  1. I'm trying to think about the best way to utilize him in our offensive system. Wide reciever screens? Can you run a draw play/wide reciver reverse? If we put him at tailback would it be too obvious that the draw or screen is going to him? Will he block on field goal attempts? Can he make tackles on punt team? I really just don't see it. Steve fairchild and turk schonert have spent years getting our young players comfortable with the draw/screen punt/fg offense. Now you bring in a guy who has made his living catching passes down field and scoring touchdowns. It's just not a good fit. If the bills want to utilize T.O. they will have to implement an entirely new offensive system, one that includes downfield passes and touchdowns. We all know that having to learn a new offensive system every year is the one and only thing that has kept J.P. Losman from a hall of fame career . So why do we want to do the same thing to Edwards? I really dont like this signing.

  2. I just watched his interview on NFL network. He said he wanted T.O. because he's a relentless competitor and a hard worker and that's the type of attitude this team needs right now. Eisen asked him a question about how T.O. eats up young quarterbacks and Edwards said something about how he wants to make the playoffs and go to the superbowl, then he said "I guess I didn't really answer your question at all, sorry about that" it was pretty funny. He also said he was at the playoff game in S.F. when T.O. caught that touchdown against the packers, interesting little tidbit.

  3. The Bills signed Terrell Owens because...

    1. They needed someone to "market" to their fans...

2...TO SELL TICKETS...because they were destined for a HUGE decline in ticket sales...

3...as they have no one on the roster who creates any hope or excitement that the 2009 season was going to be anything different than the last 8 seasons...

4...a desperation move to create the perception that this is the piece of the puzzle they need to lift them to the next level...ie. make the playoffs.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shu...urn=nfl,146492

It is a bad fit because Dick Jauron...like Wade Phillips...is not a strong enough personality to keep Owens under control.

A few early season losses will soon create a sour taste in Owens' mouth and then...watch out!!!! :flirt:

The Bills have a very tough 2009 schedule...Owens alone is not enough to get the Bills into the playoffs.

Home: Miami, New England, NY Jets, Houston, Indianapolis, Cleveland, New Orleans, Tampa Bay

Away: Miami, New England, NY Jets, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Kansas City, Atlanta, Carolina

If you see the Bills winning 10 games against these opponents, which 10 are they??

Are the bills really at jacksonville for a 3rd consecutive season? Shouldn't they have to come up to buffalo every once in a while? I didn't read the rest of your post but I assume that's what you're mad about. And I for one completely agree, this is an outrage.

  4. Dean - T.O. has had numbers but you also have to question at what expense. He has demanded the ball and the attention of the offensive coordinator. The Cowgirls played this out with him for a while but it did not lead to victories. Also, go back and read the Ross Tucker article and post recently up on the board.

    Ross Tucker

In the article Ross clrearly said a prima donna can set your team back. Why do you think the cowgirls let T.O. walk and why were so many other teams refusing to bring him in? For exactly this reason. TO at his best is a heck of a WR at his worst he is cancer and a crybaby. Which version will play in Buffalo? We can only hope it is the productive T.O.

Also for those that believe T.O. is a leader, where does his history suggest that he has been? The guy has been productive at times. In no way is he a leader like Thurman Thomas was. Thurman demanded 100% from his teammates but then gave 120% of himself on the field. T.O. has had the history of demanding 120% of the teams focus be on him and then his play will range from 80% effort to 100% effort.

This could be a huge signing for Buffalo or it might just be a colossal flop. Time will tell.

I think you missed the point of the tucker article. Tucker was saying that when you give a guy a ton of guaranteed money and a long term contract he can do whatever he wants because the team knows to cut him they'll have to take a huge financial hit. This is not at all the case with the bills and owens, in fact it's quite the opposite. If the bills want to cut owens mid season they can do so with almost zero financial or long term repercussions. Therefore, if he wants to have a future in the league beyond this year, he knows he has to be on his best behavior.

  5. We all do stupid things when we are young?? That's right where I stopped reading. No, most of us are not victims of drive-bys, we don't do hit and runs, we are not caught smoking pot with concealed handguns, and we certainly don't have all 3 of those happen to us in a short span of 3 years.

