In his defense... I know, it's crazy... once the guy knew he was done, why delay it? Why risk the injury? And why not let someone else step into your spot that really wants it, instead of 'going through the motions?' Isn't that actually a better 'team-first' call?

Is the argument being made here that we should be grateful for poor drafting as the alternative would have resulted in more wins? Really?

I like our team, too, it's certainly much more complete when everyone's healthy and, outside of a true 3rd starting LB, maybe a better #2 DT and depending how you feel about our LT situation, we're OK. Problem is, we can't discount the difficulty of our schedule. Last year was a breeze compared to this year's, and while I think we've made up ground on the Jets and Fins, the non-division games are going to be murder. We may be better but the record may not reflect it... plus if Maybin really does need at least a year to grow into a starting NFLer, it's 2010 that will be the interesting year and the one we should take a step up in.

Every summer a couple of big name receivers become available via trade or signing... never fails. A move like this makes little sense this year; if you're going to trade for a player, you'd want to do it at another position than WR, suddenly a very strong point of our team.

I never got that for tackles... I get it for ends in the 4-3 system, but if you can NT in a 3-4, shouldn't that only make you better in a DT position in a 4-3? Ignoring that whole dopey 'under-sized, penetrating DT' thing that the Cover 2 supposedly needs, seriously, can someone explain why a Wolfork or Hampton wouldn't be great in a 4-3?

It's almost unanimous that whoever gets the best player in a trade, in any sport, ends up winning that trade. It would be DUMB to move cos a few fans are ticked off at him.

Very much into this pick... Stroud played all 16 games this year, but there's no guarantee our luck in the capacity will continue... having 2 tackles worthy of double-teaming would be just incredible. Obviously I'm dreaming now, but if they did sign a legit top DE in the off-season and keep Crowell, the line, and defense, could be close to the Conference's best.

All that would mean is that he would bring in 1 mediocre free agent instead of 2. Same difference.

Crowell's primed to be had ON THE CHEAP. Might as well pencil him into our lineup next year.

Lotsa cash waiting to be deposited by simply selling the naming rights to the stadium... yeah, generic corporate sponsored names are lame, but I'd rather have a dopey named stadium and improved team/improved odds at keeping the team from moving than the alternate.

I'm gonna go on record and say the Bills will thump...And I mean THUMP the Fish in Toronto...It's a revenge Game...The Bills know they blew the Game at Miami...And there will be a HUGE Home Field advantage in that 1st ever Regular Season Game North of the border...
As for the rest of them I'm not sure...But I just have a feeling about that Toronto Game...Miami is walking in to a trap...The Bills will look like SB Contenders on 12/7/08...Mark it down...

As weak an excuse as any for the losses. You play your opponents the same time they play you... conversely, we could have played a much healthier Jax team later in the season.

Not that he'd solve all our problems, but having Crowell out there sure would be nice, no? Smooth move, Bills front office. Way to stick it to the team, I mean, player.

Seems to me Marshawn Lynch is a powerful runner but not quick enough to put distance between him and tacklers once he has slipped a tackle. However I was so surprised to see his speed trying to run down the Jets player all the way to the end zone. Oddly enough he seemed to get sick after that long fast run. Your thoughts???
Jets player was slowing down... only reason it looked so close.

Anyone concerned a 4 week injury is too short to put a guy on IR, look at Poz just last year. Guy got hurt in week 3 and could have played the last 6 games.
If they are doing this to give Crowell the shaft, that, to me, is some seriously bush league garbage. Who you're really giving the shaft to are the other 52 guys on the team, telling the that team success is second to personal vendettas with particular players. What kind of player will want to play for a team like this? Last year was growing pains, this year was supposed to be take a step forward... it's like they have no interest in doing just that.
With moves like this, I don't for a second have any time for lame 'small market' excuses for not competing from management.
Of course, all this assumes that there isn't more to the story that I am unaware of, but it wouldn't surprise me if that were the case. Actually, the opposite being true would be the real surprise.

I would hardly call him 'nothing more than an adequate backup'... he may not be worth mega-bucks based on his lack of starting time, but he is clearly among the elite back-ups and surely better than at least a handful of starters.

Like Moulds for us last year, there are always some quality players who get cut/traded after the draft... no need to rush to sign someone to make some website's FA report card on us look better.

If they penalize Bills picks for not playing enough, how does Davis deserve an A as well? I think he'll be great, but last year was nothing to write home about.

SB win, while nice, would have little effect on my life. 10k, however, would have definite repercussions. Take the money and run.

Posted about a guy whose team just beat a year-removed from winning the SB team, pushing them to 9-1? In a game where his team 'only' scored 17 points and he passed just a few above 200 which for Allen would be... the norm?
Obviously he's going to start declining but let's hold our horses on 'done' talk. He's still, what, 5th or 6th in yards passed this year and above 90 for rating?
