1. Bzzzzt!

That was Bill Polian - architect of those Super Bowl teams and multiple winner of the NFL Executive of the year award. He was the one who scanned the waiver wire every single night and snatched him the second he became available. It was believed that Houston tried to sneak him through one night, but Polian was ever vigilent.

Yeah, that was ancient history. What's Bill Polian done lately?

  2. With which players?  His starters and get them hurt?  Even Cassel needed some playing time before the playoffs... It isn't inconceivable that if Brady goes down, it is very likely that a 40 something old midget could too.

Didn't see the game.  When Flutie did the drop kick, weren't the Pats going for a 2 pt. conversion because of the saftey Miami got, causing a 2 point "swing" in difference.

Again, I didn't see the play... Maybe Flutie knew the 2 pt. conversion was gonna fail and decided at the last second to get at least 1 pt. with the drop kick?  Sounds pretty heads up on DF's part.

You seem to forget, they were trying to tie the game on the last score (0.00) with another 2 pt. conversion attempt.

Just looking at the stats, it seems NE was playing to win and resting people... They were trying to do both... Maybe that is the "genius" of BB...  :D  :D

They did it just for fun. It was 4th and goal from about the one. Flutie lined up in a deep shotgun and drop kicked it through.

  3. The bad guys want to overrun our country, and kill all the people who won't convert- they couldn't care less for what we call civil liberties.

    544795

Because our emenies have no regard for civil rights, we shouldn't?

Our government feels free to legislate moral decisions--I want that government's ability to snoop strictly controlled.

  4. this pretty much covers it.  do the rules sometimes suck? yeah sure.

but if you don't like the rules don't go.

    544638

They absolutely changed the story from yesterday. In yesterday's version, Giambra made the quote about the Bills being in charge of the stadium, but then expressed concerns that the Bills were violating the Constitution by throwing people out for signs and for yelling criticisms.

  5. Add to it the controversies they created with Adams, Moulds

    and Mike Williams.....

    544643

Adams plays out of position, which made the Bills run D worse than it already is, and MM benched him. What's the problem?

Moulds, by all accounts, was a little B word and refused to go earn his millions, so MM benched him. And by the way, MM never went to the media with it. What's the problem?

Mike Williams isn't that great. Care to identify the better option on this team? What's the problem?

  6. But is that on Mularkey or Donahoe (or the late JButler, in the case of Flowers)? Or, rather, should we give the lion's share of the credit to Billick or Ozzie?

I'm assuming Billick has always had the final say on which QB he was going to start. Not sure I'd go that far with regards to MM/Losman...

Billick inherited Jonathan Ogden. Mularkey inherited Mike Williams. Now that's not fair.

Okay, I'll admit I dug up those various factoids just so I could play devil's advocate. To be serious for a second, though, a significant part of that Super Bowl-winning defense was already in place before Billick's arrival in Ballamore.

    544573

'sokay. I was being Devil's Advocate too, since I would be surprised if the Bills can lure a proven coach better than Mularkey next year. Last year, we were all singing the praises of Mularkey for getting the team in the playoff race and stressed out early this year when Clements was a head coaching candidate at ND. Frankly, unless some proven stud comes along and wants to coach the Bills (unlikely), I can live with MM for another season. His play-calling is questionable at times, but he's got a terrible O-line, an RB of questionable heart, and a QB controversy. He handled the Moulds' situation well--benched a guy who refused to play and didn't talk to the media about it. He handled the Sam Adams sitaution well--benched a guy who refused to play his position correctly and didn't talk to the media about it. He's not a total dud. He's just an inexperienced coach with a mediocre team.

  7. Five former #1 or #2 picks start on offense for Baltimore, seven on defense (not counting Ray Lewis). Counting Losman and Mike Williams along with Moulds/Evans/McGahee gives us five on offense, six on defense (when Sam Adams starts, and not counting TKO).

We lost TKO in the third game of the season. They lost Lewis in the sixth game of the season.

To be clear, those are first and second round picks, not #1 and #2 picks--I know that's what you meant, but my eyes bugged out when I saw that. And depending on the GM's ability to measure talent, that people were drafted in the first round is not necessarily the best measure of talent. See Eric Flowers.

We have a first-round pick at QB who, after starting 8 games in his second season, has a lifetime QB rating of 63.5.

