I hated this case and everything it said about modern day America.

    - Black man shot by cops. A tragedy? Yes. He's crippled for life. Justifiable shooting? I think so. The cops were called to a classic dangerous/domestic violence scene, and the alleged perpetrator/victim (take your pick, they both fit the bill) did something stupid that caused the cop to think he was probably reaching for something dangerous.

    - Idiot antifa "protesters" - White protesters - see this as an excuse to break stuff and burn someone else's city down. Some bring guns to a peaceful protest.

    - Idiot chubby girlish looking Illinois boy decides he's gonna be the big man and brings his rifle to the riot. Tries to act tough patrolling the streets of someone else's city in someone else's state.

And shockingly it all ends with dead bodies.

From what I saw of the evidence and read of the law, I probably would've acquitted him too. He was guilty of stupidity, of trying to inflame an already explosive situation, but probably not of homicide under Wisconsin law under these circumstances. He is no hero. He is a moron. An acquitted moron, but a moron nonetheless. So too are his victims (or, as the judge would have it, recipients of his bullets).

I've always disliked that old phrase that always pops up around here: "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes." But it applies here better than any other sentiment.

People: just stop. Stop trying to get back at the man by breaking stuff and burning things of innocent people. Stop trying to be a self-appointed hero by fighting back against Idiot Team A by forming Idiot Team B. Respect the law. Protest and call for justice where you should. Jacob Blake? Not a hero. Cop who shot Jacob Blake? Not a hero (or a villain; just a cop trying to protect himself when an arrest went bad). Mr. Grosskreutz, the survivor with no biceps?  Rittenhouse? Not a hero. Other than the wrong-place, wrong-time cop, all parts of the problem, not the solution.

Not a bad post.  The whole thing from the beginning of the protest was a series of bad acts that culminated in violence.  No surprise there.  The kid should never have gone there into that powder keg.  The governor and city leadership though own a big piece of what happened.  The protest should have been shut down the minute a brick was thrown.

Kyle's free today but his problems are probably just beginning.  There will be a lot of forces working against him in the coming months and years I suspect.

Justice seems to have been served at this point but it ain't pretty.

OK, I get that. I don't agree with it. All least not all of it.

But doesn't this mean that you should be applauding Biden? He did what Trump promised to do, but Trump didn't deliver on that promise. Biden "put America first" (essentially what Biden was saying in his speech today) rather than some general notion of human rights or even the very specific notion of women's rights in other countries.

So ... it's Two Cheers for Joe????

The agreement to withdraw was done over a year ago and our time was up there.  Joe has had months to orchestrate this AND to push back on the Taliban for violating the agreement.  It makes Joe look very weak as a leader which he is obviously.

Two of the most damning things I've read about the US leaving the country that are pinned not on only Biden but the US military are:

    1.  We didn't even tell the Afghan military we were leaving.  We just got up and left.  In the middle of night.

    2.  We prohibited contractors from remaining in or entering the country to maintain and repair the helicopters, vehicles, etc.  The Afghans barely knew how to operate them.  Fix them?  Once broken, stays broken.  A helicopter in that environment needs *daily* maintenance just to remain airworthy.

    3.  We did absolutely nothing to ensure the safety of the THOUSANDS of Afghans that worked with us until there were days to go.

Unless the Trump plan of withdrawal specifically said to do those types of things, that's a disaster that falls on the shoulders of the Pentagon and State.

#2 is wrong.  We have been training Afghan pilots and maintenance people for at least 10 years and possibly closer to 15 years.  We spent $Billions on aircraft, parts, facilities and training.  Much of this done by Northrup Grumman and very qualified contractors.

Bottom line is the vaccinated are now being asked to mask again to try and spare the unvaccinated from their own stupidity.

You couldn't be more wrong.  The vaccinated are being told to mask up because the vaccines only provide about 6 months of protection and our vaccinated population is gradually moving into an unprotected phase.  Many breakthrough cases are happening.  Just look at Israel cases where they vaccinated nearly their entire population very early.  Their case count is blowing up and is at pre-vaccine levels.  Link below.  We are headed to the same place.  In fact we are there, US cases are at November 2020 levels now.  You know who isn't getting Covid now or before?  Healthy individuals with healthy immune systems.

  5. Let's just call this what it is.  We knew that if the Afghan forces were challenged, they'd drop their guns and run.  We knew the Taliban would take control in short order.  For good or bad this administration simply doesn't care what happens there going forward.

Sure, and we’re back full circle to whether or not the shooting of AB was justified, necessary and all things considered, righteous.

