1. I like the Bills winning in Oakland. I think Willis gets it done and the other Kelly breaks 200 yards and throws a couple of td's. Oakland keeps it close as the Bills have difficulty with Lamont Jordan but the passing d is all over Kerry Collins and gets a few picks (especially if Moss is out). Bills win 20-17.

BTW Oakland is ranked 10th in the afc against the run and 15th against the pass (14th in overall defense in the afc according to nfl.com)

Now New England the week after...let's talk after the Raider game. :(

  2. LOL!  The Bills were "embarrassed?"  If not for the zebras missing Travis scoring a TD on a 2nd effort and Mularkey not challenging it, the Bills would have won that game.

    480001

And remember that game was in the pre-Willis days.

I also remember Drew getting sacked a lot (go figure) and some bad penalties on special teams.

I see the Bills winning a close game this week - Rian Lindell winning field goal perhaps?

  3. Seemed to be several "semi-big" ones.

Rattay from San Fran to TB for draft pick.  - I don't know why TB needs another QB

Fish trade Feely and 7th rounder for Cleo Lemon.  - Who the hell is Cleo Lemon?  And didn't the fish get Feeley last year for a 2nd?  Wow, he sure has gone down in value.

Chargers trade Tony Finoii to the Sex Party (Minny) for a late round draft pick.  ??? Again who and why

    479969

I guess SD wants Feely to back up Brees. Wonder where Phillip Rivers ends up next year?

  4. I agree.  Back in the Kelly years, I would wear his jersey proudly into the Meadowlands.  Now mind you, I would not say a single word the entire game, and I pretty much kept my ass in the seat regardless of what happened, but let me tell you, it was still a pretty rough experience.  Just walking through the parking lot was an adventure.  I've wised up and now go to the game wearing as little red and blue as possible and still keep my yap shut.  It's called self-preservation.

    479363

Agreed - I've gone to Bills games in the swamp since the super bowl years. You're in someone else's house and if you wanna act like an a$$ you're just increasing the odds of getting into a scuffle.

BTW I was fortunate enough to end up with seats between the 20 yard lines and usually close to the field through my job. I wouldn't have bothered to go if I was getting seats up in the bleeds with the mental patients.

  5. Jets have a ton of games at 4pm due to the Giants always playing at 1...

    479388

Yeah that is true but but with the Giants playing the afc west and the nfc west this season the nfl could have used a little more foresight. I thought I had read somewhere that Ralph had requested 1 pm starts. If you still have to throw in a 4 pm start make it against a non division opponent (i.e. Panthers, Falcons, etc.)

  6. What is the attraction  for getting sh-- faced at the game? When I had season tickets (86-94) I would have one or two drinks before the game and maybe one after.  I went to see the game, not get drunk.  I sat at the goal line on the Bills side. There were no fights in season ticket territory.

How many of the people arrested or thrown out were UB students or from NYC? I remember in the 70s and 80s the Jets games had the most fighting because of all the Long Islanders in the stands.

    479131

Hey - I'm from LI and I'm not into that crap!!!

Seriously, it was piss poor planning on the part of the nfl to put a division matchup with the Jets as a 4pm start. That game is always a little more "spirited" than most of the others to begin with.

  7. Thanks, I will absolutely look into that for next seasons.

    479337

I can second the recommendation for the family zone seats. I share a pair with a friend, he's able to bring his wife or kids to a few games and I'm able to bring my wife, 9 year old or 12 year old daughter to a game or two without having to explain away some idiots' behavior.

We decided to go for season tickets after getting tired of sitting next to a-holes for too many years. I enjoy tailgating and having a few beers as much as the next guy but I never understood the appeal of getting blind drunk, acting like an a$$clown and not even remembering the game. If you want to go to the game and drink a little more than you should: 1. make sure someone else is driving you home; 2. show a little respect for the people around you and 3. don't give Bills fans a bad name with dumb ass behavior. This isn't some old guy being pc - this is just common sense.

BTW - the family zone seasons are the next best buy after the rockpile seats - only $320 a seat for the season.

  8. Maybe you are right SIC, but they lost 2 qbs and their current one will soon be 42. Their backup rb is out for a few weeks, they lost their pro-bowl center for the season, their best DE is injury prone and their coach is sub-par.

Next year, they are said to be 28 million over the cap.

