There is a reason he is dropping.
-
Maybe he is the anti welker? He sticks to receivers like glue.
-
Trey Wingo on ESPN just said when referring to the Reggie Corner pick, "Boy, Buffalo really likes to draft corners and safties" with a bit of a sarcastic tone. Then I think Cris Carter said "They sure do" .
Wow, if even these talking heads are noticing this troubling trend, it must really be obvious.
Plenty of teams like to draft secondary.
-
Someone who can develop into a solid backup/starter.
-
Ball hawk, or a kid who leaves his man for a chance at a pick? That can get ugly...
I heard on WGR that he sticks close to his man, and keeps one eye on the receiver and another on the ball.
-
I don't care what anyone says Corner would have been there for the later 4th round pick and even if he weren't I wouldn't have been sad to miss out on a 5'9" CB.
Because you have inside knowledge of other teams draft boards, right?
-
we have like 6 corners on our roster wtf man... kellen davis was available and so was the FB SCHMDITT!! DAMN MAN!!!
It's because they think he can become a good player down the road. They are drafting for value this late.

OK, let's talk some Bills Football..... This is NOT a qb debate!!!!!!!!! I am going to try to make a point.
If JP Losman was the starter, how do you think that he would have been with another 1st round defensive back? Please be honest. In 06 he was young and needed help galore, and the Bills came away with Whittner, McCargo, Youboty and Simpson with the first 4 picks, thanks to that great combo of Levy and Jauron. In fact, I think Kyle Williams was the 5th pick. Does this sound smart to you?
Now...fast forward to Trent. The Bills are an injury away from Duke Preston and/or Chambers, and their center is second rate. The same idiots ran past Branden Albert and took yet another 1st round defensive back. Do you think that Trent is happy? Do you think that it might have been a good idea to use their top resources to help and protect this young qb who has 9 or so starts?
If I was Ralph Wilson, I would go to court and seek a stay away order of protection to keep these 2 losers away from my franchise.
We are one player away from being crappy at a lot of positions, most NFL teams are. That doesn't mean you draft for DEPTH at 11.... you can get a C/G in round 4 or 5. It's stupid to pass up glaring needs (especially when the player is top 10 rated) for depth, just for the off chance that one of our Offensive linemen go down.
-
Yes. Depth is a luxury that the Bills do not need because they can run and stop the run so well with what they have and they never have any injuries.
Are you seriously suggesting we pick for depth rather than starters at 11? What world are you living in?
-
Just to toss some gasoline on the fire: Did you realize that the Bills had the 30th offense and the 31st defense in the NFL last year? The worst offense and the worst defense in the AFC East. Even if you look at points per game, the only AFC East unit significantly worse that the Bills was the Dolphins defense. Offensively, the Bills just plain sucked, being near the bottom across the board. If it hadn't been for not turning the ball over, they could've easily made a run at Miami for the #1 overall. Yet, they picked last of all AFC East teams, even after the Patriots traded down.
Not only that, but in a draft top heavy in OL and DL talent, the Bills walked away with two perimeter players.
Uh, other than Center the bills don't have a glaring OL need, and the good DL players were all taken before we could pick. And btw the fact that we were near last in offense and defense and still 7-9 shows that Jauron is a good coach.
-
I wish to be the first Bills Fan in 2008 to call for the firing of Dick Jauron. If I owned the team, I would fire him right now and have security escort him out of the war room.
And who would you have taken with the 11th pick? We got the top rated CB in the draft, which our scouting department considers a top 10 player.
-
I prefer Rucker, we need someone who has been a productive pass catcher in college.
-
Andrew (Syracuse, N.Y.): Lee Evans has "Hall of Fame" talent? Are you kidding me? KC, I think you've had one too many.
Joyner: I can promise you that inebriation had nothing to do with my comments on Evans. He led the NFL last season with a 10.6 yards per attempt. This wasn't an anomaly, either, because he also led the league in this category in 2004. He is well known as a dominant deep pass threat, but also placed in the top 10 in short pass YPA in 2006.
Given Buffalo's lack of a quality No. 2 wide receiver, Evans' ability to post this level of performance is simply amazing. This isn't to say I think Evans will be a Hall of Famer, because he can't even get elected to the Pro Bowl. But the numbers do prove he has that kind of talent.
From before last year. ESPN Insider.
-
Many scouts consider Evans to be a top flight WR, some even say he has HOF talent. I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of him.
-
seems to me like the bangbros is just photoshopped in.
-
It's because he made a couple mental errors last year (jumping inside when he should have gone outside or vice versa)am I missing something here?are we talking about the same Crowell that made a few experts All-Pro teams this past year? Isn't he regarded as one of the better up and comers at LB in the league? I think he's a fantastic player, quite possibly the best player on our defense last year, and I'm totally confused why you think his job is somewhat up for grabs.
-
Seriously, these numbers are WORTHLESS until you do the whole league. What if a team like the raiders has the same trends as the giants or colts?
-
lol that's right let's just never post on message boards because "we don't know". Do I work for an nfl team no. Do I feel I have a good grasp on defensive concepts, and a good eye for talent levels. I feel I do. To make you feel bettter. I don't see anything in the game of Kelsay or Denney, that makes them starters. As compared to other teams around the league, they look like rotational players, with minimal quickness/poor closing burst. They hardly demand any attention. As far as the bills addressing this need. Yes I feel it's a dire need. The Bills haven't drafted a pass rusher, since Aaron Schobel. I worry they'll continue to ignore, the most important aspect of defensive football, because of the money tied up in the position. Sadly that aspect overrides the reality of needs.
You realize that if the FO feels DE is fine then we won't get one in round 1, right? So speculating on how they feel about their pass rushers is rather pointless. We were among the league leaders in sacks 2 years ago, and none of these players are past their prime. The difference between DE and other positions is that it's a need based on what the FO thinks, not like WR or TE.
-
What's worthless is the opinions of those who have staked their children's lives on the Bill's drafting a bad WR with the 11 pick this year. Others are able to see that the trends among the Super Bowl Teams of recent years for the past 7 drafts favor D over O and DL over WR- and that's by a huge margin.
Now if you want to talk about the guys who love WRs, there's Detroit- you want their numbers?
And what would be the difference if we went WR at 11 and DE in the 2nd round, or possibly trading back into the 1st? This is a deep draft for DE's.
-
If you think he's "exactly what we need at the WR position" and he's a "touchdown machine" then why wouldn't you pick him at 11? Because someone told you that was too high?
Agreed, it's not about what draft pundits say.. it's about his grade on the teams draft board.
-
Go ahead and put your own time in- for me, my interest runs into why the good teams draft better than the Bills. I not inclined to put more time in proving how Atlanta and Cleveland approach it.
If you want to nominate someone who hasn't joined your "Draft The Next Koren Robinson" campaign, I'll be happy to forward the spreadsheet with formulas intact and they can do the balance of the league. The numbers I've seen so far suggest it will just continue to confirm that the best teams draft D over O, and DL over WR.
So, basically, you chose data only on super bowl winners to make your argument look good? What if the league average is around 20% DL? Then it all comes down to finding GOOD PLAYERS
Until you do this, your analysis is meaningless.