As for the OPs question, no, he won't make it. He has already established a solid pattern of no respect for the law. But, I don't think he'll get thrown in jail. He has a good lawyer.

How is this related? You have a somewhat valid point, then you discredit yourself completely by throwing that in there.

  6. We all do stupid things when we are young. Even 3 years from now he'll still be just 25, and how many of us did stupid things more than once when we we're in our early 20's? He'll get counseling and eventually learn from his mistakes. So he smoked weed with his boyz in a black Mercedes with a loaded illegal firearm? It's all good... a victimless crime. We should also remember that there is a very good chance that if he was white nobody would care. I say, even if he does get into more trouble off the field why should we hold it against him? We have to have some compassion for a young guy from a tough neighborhood who hits it rich. Confusing times...besides, he issued an apology to the public through his lawyer, so why don't we accept it?

Time for everyone to chill...it's just Marshawn being Marshawn.

I just turned 26 and am from a good family/neighborhood, am not even close to rich and I'm still PLANNING on doing some really stupid things for hoboken st. patty's day tomorrow. Luckily, 1)I'm white, so I probably won't get caught, and 2)I'm not famous so even if I do my job would probably never find out and 3) My job sucks anyway.:lol:

  7. You obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Fitzpatrick had a 70.0 QB rating last year. IIRC, Grossman had a 59.7 QB rating last year. The last game of 2007 against the Packers he had 0.0 rating. I repeat a 0.0 rating. If you think Grossman would be better than Fitzpatrick you have no idea what you're talking about.

I agree that Grossman sucks, but he has had some success in the league, moreso than fitzpatrick. I don't want him either, but I'd rather have signed a guy whose proven he can play than a complete nobody. I'm happy we addressed the center position and I'm way more concerned about how we're goning to address the d line/lb positions than I am about back up qb. I don't want to get into an argument about whether cow sh*t stinks worse than dog sh*t by comparing grossman to fitzpatrick, but fitzpatrick stinks, there's no quesiton about it.

  8. I am not so sure about that, really. This guy is the bottom of the barrel.

Perfectly put. Its way way way way way worse than grossman, worse than losman, worse than just about anybody. The memory of him that stands out for me was calling my bookie as quickly as I could to bet on the browns when he was announced as starter for the bungles. I honestly think he might be the worst qb in the nfl

  9. im not that surprised by this. Belichick is a winner. Meyer is a winner. Their players are winners.

i got blasted around here for suggesting the Bills should try to get Tebow. the guy is a proven winner. he knows what its like to win and he knows he can MAKE WINS HAPPEN. i dont really care that he cant throw an out as well as some other QBs. we need a field general and a leader with confidence and personal accountability.

some people are simply winners, independent of their measurable athleticism. Florida not only has winners, but they teach players how to win. Theyre the modern Miami of the 80s.

    oh well, just a pipedream.

Matt Flynn, Chris Leak, Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Danny Weurful, Jason White, Chris Weinke, Ken Dorsey, etc etc. etc.

  10. So what- the players loved Marv Levy too. Whether or not he players like the coach or not has no correlation to how well coached the team is.

But I do think it has a correlation with how potentially successful they can be. If a coach is an a hole, but the players respect him they'll still play hard for him and execute his game plan (see: Johnson, Jimmy), but if a coach gets on the bad side of enough players they'll stop listening to him altogether and that will affect the team's performance.

  11. It's all realitve though. I've heard that same argument in regard to guys like Jim Brown ("he'd never be that good today 'cause today's athletes are bigger and stronger"). The same way those big and strong guys train, so would Jim Brown. Or do you think that everything concerning him would be exactly the same yet everyone else would be "bigger and stronger"?

Or maybe he would've quit because he didn't enjoy modern training, or maybe he would've injured his back squatting, or maybe he would've done mixed martial arts. Who knows. I understand that there are other factors involved as to why the athletes are bigger and stronger today, but if you're going to make these comparisons it only makes sense to compare how good they were when they played, not how good they would've been had x y and z happened. The argument is somewhat ridiculous to start with, but when you start adding even more hypothetical questions it just becomes absurd.

