  1. Spikes is a proud guy. He will give max effort to get back. Call it blind faith but I would not give up on him just yet. Other than the play where Heap blocked him downfield, I can't remember a terrible play that stands out. I was more bothered by the Willis fumble and the JP's slant pass goaline pick on first down. Good teams avoid those moments.

  2. Great point re: Kyle Williams. he made the initial contact repeatedly today. A few times the runner still fell forward for plus yardage which I guess is due to his size.

The interior Oline had a bad day. Fowler reminded me of Bennie Anderson turned backwards with his hands out after geting beat. Gandy stunk too.

I would also give props to Roscoe Parrish who had a great second half.

  3. late Second, Third round pick, def top 100. He has the leadership skills Marv likes. Has great hands. I would never mention him in the same breath with Rerggie Bush though. Part of Bush's production comes from being able to line him up in different spots where his speed always forces the defense to account for him. Leonard is going to line up in the backfield for the most part. Leonard reminds me a lot of Rob Konrad moreso than Alstott.

  4. Well said. I was not encouraged listening to the game on the radio. I found the score to be embarrassing. After watching the replay last night, I was encouraged. They were not physically dominated. Tripplet and Kyle Williams look like an upgrade over Anderson and Fat Sam. On offense Reyes looks very athletic as does Fowler. More pulling and trapping possibilites with those two.

The good throws Losman made showed why he was a #1 pick. The balls he skipped were many times on checkdowns which show his inexperience but can be corrected. He also threw a few too quickly. Things that may be able to be corrected even if it takes half a season.

  5. JP needs to be on the field with Evans, Parrish, Royal, Reed and Willis as much as possible to benefit all parties. I thought Friday night was the best Losman has looked since he joined the team.

With 2 minutes left in the first half the other night, if he was pulled from the game, we would be singing his praises for a good performance leading the team to three scoring opportunities. Instead, in the last 2 minutes, he fumbled twice and gave 6 points to the Bengals so now all other progress in the game is forgotten.

The intermediate and longer passes he threw to Lee Evans were perfect. He threw a perfect strike to Parrish across the middle and a perfect 20 yarder to Reed that was dropped. Those were impressive and not easy throws. How can anyone not be excited about those throws? Those deeper throws will also push the defense back and give Willis some room.

The interception was horrible but he came right back with two strikes to Evans that showed he was capable of overcoming a bad play which he could not do last year (see Miami game).

Bottom line, the offense showed more progress and more excitement Friday night than ever existed under the supposedly innovative Malarkey. Willis, Lee and yes, JP showed they are getting better and this offense going in the right direction.

Put me in the minority that actually finds this offense watchable again.

  6. Was at practice as well: I was impressed with Royal. He moves well, very athletic. Willis looks like he is ready to go as well.

Peters looks good. Gibson is huge; not quick but huge. Villareal looks good. Tutan Reyes looks very athletic not the blob type we usually see at guard. Fowler looks small to me which is a concern.

Passing drills near goaline- Clemons got beat a few times. Once by Evans, once by Aiken. Good news is passes were perfect by JP. Bad news Nate is our #1 corner. Parrish fell down about three times in drill. Chris Denny looked good for a camp fodder type.

Kickoffs- I thought Parrish was electric, really darts thru openings. Mcgee looks good too.

Defense- Schobel looked good. 2nd defense- Whitner and Simpson got burned on one pass- lotta of yelling by coaches after that play. They really march Whitner right up to the line of scrimmage.

QB's- JP throws nice long ball, long outs right on time. KH 's ball stays in air long time, makes better decisions with shorter throws. No newsflashes here.

Spikes was moving well. Wire was not suited up. Team does look fast overall.

  7. Dumping Sam Adams and Lawyer Milloy was absolutely the right move. Adams mailed it in all season, did not even draw a double team. Most teams ran right at Adams and Kelsay, see Jets game last December against one of the worst defafor offenses in football reference. Both made sense from a financial standpoint as well.

What could have been done differently with Moulds? Suggestions?

  8. WR 7th R - Damian Rhodes SU - Stuck last year behind the worst OL in modern college football history, the RB was basically forgotten about. He has good hands and can be converted to wideout. No risk as a last pick.

I like Frostee Rucker off your list, he produced on the field. Nande has great numbers.

  9. I think Ralph should start making some noise about rotating the host of the Thanksgiving Day game. Jerry Jones should not be given this marketing advantage every year when the small market teams need to boost their marketing and revenue dollars. Fight fire with fire Ralph.

  10. I completely agree with the Ngata pick. Marv used to say players win games not schemes. Ngata is the best D tackle on the board. If he's there at 8, he should be picked. He will immediately make Schobel better. Our run D was pathetic last year. DT's haver a quicker impact than OLineman. Look how young lineman like Seymour, Henderson, Casey Hampton dominate early on. Bunkley is a reach that early. Go for the best DT.

  11. Fancy quote but one could argue athletics is populated by many who have won with questionable character. Dennis Rodman, Pete Rose, Duane Thomas, Michael Irvin, Etc Etc have multiple rings. JP's character was not a problem the first quarter in Miami or when he came off the bench vs. KC. I saw some flashes of big time talent there. Maybe Marv is floating the rumor to give JP a nudge. Hard to believe we give up on him so soon.
