  1. That makes a lot of sense. He interviewed for the Jets head coaching job last year and obviously didn't get it. Yet he stayed on to coach. If you had any pride, you would have left. He just sounds like a guy who is happy to be an assistant. That is definitely not a guy we need here. and it's not like we talking about some offensive genius here either. his gameplan is just run the ball behind a great oline and keep his QB from passing. Not too hard.

plus he's a really young coach. He may want to actually finish building something before taking off.

  2. Practical Question: While the Dominican Republic is no wealthy country, why is it so much better off than Haiti? You'd think a caribbean country would have something of a semblance of a tourism industry to help the economy?

Prayers to all affected by the quake.

long term political problems - instability.

if you go to google maps satellite image and follow the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, you'll see on the Dominican side tree covered hills, while literally just across an invisible line, the Haitian hills are nearly deforested and appear barren. Severe mismanagement.

Grimm will interview with the Bills

Posted by Mike Florio on January 13, 2010 10:04 AM ET

Despite reports suggesting that Cardinals offensive line coach Russ Grimm could decline an opportunity to interview for the head-coaching job in Buffalo, it appears that Grimm will proceed.

The Arizona Republic reports that the Bills have received permission from the Cardinals to talk to Grimm this week, as the Cardinals prepare to play the Saints.

Under league rules, teams that win in the wild-card round may grant or deny permission for head-coaching interviews to assistant coaches in the following week. No hire can be made until the playoff run ends.

Per the Republic, the interview could happen on Wednesday or Thursday evening in Arizona, or possibly on Sunday, the day after the division-round game.

Even if Grimm has misgivings about taking the job, it makes sense for him to talk to the Bills. The more he interviews, the better he'll be when interviewing -- and the more he'll be asked to interview.

Eventually, a sense will develop that it's inevitable Grimm will get an offer.

And when that happens, Grimm will have to think long and hard about whether it's the first of many, or the first of only a few. Sometimes, the window closes as quickly as it opened.

For more on this point, we yield the balance of our time to Jason Garrett.

  4. I will say - Minnesota blitzes as often as all but 7-8 teams. Like most T2 teams, they're moving towards a hybrid approach that uses the zone/4 man rush dominantly in passing situations, but has started working in run blitzes and surprise pass rush moves from the outside.

thanks for the info. good to know. I'd noticed also that Frazier worked 3 seasons under Jim Johnson in Philly. I wonder if that has influenced any of his approach.

  5. I lean toward B. Schott, but only by a little. I really like his approach to offensive football - dominating lines, focus on run but not ignoring the opportunities in the passing game. He'd also have the counsel (and connections) of his father, even if not officially, to build a very good staff.

I think Frazier may actually be more head coach ready than Schott, but I'm not a big fan of the more reactive Tampa 2 defense and would prefer a more attacking style (even though his approach has been very effective). I think he could assemble a great staff as well.

  6. No, I started this stupid thread as a joke and then it took a wicked turn. It was meant originally about the stereotypical wife dragging their ass to whatever function that you're trying to go to. That **** drives me crazy, like a lot of other husbands. You have to excuse me, I'm a few cocktails in.

I'm hoping other posters will use this thread to vent their rants and frustrations. I'm not looking for ANY kind of sympathy from anyone, I just wanted to vent and thought I was funny. It feels good to let **** go and I thought that I would blame the Bills, everyone else does.

I've got so much student loan debt and no real job. This economy is a P.O.S. I often daydream about what Pacific Island creditors would have the most difficulty in finding me. Can't get blood from a stone though. BTW I'm leaning toward Vanuatu.

  7. No it won't, it just makes him a douche for screwing his family who's already been through enough. Can't pay the bills already and you walk out on your source of income because you hate your job? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the hell over it, man up and go to work to make a living. You don't like your job, actively pursue another.

Nothing personal tipster, but it needs to be said. Ask yourself, WWBCD?

classy. i think saying this makes you a douche. nothing personal, but it needs to be said.

