  1. yea Spikes is on the large side for WLB, but speed is more important here than size. And Spikes has the speed for sure. for teams who go to this style, will there even be a WLB and SLB...or just 2 OLB?
  2. Returning kicks may not be more dangerous, but the more Mcgee is on the field there is increased risk. If the Bills had more depth at CB; someone who can step in and do the job as #2 then I would agree. but if Roscoe can be above average at KR, i don't see risking Mcgee being worth it. Same reason i don't like to see Clements returning punts. Too important to the D. Although, I do believe he will be the primary KR this year.
  3. If Roscoe can be above average at KR i'd rather McGee not risk the injury. The bills don't have alot of options at #2 CB. They could use Vincent there in a pinch; and maybe Baker or the rookie at FS, but the DB's are not as strong that way. Mcgee could probably use the extra practice time at CB and could focus on playing there more if he did not have to think about being the primary KR. I always thought it would be tough on the player endurance wise to do both jobs. Mcgee is young, but its a long season.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...john&id=2439793 according to this, having 2 smaller faster OLB's is becoming more and more popular. This is a great article relating to the Bills D. It doesn't talk about the Bills, or their change to the Cover 2; but does show how faster linebackers are better for the Cover 2. (Crowell & Spikes) I am wondering though, if Middle and Strong side line backers are getting smaller; are they going to stop the run as well? The article indicates some of the bigger OLB (Posey) are getting used as DE; and some of those DE's getting moved inside to DT (kelsay????is that possible?) as teams try to get faster on the D-Line for the Cover 2. Aren't O-Lines going to have a field day in the running game? Smaller D-Lines...smaller LB's. Maybe not Buffalo's, but good run blocking o-lines should have an easier time with smaller front 7's. anyway, interesting article. the whole time reading it, i kept thinking it was about Buffalo without mentioning the bills at all...
  5. Interesting thought...any chance we employ the 3-4? or is cover 2 strictly a 4-3 setup? the only real success Posey had was in a 3-4 scheme and I believe Crowell was drafted as a MLB. So as far as our LB's go we have the right players for it. Posey Fletcher Crowell Spikes Although Posey may not have the coverage skills, and could be a weak link a la coy wire in coverage. I don't see why our DB's would have a problem with this, but i don't think D-line is not suited for 3-4. not enough BEEF, and buffalo's ends don't get enough pressure as a unit. Schobel is the only end I am completely happy with. Kelsay will hopefully keep improving. There is lots of talk about Tripplett and McCargo being the same type of DT, but how would they fair in a 3-4? Rotating them in an out...probably asking too much of McCargo as a rookie. Either way, I hope to see Crowell out there on most downs. He is fun to watch, and I think he will be a playmaker/difference maker for this D.
  6. I did some searching here and don't see much discussion about Angelo Crowell. A real bright spot for the bills last year. Isn’t posey a bit expensive to be a back up? Is there a chance he and Crowell split time, depending on the situation? Or is this more of a SLB/WLB issue? Maybe we will see Posey at DE more this year? LB Jeff Posey - $2.1875 M - $437,500 hit if released.. (http://www.billsdaily.com/frontoffice/salarycap.shtml) Also, its significant savings to cut him. About 1.75 mil. It’s not like we have ton of available cap room, so why keep him? There must be some FA's available to fill the backup LB role. Someone to play ST (which I don't think Posey does) and with the move to a Cover 2 D, Crowell probably fits our scheme even more this year. Looking at the stats and watching them play; this seems to be a no brainer. Crowell 6-1 235lbs Age: 24 GM: 15 TOT: 115 SOLO: 77 AST: 38 SACK: 3.0 TLOSS 8.5 (very impressive; best on the team. probably best on many teams) FF: 1 INT: 2 PD: 5 (also impressive) Jeff Posey 6-4 241lbs Age: 30 GM: 16 TOT: 61 SOLO: 39 AST: 22 SACK: 3.0 TLOSS 4 FF: 1 INT: 0 PD: 3
