On paper, its an A+ for me...its not very often you can add arguably one of the top 2 prospects at many positions in a draft:
Maybin = best pass rush prospect
Wood = 1st or 2nd best C/G prospect
Levitre = Best G prospect
Byrd = One of best S prospects
Nelson = Top 2 or 3 TE propsect
Nic Harris = Potential steal as a LB prospect
Thats a dam good draft...now time will tell how it pans out, but on Draft Day, the Bills GOT IT RIGHT.
Byrd and Harris for me are the only dark picks. Byrd as a saftey intrigues me, but if they don't use him it's pointless. I hope they do. Harris as a LB prospect is also intriguing, except that they list him as a pure CB. If he can transition and not play solely ST, then it's all good. I still give an A- on the top end if they can transition into their projected positions and play this year.
A+ would be reserved for an exceptional trade / pick, something like getting Nelson in the 6th (would not have happened, I'm happy where they got the steal and it was an exceptional value at that pick). If they could have taken him lower, A+ draft easily, not that I rated him that low. I just believe some D or O line backups would have put us over the top. Given that we can get a good LB in FA.
Personally, all but the harris pick is AWESOME to me.

Draft grade (regardless of 7th round).
B+ IMHO. Could be an A- depending on how things play out.
Could we have done better, yes and no. Did we get most of what we needed, yes. Are 4 of 5 going to be starters, yes. Will they make an impact, yes.
-
relax we have 5 guys who can play tackle
and 35 guys that can play ST
-
We have 5 DB's, 3 of which frequently get hurt...its great value as he was projected 3rd round...
And you are all forgetting about potential ST contributions...
This kid can play, so how do you know he wont beat our Corner or Youboty?
Corner might be a goner. How many STers do we need? We can have a whole 52man ST offense.
-
Wow, I've felt completely the opposite. Mayock and Gruden have been on fire all weekend.
To each his own I guess.
It seemed like they lost steam in the second round and just got plain lazy.

Everyone loves to B word about how their team is disrespected, but one of the constants of draft days has always been ESPN seemingly cutting away every time we are on the clock. Or interviewing Jerry Jones for the 3rd time while our pick is being announced...
Not the case at all this year. I think we've gotten more coverage than any other team (maybe save the Jets for the Sanchez pick and the Raiders for Al's scotch-and-soda selections). I think every one of our picks has gotten the little "video highlight bio" and Kiper seems to stop and talk about each one (and like them).
So I don't know how many of you have been watching NFL network instead, but you may have missed the most coverage our Bills have ever gotten from the Bristol crew...
I think ESPN had better coverage this year all the way around. I watched NFL Network yesterday and thought it was pretty horrible coverage for all the teams.

Wait for it... wait for it....
Sept 2009: Dick Jauron develops the NFL's first 11-DB defense.
Post of the draft! We just have to name it.
WildJauron defense
DeTard defense
hmm...

Just to put this in prospective....do you realize some of you guys are bitching about who they are taking in the 6th round of the draft.....
That we got our TE and Nic Harris so late alone makes this day a success
I agree, outstanding draft. 6th round, who cares. But we could have gotten some depth at needed positions. As someone else pointed out, Mcgee may not be here next year, so this could be okay.
-
It will be next year. McGee's contract will be up
I didn't think about that...
-
Cary Harris was the best CB on my board in Round 5. Getting him Round 6 is good.
except that we don't need more st'ers..
-
Guys like him only know what Kiper and Madden 2009 tell them.
PTR
He's still holding Peter's peter and won't let go. Common sense is not something he has much of. Peters did not want to be here. We could've kept him, but he would've held out until the last few games, so what's the point? Get a guy that can contribute this year, or keep a guy that doesn't want to be here and won't play anyway until he has to.
-
Did the Peters trade make us better this year?
By moving Walker to LT and Chambers to RT, we simultaneously downgraded at two positions.
The trade allowed us to get the 2nd Center taken overall, and draft a TE who was not considered one of the top 5 TE's.
What we lost was a proven LT who I don't think anyone would argue was not in the top 1/2 of the league at his position, which is the 2d most important on offense.
I'm ashamed. Mr. Wilson, you have monkeys in your front office. Call security.
Your 2nd post, and you still continue to call the FO a bunch of monkeys. Go root for the Raiders.
-
It goes without saying. The geniuses at One Bills Drive are always thrilled with the draft and then at the end of the season the team misses the playoffs again.
Funny how that works.
If you two are so much better, why not lend your mad skillz to the FO? I hear so many people complaining about the FO all the time, makes you wonder why you don't get a position over there?

After writing this, I threw up in my mouth a little. Did I miss anything or inaccurately characterize the change?
No comment other than to say you should go swish your mouth out.

Do you actually watch the games or are you one of those keyboard warriors who looks at a stat sheet and spews nonsense on boards like this one? Whitner's tackle numbers are lower than they could be because he changes the direction of plays, forcing guys to make a cut and lose good running lanes. He has had to play nickel, FS and SS and we consistently move him up to the line to compensate for our weak D-line. Give him one year with a decent cast around him and watch his numbers. I'm sick and tired of hearing he was a reach at 8. He was the player we wanted, he moves around to whatever spot we need him in and he understands the concept of team defense. If he forces an inside run to the outside and someone else makes a tackle, guys like you aren't going to give him credit for doing his job, all you look at is the stat sheet at the end of the game.
I watch every game. He's been out of position a lot. He was a reach at 8, plain and simple. Is he serviceable? Yes, without a doubt. Is he elite enough to be a number 8 pick? No way in hell.
You said he was a hell of a football player. I call him an above average backup with flashes of glory. I'm so sorry your sick and tired of hearing the truth.
edited to add: I watch every game I can, though I do miss a few.
I'm not in the war room, so I can't tell you anything more than my personal opinion. That opinion stands on him being trade bait or released before September.
-
I asked about this in another thread, I think he's a good late rounder as well (as mentioned by another in the other thread), which was why I asked. Good depth if you ask me.
-
What has made him a hell of a football player? Just curious. What do you see that most people on here don't? Whitner has been dissapointing for an 8th overall pick.
I gotta agree...tell us what makes him a hell of a football player. He was moved around a lot, but a hell of a footballl player should have been able to put up some damn good stats.
-
But seriously, look for Pat White in their Wildcat formations. That might spell some trouble.
I just had to be a naysayer... Miami did pick alot of WR's though. White looks okay, but that depends on who's going to be throwing him the ball.
Miami's Wildcat is going to get found out more so than it did last year.
-
Wait - no ones threatening to leave Bills fandom over this one? The Front Office must really be doing a good job
Hey wait... I'm walking! This draft stinks, we should have taken all the good players the raiders took! They did so much better than us. Miami's WR core is going to kill us next year with all those SWEET WR's. We should have drafted more CB's to compensate..
ah... Just kidding.
-
In the 5th round?
He'll be a ST starter.
We don't need many more of those..
-
Reach of -57, but I LOVE the pick. Great depth in the backfield. Now it's certain they take Keiaho at OLB, though.
I like the Keiaho talk, so I'll consider this a good pick.
-
Is he starting material?
-
He's a LB.
eh, okay.....
-
Nic Harris - S - OK
So we got two new safties? FS and SS?
edit: or LB?
Best and worst drafts so far?
