  1. Ill grant you that Merriman was supposed to bring his "lights out" with him when he came to Buffalo, but didn't, not really. After 5 games the Bills only had 2 sacks against the Chiefs( Scott & Johnson) , 0 sacks against the Raiders, 0 against the Patriots but 4 INT's,2 sacks against the Bengals ( Darius & Merriman) 1 sack against the Eagles (Merriman) 5 sacks total in those first 5 games.

Did the Loss of Merriman have that much impact....that even with Chris Kelsay back last week they can't get any pressure at all? I dunno, kinda doubtful IMO considering the Bills had 10 sacks against the Redskins without Merriman.

I don't get it, did the defense start playing more conservatively, did they stop blitzing completely and try and play it safe?

Injuries shouldn't be an excuse, even the backups are still highly skilled professionals. The packers lost like 10 starters, and another 6 players to injuries last season and still won the SB

Anyway it still doesn't explain what happened to the offense 30+ points a game and 400+ yards to 200 yards and to 11-7-8 points in each of the last 3 games.

WTH happened to this team, did they lose their heart? ... are they just playing for their paychecks now? I just don't get it!

Regarding QB pressure, read Zulu's post.

The defense stinks. It did all last year and with the exception of the KC & Washington games, stinks even worse this year. Doubly so given the fact that George Edwards has an entire season and a half under his belt and has done virtually nothing to improve the defense. Stats don't lie. They don't. They just don't.

As far as injuries, our backups are either highly skilled awful players or in highly awful schemes. Either way, opposing teams are highly ecstatic when they come on the field. I just highly cringe.

Good question as to the offense. How about this: with the exception of Chandler, the other receivers have played like pussified clods the last 3 games. We're not going to win games behind Freddy Jackson when the score is 28-3 at halftime. At this point, Chandler is the only receiver worth a crap. The ONLY one. If they pay Stevie Johnson the money he's looking for, they're out of their minds. We have no WR that is a legitimate deep threat. Not one. Passing game is one dimensional, other teams know it and the lack of offensive scoring in the last 3 games is pretty much all the proof needed.

Did they lose their heart? Yeah, probably. IF the injuries hadn't kept coming and coming and coming, this team may very well have been 7-3 at this point. But key injuries, the utter lack of competent depth and George Edwards' wretched defense have killed this season. You know it, I know it and you'd better believe that every single one of the players and coaches on the team knows it, no matter how much they spout the rah-rah-gotta-keep-fighting-it-ain't-over-till-it's-over crap. It's over.

    The problem is threefold:

    1. Mounting injuries to key starters. We're averaging what, about 2 a game now? It happens. Not a blamable fault, but......

    2. Lack of competent depth (ref: #1). Either crappy players, poorly prepared, crappy schemes or some combination thereof. This one's on the Bills. They're responsible for picking them, preparing them and calling the schemes.

    3. George Edwards wretched defense. Organization completely and totally at fault for keeping him after last season's defensive debacle. Utterly inexcusable. Mind boggling to see he's still there now. Show of hands as to who thinks this defense would possibly be any worse with Wannstedt in as DC? Anyone? Yeah, I didn't think so.

  2. Bills are so beat up in skilled position, they better go to the 2-back, with a FB, and power football. I don't think they have a choice. Pound it.

Every pass should go to Chandler. At this point, he's the only receiver worth a monkey deuce.

"Pounding it" when they are behind 28-3 isn't going to accomplish much, is it?

  3. certainly will be watching and following chat with fezmid leading out as i enjoy the social aspects of following team, but just can't see any urrent evidence to expect anything other than pain on the field for Bills and us in disappointment at another beat down. It was great to see and hear of a reemergence of the team as being competitive and interesting , even fun to watch, it frustrating and most disappointing to see it all turn to fools gold. So tough on the head and heart to have optimism drained and pulled away. On it goes,

I for one, refuse to watch any more Bills games this season until there is a reason to watch them. Each of the last 3 games has been worse than the previous one. With the mounting injuries, the wretched defense and the offense going down the crapper, there is no reason to think that there is any improvement on the horizon. I love 'em, but this season is gone. I'll check the scores and if they show some signs of life, I'll check back in.

