1270 used to be WHLD, licensed to Niagara Falls. It was all-brokered radio, meaning it was shows that people bought time on WHLD to run. Mostly religious and foreign language stuff. I can understand why this will be like a brand new radio station to most folks.
Okay coverage during the day. (see purple line) Not so good at night. (see red line)
I really believe a solid sports competitor could beat WGR, but it takes a lot of money to be "solid." Running CBS network is not going to put a dent into WGR. It's curious they are going live 12-3 instead of AM or PM drive. Maybe they feel like it would be easier to establish a beachhead being local while WGR is on network. Expect WGR to go live 12-3 soon. Cal Capaccio perhaps?
PTR
Hope your right. WGR needs to go live from 12-3 and stop this Rome BULL. With Hockey back on, the Hockey hotline can finally have something to talk about from 10-12. People want and like listening to LOCAL sports news and like talking Bills, Sabres... We dont have Empire or any local stuff on TV. WGR will stay #1 no matter what.
Rome will still be on WGR 12-3, but this will give a local option from 6a to 9pm now. 6a to 12p on WGR, 12-3 on The Fan, 3 to 9 on WGR
Its going to be hard for alot of people to listen without a APP. lots of smartphones and alot of people listen to these stations from their smartphones. I wanted to be the one to listen starting tomorrow, but i guess i have no way to listen.

CBS Sports radio is building their own network of affiliates. Rome signed on last year with CBS and The Fan 1270 is one of those affiliates.
WGR loses Rome from 12-3 and will need new programming.
But isnt that opposite of what is going on here. 1270 is losing Rome and thats why they are doing their own local show and WGR will continue to cover Rome from 12-3?
No info on App, but I would guess probably not as it is a new station, here is the website though.
Website i dont think will do much help. I dont even see a listen live on that site.. So now what?
-
iphone app?
-
Then when Rome moves over to the new station - you can go back to listening to GR all day.
?? Come again.. explain that
-
is that 1270AM in WNY radio? Also.. do you have any info on if we can get a App for this that i can download onto my iphone?
I work and listen to my radio and listen to WGR all day and HATE listening to Rome, so i turn my radio off from 12-3.

I wanted Lovie as well, but two points that make me think about this hire are an article from Don Banks about Andy Reid: http://sportsillustr...reid/index.html
History isn't on Lovie's side either. I still wanted him, but it's an interesting point.
The other point made was that a lot of 'hot' college coaches come from big time programs that get better players than their competition. Kelly, for example, get big time players and Oregon was no slouch before he got there. Marrone took crap and had some success.
Some great points and also remember.. He HAS NFL experience. I wanted Lovie, because of him being a D-man kind of guy but am now ok with this. BUT we have no idea who his OC and DC are going to be just yet.

Im talking myself into this now.. I like this and like the fresh face and we just need to see who will be the OC and DC coaches.
-
Hopefully he does become DC here..

@AdamSchefter: So Cleveland is restarting its HC search while Chip Kelly must decide whether to go to Philadelphia or remain at Oregon.
Looks like chip is playing around n wants full control and even change rosters n etc. kind of the whole point of taking charge but he might be asking for to much.
@JasonLaCanfora: Hearing issues of roster control/overall power were always major issues to resolve in pursuit of Chip Kelly. We'll see if/when he leaves
-
Lovies name isn't coming up in any other of the other spots, so he might end up a DC.

Does this mean the Bills are going in a different direction than Smith?
This means he is Lovies agent and can't give away any info.
-
Ummm.. What does this say about all the Bills talk that Lovies son is doing?
Also... Did you guys know that his son Mathew is also the Agent of his father Lovie? UMMM!
@NickBarnett: As far as coaching search I am a fan of all the candidates.. Def like Lovie Smith..

So has anyone other than Ian rapport (sp?) reported this? If it were truly that much of a done deal I would think other networks would be reporting it as well.
Its all over NFLnetwork

Why is it Browns consistently get higher profile coaches and GMs than us?

http://wgr550.com/Report--Chip-Kelly-Close-to-Deal-with-Browns/15193968
Ian Rapoport from NFL.com and NFL Network is reporting that Oregon coach Chip Kelly is close to a deal with the Cleveland Browns to make the jump to the NFL and become the coach in Cleveland. Rapoport cites a source close to Kelly's situation.
The Bills were reportedly in line to interview Kelly for their opening at coach.