  12. Why? Because if they played before the merger, then they can't possibly be better?

No, because they were A LOT smaller, weaker, slower, and less athletic they can't possibly be better. I know there's more to football than that, but when the physical abilities are that different you really can't compare the two eras.

  13. If today's QB's went back in time, with bump and run coverage, single-bar helmets or no bar, goal posts planted at the goal line, and personal fouls assessed (maybe) only if you were unconscious and bleeding to the point you would sully the field...they might not shine so brightly.

Crackback blocks, receivers being constantly pummeled after the snap, slaps and elbows to the face, 2 goal posts on the goal line, not 1 at the back of the end zone and so on.

"peyton mannings, tom bradys, john elways, joe montanas and dan marinos" might have been weeping and sulking on the sidelines. Who knows?

Considering they are bigger than the linemen and faster than the defensive backs of those days, I'll put my money on them. If you can take a blindside, legal hit from 275 lb guy who runs a 4.6, even in full pads, then I think you can handle a late elbow or low hit in less pads from a guy who's 215 and runs a 5.2

  14. 1. Otto Graham

    2. Johnny U.

    3-4. Baugh/Montana or Montana/Baugh

Manning is not in the same class as those 4.

You sound like my friend who tried to convince me that Jim Thorpe was a better athlete than Kobe Bryant. His closing argument: Did Kobe ever win a decathlon? Side note: This friend is a virgin

  15. If his play never justifies his draft placement, then that's the FO's fault, not Whitner's.

Exactly. I hate when people get mad at a player for not living up to his draft position (not to mention the fact that there are 9 million different theories on exactly what justifies a player's draft position). Especially if its a player that works his hardest. Was donte supposed to do say "i appreciate the offer guys, but I'm second round talent, pick up an O lineman and call me in 30 picks or so".

  16. Laurinaitis was a very good college linebacker, but against the faster teams he played against (the usc game this year and the lsu game last year) he looked like a chicken with his head cut off half the time. I do agree that we need to upgrade at lb, but I dont think he's the answer.

  17. For the people that didn't see it, he gave a long speech about how much the team means to buffalo, how football isn't about making a profit to him, its about the fathers that take the kids to the game, about the competition and about the quality of life for the people in the community. He was talking about how crushing it would be for the team to leave buffalo and (i thnk he was referring to the colts) said its a crushing blow to a city when they wake up one day and their football team is gone. It might be wishful thinking, and I know its been said that the team will go to the highest bidder, but listening to him, I can't help but think he's gonna find a way to make sure the team stays after he dies.

  18. Can you sell it? If I could get a decent price, I'd sell. Otherwise a weekend in warm weather would be nice. May you can go to Tampa and sell the game tickets?

    PTR

I agree, go to tampa, sell the ticket, tampa is a fun city and I'm sure the atmosphere around the city for the game will be fun, watch the game on tv and use the money to pay for any expesnes associated with the trip aka strippers

  19. It is interesting to wonder how much coaching would change things. In 2007, Jauron did about as good of a coaching job as you can possibly do given the injuries, the Everett situation, and some heartbreaking losses. However, he took a huge step back last year.

The best and only real argument can make in bringing Jauron back is based on the past. We have switched coaching staffs every 2 or 3 years for the last decade. What has that gotten use??? Trent's entering his 3rd year and will be in the same system for the 2nd year. Our defense will be in the same system for the 4th year. Our draft and free agency period will tell alot if Jauron and company understand the weaknesses on this team. We need big people, big time.

I've gotta disagree on that one. Jauron's clock management/philosophy at the end of halves has been a consistent problem since he's been here. Inside of 2 minutes we get away from what's been working and go prevent d or kneel down O. This lost us the cowboys and broncos games for sure in 07 and maybe 1 or 2 others. I agree that he got the team to play hard every game in 07, but even with the injuries that should've been a 9 or 10 win team with good coaching. This year was just a complete coaching disaster in every sense of the word. Watching mangini and jauron duel to see who could find more ways to lose was beyond painful.

  20. The funniest thing is this douchbag is from New Jersey, NYC's sewer and the armpit of America (my apologizes to the good folks of NJ that didn't insult Buffalo).

But when you get drunk and fall on to the train tracks at an nyc subway its good to have someone from NJ there to save your life :D