Last 3 games is like SETI....no signs of life.

  4. It seems to me what they are trying to do through recent episodes is some "Character biulding"

    Still some awkward moments.....

    - They are driving down the road and from out of nowhere the Blonde needs a sexual fix? WTF where did that come from as these two have biult absolutely no chemistry in that way so far through the series. While I am wondering why it has taken this long for someone to notice the blonde is a hot female she to me seems a bit on the "quiet crazy" side.......I would sleep with one eye open there

    - Why does the old man care what the blonde does? He just seems entirely over protective of her and needs to realize he is dealing with adults not children.....

    - The contfrontation between the old man and Cop #2 seemed overly dramatic.....

    - I like the setting they are laying out with the Cop #2 and how he might be put out as a villian in the future.....he saved himself by wining the fat guy earlier....was banging the cops wife (even though they thought the cop was dead) but still and have been holding it secret (and now the secret is out)

My favorite charactor so far is the cops wife.....excellent actress and she is portraying her conflict awesomely......when she came out that she had been banging Cop #2 because she thought her husband was dead I found myself say "That took grit to come out with that and tell the truth" she forced me to engage her charactor and want to understand her a little better....thats acting.

My least favorite is the cop's wife. She comes across as a self centered brat. Ripping her husband for not telling her about the walkers in the barn and then non-justifying not telling Rick about her pregnancy was teeth grinding. But.....it's the writers, not her (I keep telling myself).

  5. He said as much. He said he focuses on the offense and does not get involved with the D-Coordinator's game management.

I don't mind a head coach who knows how to delegate, but he has to make sure that the person he is putting his trust in can get the job done. Edwards has had two years to show some progress and so far his unit is stinking up the joint.......again.

Maybe this is the problem. Perhaps he doesn't know who the DC is.

  6. I don't think Gailey wants to fire Edwards immediately because, record-wise, Buff is far from out of contention. A staff shake up now might be interpreted by some in the locker room as giving up on this season already - which would probably assure their current free fall would continue through the rest of the season.

That said, i agree with you, i've seen enough of the Edwards hybrid experiment and think he should go after this season. The talent level on D is inadequate for anything other than a base 43 at this point. We don't even have enough decent DBs to field a competent nickel/dime defense on passing downs. Unless you're playing Denver every week, that spells death in today's league. Here's hoping Aaron Williams makes some big strides in the next few weeks.

Edwards should have been gone after last season. Is there anyone who doesn't think that?

  7. In case you haven't noticed, of the current contenders for the last wild card spot, only Cincy has won more games than Buffalo. None of those teams is good. I know some of you want to throw a temper tantrum and write off the Bills because they've looked terrible the last 3 weeks, but momentum can change quickly in the NFL. I think a 9-7 team will get a wild card this year. Find a way to beat the Jets next week and they're right back in solid position, amazingly.

With partial due respect, if the Bills find a way to beat the Jets, and/or get a wild card berth, I will find a way to shack up with Penelope Cruz, flap my arms and fly to Paris.

  8. Out of curiosity, what offense do you think he should run? Some sort of power running game? How confident are you that the current OL is going to be gashing holes in NFL defenses?

Chan has been smoke-and-mirroring it all season by hiding glaring weaknesses in his offense. These haven't gone away, but have only gotten more acute.

Exponential amounts of injuries haven't helped, either.

  9. On the 3rd Down INT that Nelson dropped he was 2 yards short of the 1st Down marker...I've never seen a Team throw so many passes within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage (in-front or behind)...This is the NFL...And Chan's inability to come up with anything besides what WAS working a few weeks back is beginning to be troubling...These plays are not working and the Defenses they are facing are on to it quite obviously...Add to that the fact that Fitz has come back down to earth and this Offense looks REAL bad...I mean REAL bad all of a sudden...I know this is not popular to say about Pro athletes...But it sure as hell looks like a few guys have quit out there...Either that or they have definitely lost confidence in this Offenses ability to move the Ball consistently...Add that to the worst Defense in football and that's how you get down to a 2 win Team by over 20 points in one half of football...Pathetic... B-)

Looks like Chan has lost the team. I never would have believed it 4 games ago.
