  1. i think they have been trying to get rid of Wallace ever since he quit on the team last season and has that ridiculous contract. The acquisition of Stills allowed them to make the the move. But it was reported that because of bonus acceleration, the Wallace trade only saved $2.2M on this year's cap. Not even 1/3 of Clay. I think the move was more to help them sign some tier 2 or 3 FAs and their draft picks. They could still extend Clay if he is committed to staying and will take a discount but my guess he could get a lot more from another team.

But Clay is already accounted for this year with the transition tag. If anything a long term contract will give them more cap space and if they do not match the get 7+M cap space back.
  2. Why would you exchange offers with the ream you are trying to sign that player away from?

    CBF

I think the offers are going though Clay and his agent. This just might be twitter word limit that makes wording unclear. Clay's agent could say we just got this from Miami without signing Bills offer and Bills then counteroffer. Thsi could go on until he signs one.

  3.

that's your opinion. but I must say - Sorry that you disagree with the majority on this.

If they add a FA QB, look at them they are not great, they will have a QB comp in camp. If it is a tie EJ wins and has a short leash. Run first pass second with QB on move, seems like what SF and Seattle do. They still need to shore up the OL with at least 1 more possibly 2 more additions, depends on Henderson e v a l'ed.

If they trade for a QB that is a different scenario.(Now that that got Cassel no it is the same as above, camp comp)

  4. I'll state again that this makes no sense to me.

It'd cost us money to cut him, vs keep him on the roster as our 2nd or 3rd string QB. The talent pool available to us at QB is not much better than EJ, so why would we spend money to get rid of him and replace him with the same talent level? If he gets cut, there's something else at play behind the scenes, imo.

I can see us grabbing a couple of the mid level guys and having them all battle it out in training camp, and maybe EJ loses, and then gets cut... but right at the beginning of free agency? Nope. Don't buy it.

And this is all assuming that EJ is terrible, when in fact, he's pretty average when it comes to starting NFL rookie QBs, I still think he's played well enough in his young career, to deserve a chance at development.

The only way this makes sense is if we trade for a true starter. But then the whole McCown thing makes no sense, why would he want to be here if he cannot compete for the starter role. So I agree this does not make much sense.

  5. :blink:I am pretty sure the Rams don't want to pay a bench warmer $12,985,000 in base salary with a cap hit of $16,580,000 and would be more than happy to dump his salary

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/st.-louis-rams/cap/

who's dumb I mean desperate enough to pay that money?

    please don't say Buffalo

I do not think they think he is a bench warmer. I believe their thinking is he gets hurt again and have to take a cap hit of $16,580,000. If he can stay healthy, and that is a HUGE if, he is the starter there and they have a good chance at the playoffs. Same would be true for us, but the HUGE if is always the devil in the details.

  6. The problem with these answers is that there is nothing concrete. Which FA QA do you think will take this team to the playoffs.

I do not think any of the FA QB's are the answer for anything but backup. I think it needs to be trade and that is the big unknown. If it is EJ and some FA QB I think it will be a season much like this one, close but not quite there...

  7. orton has never been anything better than a backup and he showed us why. I don't love everything about the offense but giving him wide open attempts into the endzone and him flat out missing WRs is his fault, no one was suffocating him

Actually better then the average backup. Most teams would be happy with .500 record from a backup and Orton gave us 7-5. We just did not have a real starter at QB this year.

2014 can be a real stepping stone and Marrone was a big factor in that. He really helped bring this team together. I hope he comes back and they really address the Offense like they did Special Teams last off season.

  8. Exactly. HOW did you get to 9-7 this year? Lots of indicators suggest that this record is the top floor, not a step on the staircase. If you saw lots of promising things that will benefit from more time, then great, but if you saw big problems that could sabatoge any progress, then not so great.

Clearly this is not a team that just needs a year to get better. But we are solid in 2 phases, Defense and Special Teams. We have to sign Hughes and Searcy on D and that unit should get better next year. Now for the Bills to get the next step the Offense needs serious upgrade, even more then the special teams did last year. I think we need 3 or 4 new offensive linemen for starters and depth. The free agents for QB are dreadful and a rookie QB will not get us to the next level next year so the route here has to be trade. There are several QB's that are unhappy with their situation that could be had for a trade. The goal is to get an average QB here. Finally we need to upgrade the running game, this could be done via draft. If we made those changes and had the same receivers I believe that we could take the next step. If we get another Chris Williams for the OL and a FA QB we could have another year like this, win some we would not expect, lose some we should not have.

  9. I hope he stays one more year also. As good as this defense is we did have a few bad games in the beginning of the year, San Diego and New England. The defense is playing lights out the second half of the season, they got adjusted to the system. If we get another DC with a slightly different system we may have the same thing happen, be good not great in first half. With Schwartz I would like to see us on the same page from week 1.

  10. I think Orton is a bridge. A bridge to Manuel? Not sure. A few upgrades on the O-Line and keep the D intact we can be a playoff team, 10-6 type of team with Orton. Will have trouble beating teams with good D and great O. That is the first step, the playoffs. After that we have to win in the playoffs and Orton is not the QB to do that. So my question is who does he bridge to and how long will it be?

  11. Gilmore could have been a real goat there. The one time he doesn't give a guy a 10-Yd cushion is with 8 seconds left in the half?

I do not think that was on Gilmore. From the replay it clearly looked like Gilmore was expecting help deep and he was playing underneath. Marrone called timeout and saved the Jets from delay of game and then the defense rushed 3 and had everyone else way back.