I am thinking that things appear to be pretty bleak in New Jersey.  :D

    478259

Blaylock is actually out 6-8 weeks if not the season last I heard. Ty Law got dinged up and is consistently getting flags thrown against him for his illegal contact. John Abraham will probably take December off so he doesn't risk his shot at a big pay day.

It's days like these when it's real good to be a Bills fan down in Jets land.

  9. did anyone see the play where Milloy was sent on a blitz of the left edge and before he could even make it to the line of scrimmage the TE Baker released and knocked milloy on his ass, it was funny because it seemed like baker wasnt even paying attention and the contact with milloy was nothing.

    478410

Milloy got even later in the game. He nailed McCairns by the sideline after a reception and the guy had to take the next play off, it looked like his eyes were rolling. Troy Vincent on the other hand hits like a girl. I used to love when Kurt Shultx would nail someone when he was our free safety.

BTW definite props to Aiken for his block on Fast Freddie's td and to Reed for blocking on Mould's td. That was some textbook stuff (especially Reed's block).

  10. If it's up to me, I prefer Thurman's "celebration" -- hand the ball to the ref like "yo, what's up dude, it's just me again."

But people celebrate in different ways.  I don't much care for Willis' horse-riding antics, and I have to admit I cringed when Biscuit or Bruce did their sack dances, but hey, that's them.  As long as it doesn't draw a taunting penalty by being directed at an opposing player, let them do what they want.

I have a lot less respect for the Alvin Harper types who celebrate a mundane catch at the 45-yard-line as if they just scored the game-winning TD, though.

    477941

With regards to Willis I prefer the Lambeau leap (Ralph romps?) into the end zone crowd as opposed to his little pony ride. That being said I will always prefer a player like Thurman who tosses the ball to the ref - I never got tired of seeing that.

I saw an Alvin Harper like celebration in the Texans game last nite when one of the Texans sacked Hasselback and started doing a dance - and his team is down 28 -10 at the time (35-10 a few plays later). What a tool.

  11. I'm still waiting for a flag for holding on pass protection.  I watched the game for 5 minutes and I saw an arm almost pulled from its socket and a full tackle which boardered on a clip go unnoticed by refs 2 yards from the action.  The officiating reminds of the NBA where the 'stars' get away with murder and the rooks get penalized for dirty looks.

    478495

I think it was the play before - it looked like the center or guard tackled the defensive tackle. No flag and no replay on tv. The funny thing with the intentional grounding was that it took forever for the ref to throw the flag. It was almost as if they finally realized they were in Denver and they had to throw the flag for intentional grounding or they wouldn't get out of the stadium alive.

As far as the other face of the league, that call against New Orleans giving Atlanta a second shot at the fg was total bs. Haslett was right to call it a chickensh-- call in his press conference. I guess the league can't have the great Ron Mexico losing to the Saints (talk about a team that has just gotten screwed this year...)

  12. It also bears stating that being unhappy with Lindell last year and happy with him this year is NOT something one ought to apologize for, nor does it make you a bad fan or fair weather or whatever.

It's absolutely justified to have been displeased with Lindell last year because he was not playing at nearly the same level. Last year, Lindell was ridiculously inconsistent and sometimes would miss FGs that were chip shots. That deserved some raggin'.

This year, Lindell is playing great. He's hitting kicks he should make, plus kicks you wouldn't expect him to. This deserves praise.

There hasn't been any in this thread, I'm just saying that there's nothing worse than a "oh, you're all stupid for not liking Lindell last year" post (equally as bad as "let's run this player out of town after a single bad game") when, in reality, Lindell did not deserve to be liked last year. This year he does.

And we're all happy it's turned out this way.

    477448

I think Lindell originally made my **** list back in 2003 when he missed those two field goals in the 12-10 loss to the Texans.

I'm just happy he's now doing the job the Bills need him to do because they need a dependable kicker. The Bills are not going to blow too many teams out so hopefully he can make a difference in the tight games.

  13. Just wanted to take a moment to reflect on a rare great day for Bills fans.

    -BILLS WIN!

    -JETS Lose

    -PATS Lose

    -DOLPHINS Lose

Not too often we get one of those.  Enjoy it!!

    Go Bills!