  8. Ray Lewis did not run 4.4 either.

I believe one of the problems the Bills have is that they have been using the combine olympics as opposed to game film to evaluate talent.

That's how we ended up with Maybin who posted great stats for his position. The HOF is full of LB's that didn't run a sub 4.4 40

Willis is very athletic but is he better than Lewis, or Urlacher, who ran slower times?? maybe, maybe not.

I like McClain in this slot. I hope we have a shot at him.

With this reasoning would it be fair to say until Jerry Rice runs a 4.3 forty its not fair to compare him to Don Beebe.

sorry but if you want to say McClain is a Willis-like linebacker then you cannot just ignore the fact that Willis is fastest middle linebacker in the NFL. You don't have to be a great linebacker to have great speed, but Willis is a great linebacker and much of that greatness is due to his speed. McClain is fast enough to be a great NFL linebacker, but if he runs a 4.7 it's not too likely he's getting picked in the top-10.

Also you're wrong about Maybin and measurables. Orakpo had a vastly superior 40 time (4.63 to 4.78) and bench reps (31 to 22) at the combine. Maybin ran comparable at his pro day. The safer pick by far based on measurables was Orakpo. It was his work ethic and faith that he will still grow into his body that led to the Maybin pick.

  9. The Bills should not touch a QB at number 9. They need a player who can contribute immediately. I'm not convinced about any of the QB prospects at number 9. I'd rather get a QB in Rd. 2. At number 9 I say OT or LB. And if both are on the board I would be hard pressed to choose. McClain looks like a Patrick Willis type guy. I think this decision will come down to what they do in FA. If they can get an OT in FA they are free to get a McClain. If they don't then they will need to take OT.

I only go QB if a guy like Claussen is there. I don't think he will be, so no, I don't go QB in round 1 either.

I like McClain a lot, but until he runs a 4.4 40, I don't think its fair to call him Patrick Willis. Willis is very likely the most athletic linebacker in NFL history

  10. There is no way Cody lasts until the 2nd when we pick. If we could get Bulaga and Cody in the same draft without trading away our picks for the next 2 years it would be the steal of the century.

there's a decent chance Cody will be there because he's not an every down player and he has a weight issue. Scouts Inc has him rated 52nd overall and other outfits have him around there too.

  11. McClain is already bigger than most of our DEs, so maybe he could be a twofer MLB on running downs and DE on obvious passing downs- as for OTs my guess is you are going to have to get back into the bottom of round 1 to get one who has a good chance of playing LT in the NFL.

I'm not sure I really believe his listed height and weight. I'm with you on the LT situation - I'm concerned about not pulling the trigger on one when we have the chance.

  12. Not according to the "Let's switch to the 3-4" faction around here. I agree with you. There isn't an LB in the league that can make a difference in a game if there isn't a solid line in front of them.

that's definitely true. We're gonna have a nightmare situation at DE if Schobel retires. I'm thinking we'll need to invest pretty heavily in free agency at end. Plus its likely we'll let Denney walk and the new folks might not be big Kelsay fans. Though I don't see how that's possible...

  13. between OT's Campbell, Davis & Bulaga I'd guess one of them will be available in our 2nd pick. Okung will be gone by the 9th spot anyway.

I doubt they'll be there in the 2nd, unfortunately. Pretty much your stuck with projects that could pan out at LT cause they have athleticism but little experience or bad technique, and solid right tackle only prospects by then. I hope you're right though.

  14. One would argue that the job he did with Denver's horrid Defense was nothing short of astounding this season.

However, the point is moot...both Frazier and Nolan are products of the players they have (had), not the systems they run (ran).

it started well, but their D, like the team as a whole, completely fell apart during the season. They gave up close to 40 points against the Chiefs with a playoff appearance on the line!

also, not only did he fail to win games in San Fran, the team seriously lacked discipline. If it wasn't for his firing, Vernon Davis probably would still be a mega-bust rather than the top young TE in the game and now a team captain.