They have a first-round pick at QB who, after starting 33 games in 3 seasons, has a lifetime QB rating of 70.6.

That's coaching for you. We also have a QB with a 92 rating, an almost 70% completion rate, and a winning record, but he hasn't been the starter most of the season. The Bills might not be a playoff team with Holcomb as starter, but they'd probably be better than 5-9.

And Billick is a genius, and Mularkey (according to many here) is an idiot.

Billick has been to the playoffs 3 times since 2000 and won a Superbowl in that time. Seems like that evaluation is fair.

  8. I think this was covered pretty well on the other board, but it doesn't violate free speech to tell a fan he can't have or show a sign in a private establishment such as RW Stadium. That being said, people from the County Executive to many in the general public don't get it; they're still talking about restricting people from showing signs as violating the Constitution. Do Buffalo public schools still teach something about the Constitution? Or is that something they can only teach in private schools?

    My Webpage

  9. ANyone who votes for someone who votes against the Patriot Act is just uninformed. We have to get those people out of Congress, so they don't further try to damage our country.

Without the Patriot act, the CIA and FBI become completely separate entities, and cannot coordinate their efforts to protect us from attacks. This will enable 9/11 to happen again- maybe this is what the people voting against the act are hoping for.

    543727

I don't think any reasonable Dem or Rep would argue that the FBI and CIA shouldn't information share; what they are mostly protesting is the expansion of the powers of the agencies at the cost of civil liberties.

If you will, you can be for information sharing, and against the Patriot Act II. If it didn't pass in its current state, it would pass in some form.

  10. Federal spending growing by 5% is small potatoes, the real scary fact from this story is:

    This is !@#$ing crazy...

    543948

At the state level, it's even worse.

The spending on things like highway improvement and NASA is meager compared to the social support system (I could probably even stomach the safety net situations!) provided by the government.

You want a solution: start cutting off the milk flowing through the tit. Just that. The frustration is that people don't place a priority on cutting spending.

  11. Sounds like one of the outtakes from Life of Brian.  :D

Just a guess...but I'd bet doves were a big deal in Jewish custom of the time, given the prominent role the dove has in Genesis.

    543566

People sacrificed the doves in the Temple. Strangely, my basis for this is Anne Rice's new book "Christ the Lord." In it, the boy Jesus sacrifices a dove at the Temple in Jerusalem.

As an aside, only the 12th in this thread, the book was pretty good. Rice wrote this book from the first person... that person being Jesus. Pretty bold. But she's eschewed her wierdness (her old mixes of the occult, homosexuality, and erotica) and writes a truly compassionate story of a possible boyhood of Jesus. I expected barbs and heresy. There was none that I found.

  12. unless VA was referred to as "their" i think you are wrong on this one.

    543394

    Here's what I said.

He was using those wacko's own literature (the Bible) to point out an inherent contradiction in their [the Army of God freaks'] thinking. Mickey doesn't have to buy their logic to do that; he's just noting the inconsistency in their own thinking.

I injected the brackets to be clear. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that Mickey was both refuting VABills and the Army of God folks. Either way, in no instance did I refer to the Bible as wacko. It's the Army of God people that are seriously messed up, and VABills is moderately so.

As to your high moral ground a few posts ago calling me one of the board intellectuals who feel free to insult the Bible, get off your high horse: I don't disparage the Bible. You know little if anything about my spiritual life so stop this moral superiority BS.

  13. don't go pulling scripture out of the Bible when it fits your argument....but reject the rest of it when it doesn't fit your position.

    543336

What Mickey did is actually fundamental logic. He was using those wacko's own literature (the Bible) to point out an inherent contradiction in their thinking. Mickey doesn't have to buy their logic to do that; he's just noting the inconsistency in their own thinking.

  14. Anyone see when Tedy Bruschi was injured last night?  They helped him to the sidelines and then ABC had their usual sideline camera focus in on the trainer messing around with Bruschi's leg.  A typical shot you see many times during an NFL game.  Of course New England sends one of their little sideline gopher boys to do everything in his power to block the camera with his hands and a towel.  The kid looked stupid trying feebily to block the camera.  Anyway, it struck me as being so ridiculous and make no mistake.... that was a direct order from Belichick to try to stop and control the media from filming/reporting an injury.  And to think some of you guys get uptight when Mularkey is vague about an injury or a starter?  Genius Bill takes it to new levels every week.