When you look at the microscope most law enforcement shootings are viewed under, it’s very strange this isn’t getting that type of scrutiny.  Michael Brown roughs up a store clerk 50% of his size, attacks a police officer in his police car in an attempt to seize his gun, leaves, charges the officer and is shot and all he’ll breaks loose.   He’s the poster child for making really bad life choices, placed an officer in a “it’s you or me” scenario and is STILL considered a martyr after a DOJ investigation.

AB is an averaged sized female, unarmed based on the investigation and is shot in the neck and…crickets.  I was with you all along, but this scenario makes no sense whatsoever.

Agree the cop used excessive force and provided no warning before firing.

No one needs to strong arm her at all. I’m sure she intends to run and voter’s will choose someone else. Not all that complicated.

Agree, although the party puts its' thumb heavily on the scale.  Without the party Bernie may have been the nominee this time around.  Bernie had high negatives like Trump and maybe Bernie wouldn't have cooperated with the stay in your basement we'll cheat you over the finish line as readily as Joe.

Hate to say it but I'm going to agree with you somewhat here.  There are things you can do or say in this country that will put your life at risk.  The laws won't protect you. The 1st amendment won't always protect you.   I'd say breaking into the capital and then forcing your way through doorways or a broken window is one of those things that puts one's life at risk.  It's not a legal act but also not one that should result in being shot dead without warning.   Now if AB's case is fairly adjudicated, the end result might be that she was wrongfully killed.  Too late though, she's gone and she made a terrible decision IMO to enter that building as a part of that crowd that day.  The officer may be held responsible civilly.  2 wrongs don't make a right here.

  9. OK serious question here.  In light of the Cuomo allegations, who here thinks Kamala Harris would have ascended to the position of VPOTUS had she not provided oral and other gratification to Willie Brown?  Obviously the women that Andrew Cuomo hit upon chose not to engage him and were not receptive to his advances.  Willie Brown may have initially hit upon Kamala in a similar fashion.  Like Cuomo he was a very much older man (than her) and in power.  However unlike Cuomo's girls, she engaged willfully and for a period of time and benefited from that relationship.  He appointed her to at least 1 position (pun intended).  He supported her campaigns for office.

So had Kamala rebuffed his advances does anyone here think she would have had the career she's having purely on the merits of her work?  Would the merits of her work have carried her to the U.S. senate?  I stopped there because we all know she was picked for VP solely on her gender and perceived race and ethnicity.  Like so many pols her resume beyond the titles is empty of accomplishment, unless you consider her efforts to obstruct Brett K to the SCOTUS an accomplishment.

    What do y'all think?

holy crap….  79 in the city alone?  I feel like in Buffalo it’s rare to see more than 3 people shot in a weekend

yep.  The media has no problem reminding.l people of the percentage of White Republicans who aren’t vaccinated, so why not  for this?

What's really sad and telling is that they only make arrests in about 15% of the shootings and that's been true for years.

  11. Here are the latest Chicago numbers.  Just for this weekend, 79 people shot 12 of which were killed.  Insane.

Update for the weekend: total of 86 shot 13 of which were killed.  Good thing for residents the shooters have lousy aim.

Because she's the VP and they've been painting this reign of error as the Biden-Harris administration from the beginning.  That tells me she wants to be President and they wanted to transition her into the position.  If they tell her "you're out" and install someone else who isn't a woman and/or black (I can't see either, much less both, and if they install a white man...), you don't think that will turn-off a lot of people?

Biden will finish his term short of a significant health problem.  She'd otherwise get slaughtered in a re-election bid IMO.  She can't win the nomination in 2024 either IMO.  She's served her purpose which was to check a box in 2020.  She's Peter-Principled out.

Oh - she was? Do you think there isn’t video and photos of Ashli where she was shot?

Do you have similar photos of you “standing in a hallway”, correction: crawling through a broken window inside the Capitol leading to the Speakers lobby?

    image.thumb.jpeg.9052fa4d5feb80ccd3a7b761a6438e8d.jpeg

If only she just complied - instead she F’d around and found out.

It's a shame that the full video with audio of her being shot was taken down from youtube and others a day or two after the incident.  I saw and listened several times.  The officer NEVER gave her any warning verbally to stop.  He was hiding in area to her extreme left most likely not within her view.  He then stepped out without any warning and fired the shot.  She was not armed.

Now are there laws that allow police in that location to do that?  I don't know but certainly had this been an unarmed criminal on a city street breaking into a building who was then shot without warning by a police officer, the country would have become unhinged.

What’s my motivation, as the consumer, to change?  Because government said so doesn’t cut it.  The infrastructure required to make electric vehicles viable would be HUGE!

And not to mention the global shortage of Lithium.  Electric cars will win a lot of market share for their simplicity if they are affordable and their range and the convenience of recharging (away from home) improves.   Really government needs to just stay out of the way and let the products, technology and market develop.
