  1. When I lived and worked in Philadelphia, I worked for an inner city agency that needed funding to expand programs.

I have a close friend( college roommate) who works with the NFL. He arranged for Dick Vermeil to come out to the club.( to facilitate help)

Vermeil was very involved in the community and of course connected to power brokers.

He was incredibly personable, approachable, and interested in what we were doing-

he took time to talk to the kids(as human beings that mattered) in in the program who were benefitting from the agencies efforts and sought to help us...in a geniune. humble way.

    Class act through and through.

As coach, Vermeil like so many others(Marrone) ,preached that the team was family while they were playing for him-

the difference between Vermeil and others is- he really meant it, lived it and his belief in this "family" credo extended to these players long after the cheering stopped.

It reminds me of the role Jack Kemp played for the old AFL Bills teams. he facilitated the help of so many Bills players, times the public heard about and so many more times when no one knew.

It's something to think about as we go through the hiring process, this credo that a guy like Vermeil inprints on an organization.

There are many hired guns, quick fix guys you can hire.....who are in it for themselves( Marrone,etc.).

.How great would it be to hire men who will reinstitute this sense of "family" of "brotherhood" while also striving for excellence on the field.

    I think it matters....

  2. I'll give one example:

    1.5 g x 4 y ≠ Prone.

 There you go. For the record, whether Hackett had his hams strung or not, he needs to go. We need a whole new offensive staff in here, and a veteran QB to fight it out with EJ, and a rookie development guy to re-Tuel.

As I figured, it was way too much for you to comprehend.

  3. So you're saying he missed two games in four years and he's injury prone. Got it, doc.

In 2011 I think they played 13 games (9-4) and he played in 12 btw, so he missed one game and maybe part of another.

I was giving you a few examples,

with your weak reading comprehension skills, I didn't want to lose you.

Between the injuries he had in college that he played through and ones he missed time with-

adding his numerous injuries already in his short career with the Bills. The injury prone label sticks.

  4. They also made an understandable but ultimately dumb decision in the off season to tell him not to run. That hurt him in a lot of ways. Yes, he got injured three different times in his rookie season, but he was never injury prone before, and you could see what happened each time. If he was going to be a good QB in this league he had to be able to run, even though he was never a "running QB" per se even in college. By drilling it into him not to run, and all but eliminating the zone read kind of plays where he is a threat to run, and totally limiting his rollouts where he can easier avoid the rush, it hurt his progress.

In retrospect it was a mistake, like a lot of others. Again, at first blush it is understandable because of the injuries. But this isn't RGIII we're talking about. He's not slender or frail. And if he turned out to be, he's going to be out of the league in a year anyway. They should have just coached him to be a little smarter, but still be yourself.

EJ Manuel was not injury prone before?

I guess you missed his college career…

    Short summary-

2009- Missed spring practice after breaking his index finger on the first play.

Played through a tear in his right shoulder all season and had surgery in the spring.

2010- Sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder-missed 2 games. Fractured his left leg during the bowl game that year-but continued playing.

    Scouting Report:

Durability is a legitimate concern- has a big frame that has taken a lot of punishment over the years and has been forced to miss considerable time.

Add his numerous injuries with the Bills – yes, he has to be considered injury prone.

  5. Per Rotoworld:

A source informed John Middlekauff of 957 The Game Bay area that-

Mike Shanahan could be hired as the Bills' general manager with Browns OC Kyle Shanahan as head coach.

We're sorry, Bills fans. This would be brutal. Bills in-name GM Doug Whaley was reported to be leading the search for a new head coach, but it's now been revealed new owner Terry Pegula is conducting interviews. The Bills have requested interviews with as many as 13 head-coaching candidates. The Shanahan duo wouldn't be awful in a head coach-offensive coordinator tandem, but allowing them to make all personnel decisions would be taking a huge leap of faith.

  6.

You wanted him to go into hurry up mode with that lot? Ultimately he came up with a gameplan that was a little conservative but given his lack of weapons and his Quarterback's propensity to lose his team games on his own in the play-offs it made sense. They just didn't make enough plays. Sanu dropped everything thrown his way and that Bengals defense misses Mike Zimmer badly.

    Agreed. Great summary.

    Case closed.

  7. Not very impressed with Hue Jackson's game plan today. He needed to make some adjustments for the playoffs and all I am seeing is same old from regular season. He should have some sets where Bernard and Hill are on the field at the same time. These are two of the best offensive weapons and with AJ Green out, they need offensive weapons on the field.

Agreed this might not be Hue Jackson's finest moment.

But in his defense they are missing:

    1. AJ Green- Superstar Receiver---TOP 5 in the NFL

    2. Marvin Jones- their 2nd most talented WR

    3. Tyler Eifert-talented TE

4- Jerome Gresham- Their starting TE

The best receiver on the field for the Bengals is Sanu and I think he led the NFL in drops this year...he is not very good

and did I mention yet that their QB is Andy freakin Dalton???

  8. Not a surprised that Gase and Bevell are favorites on this board over Jackson.

Did Gase work wonders with Manning? Really? Manning might be the last player in NFL history that needs to be "coached up"

Bevell? Flavor of the month. Farve was kind of good without him don't you think? Also, he didn't discover Russell Wilson, thank you. Wilson

carried himself and played like a 10 year vet when he walked into training camp his first year. Look it up.

Jackson is tough, has leadership, is innovative, and maximizes his players performance everywhere he goes. I much prefer him.

Jackson's candidacy reminds me a bit of Arians before he was hired by the Cardinals.

He appears to be able to hold players accountable and can command a team, something some of these other candidates...well... I'd be shocked if they were able to do.

    Just my 2 cents.

  9. Funny you should ask.

Whaley learned the game from a Steeler icon, Bill Nunn, who passed away last year. What Nunn told Whaley was "Do not ever, ever be afraid to make a big move if you believe in it strongly."

    http://mmqb.si.com/2...ns-gutsy-trade/

Even better than making a big move is making a big move and having it be the right move.

From following football the NFL since the 1970's-

the trade for Watkins and trades for Bryce Brown and Mike Williams(both with character concerns) do not epitomize the Steeler way.

  10. I highly doubt it. Whaley is building a team, modeled after the Steelers where he was groomed. That's what the Pegulas want. Marrone was power hungry. They took offense to that. That's why the report today was Whaley won the power struggle. His philosophies won out. Marrone threw a hissy fit and quit.

What part of Whaley trading for Sammy Watkins epitomized the Steeler way? Just saying....

  11. Right now we do not know what the job is that Polian will take. If it is Football Czar, and President, he will let his GM make these decisions. There is no way Polian is going back to doing GM duties. He hasn't done it for years and years. He didn't make the decisions the last few years he was running the Colts. I think you're sadly misinformed about how these things work. One of the reasons, if not THE main reason that Marrone is gone today is because he wanted to infringe on the GM job, and have a bigger say in the roster and these kinds of decisions. That was the power play. And he lost.

Actually I am not misinformed on how these things work.

Assuming you are correct then- if Polian was here when Whaley made his "aggressive" trade up for Sammy Watkins and felt very strongly that the moved shouldn't be made-Whaley would be able to still pull the trigger?

    LMFAO ......you can't be serious......

  12. I doubt it will be Polian's call.

It's going to be a combination of Whaley, Polian, the new HC and new OC discussing pros and cons of 20 different guys, along with phone calls with GMs of other teams and agents, with Whaley the one making the final call.

    Kelly:

Bill Polian is a five time NFL Executive of The Year and is a lock to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

There is NO way Whaley will be making the final calls in the football department, especially as it relates to BIG IMPORTANT ones.
