

Other notable teams: Texans, Raiders, Packers, and Seahawks.

  8. 1. Leadership: something this team lacks

    2. Drive & Intensity: we've got some talented players, but not many that want to rip another guys head off out there and scream after.

    3. Intelligence: football & academic intelligence allow players to learn and consistently get better on the field

The guys I would want based on these 3 categories:

#11 - Peria Jerry, DT - nasty player, hits hard, is constantly motivated, and carried that defense on his shoulders when Patrick Willis left town. (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2009/profiles/peria-jerry?id=79585)

#28 - James Laurinaitis / Clay Matthews / Brian Cushing, LB - whichever is available would be a huge upgrade for us. Each one of these guys works extremely hard on and off the field, hits like a ton of bricks, and can bring energy to a defense that is lacking.

#42 - Jamon Meredith, OT - most underrated OT in the draft. Intelligent, athletic, packs a big punch, and leads by example. (http://www.draftcountdown.com/scoutingrepo...on-Meredith.php)

** #75 - Tony Gonzalez, TE - trade for him. Nuff said **

    #110 - Phillip Hunt, DE

    #121 - Kraig Urbik, OG

** Sign Roy Williams, SS. **

  9. This is why, if Dick Jauron was smart, he would tell TO to opt out of answering too many media questions. Hide TO away or else the media will find a way to generate some sort of controversy. Pull a Marshawn media ban, or just say "no comment". It's not just ESPN who is after Owens, it's PFT, Yahoo Sports, and anyone who can get their hands on "new material".