Of course we need dline help. We're one injury away from being worse then we were the last 2 seasons. We have a grand total of 1 pass rusher. Please save this stuff about freeing up Kelsay Denney. They're backup material at best. It should continue to be addressed early and often.
As if you would know anything about this? None of us do... so save the stuff about Kelsay and Denney being back ups. If the front office deems that we need a DE upgrade, even after all we have done with DT, then they will get one.
-
Hit the nail on the head. I dont deny we need a reciever, however to say we dont need a DE is kidding ourselves. My personal opinion is that DE's are more important then recievers. I also feel that the redzone offense will improve if the new O-cordinator decides to run inside the opponent 7 yard line instead of calling some slow developing pass play. Also if at last we have stability at the QB position with Either TE or Losman( I could care less wich one it is) I see our offense being better(especially with the O-line giving another year to jell). It wont be great offense but it will be middle of the pack type offense. If our defense can add a dominant pass rusher, atleast on paper they have the ability to be a top five in the league this year.
Uh, our entire red zone offense last year was:
1. Run
2. Run
3. bootleg/run
4. FG

I seem to remember we were among the league leaders in sacks in 2006.... hopefully a strong presence in the middle will bring us back to form. That is what pundits have been saying. It all depends on how the Bills feel about it though, if they feel we need an upgrade... they will get it.
Another CB !!? with the 4th pick... WHY!!

Agreed, with teams using more and more 4 wide out sets, and TE's becoming better pass catchers, you need a lot of good DBs.