    477426

And even better for us non Sunday ticket viewers in the NYC area: CBS showed the Bucs-Dolphins game, then the Bills-Jets game and then went to the end of the Patriots-Broncos game. Good stuff.

  14. Lindell has been money - no doubt about that (and I was one of the Bills backers not too happy with him after last year)

I'd say Willis has been the offensive mvp but my favorite Bill this year has been Terrence McGee. He's stepping up on defense (big pick against the Fish last week) and has again been a return demon this year. As much as the end of that return in San Antonio pi$$ed me off I hadn't seen a run back like that since that Dante Hall runback against Denver a few years ago. I see him taking one back to the house in the next two weeks - I would love to see one against the Pats to start the game.

  15. Two favorite Bills/Jets games that I went to (both at the Meadowlands):

1995 - Bills win 28-26 when Thomas Smith knocks down the pass for the two point conversion that would have tied it. The Jets had just scored on a hail mary with no time left.

2001 - 2nd to last game of the awful 3-13 season under Gregg-o, the Bills beat the Jets 14-9 in the Meadowlands when Vinnie passes underneath to Curtis Martin in the red zone with no timeouts left in the fourth quarter. Time runs out, Bills win and I'm surrounded by 75,000 unhappy Jets fans.

Let's hope Vinnie has a couple of brain freezes tomorrow.

  16. Last time I checked that was usually a good indication of the best receivers.  Oh I know all those years we had Lofton, Reed, Tasker, and Beebe, Al Edwards was really our best receiver.

Or hey maybe Billy Brooks.  After all he was the leading receiver for 3 years.

    476245

Don't forget 93 when Metzellars was better than Andre Reed....

    :(

  17. Boomer ain't been right in the head ever since Bruce got to him.

    475968

LOL - I was at that game and it was one of those plays where you were screaming and going crazy and then you realize the QB isn't moving. I thought Bruce killed old lefty....

As far as some of the other posters who think the Jets have a better running game, take a look at the numbers. Martin has hit that dreaded running back wall (plus his line is not getting the job done). Second they lost Lamont Jordan to Oak and replace him with Blaylock from KC who they overpaid and who is now hurt and may miss the rest of the season.

Last year the Jets had a better running game with Martin and Jordan. The Bills are head and shoulders above them this year.

  18. Come on.  Resent him for the big money he makes, but what real evidence is there that he is soft?  IMHO.....

Big Money + Car accident + Grandma dies + non-Pro=Bowler does not = soft.

    475472

Big Money (and great expectations for a #4 overall pick ) + (Dumb a$$) Car accident + Grandma dies (unfortunately everybody expects a Favre like performance when a family member dies) + (lack of ) Pro Bowl seasons does not = soft (but it does equal disappointing).

  19. Hes got to have some talent right?

    475483

Here's some info from the Scottish Claymores (NFL Europe) web sight. He was probably allocated to them his first year out of college:

Let's hope he learned something from his brother over the years.

  20. No, not Jonathon Ogden but his brother Marques. <_<

    From today's Buffalo News:

The Bills added offensive guard Marques Ogden to their practice squad and released Evan Oglesby from that eight-man unit. Ogden is the younger brother of Ravens Pro Bowler Jonathan Ogden. Marques Ogden was drafted in the sixth round in 2002 by Jacksonville. He spent 2003 on the Ravens' active roster and 2004 on the Ravens' practice squad. He's a 6-5, 336-pounder from Howard University.

  21. Here comes Lauvale !!!!! Forget about Losman & Holcomb - just got this breaking news from a buffalobills.com e-mail:

Lauvale Sape, who has been inactive for the first four weeks of the season, will likely be activated in Ron Edwards' absence this week against the Miami Dolphins. Born in American Somoa, Sape resides in Leilehua, Hawaii during the off-season. Here’s your chance to email Sape. His responses will be posted on Saturday afternoon.

    Ask Lauvale Sape a Question:

    http://buffalobills.com/fans/InsidetheHerd.jsp

In all seriousness, I'm glad to see Sape get a shot. Edwards has been a disappointment for a long time. Let's hope Lauvale takes advantage of his opportunity.

  22. LA is right. When Ralph no longer owns the team, the team will have to move. Then I have to just stop watching football.

Honestly, I agree with that Wilson is not very good at picking or keeping good GMs. But what are our options? If he sells, we lose the team. If he keeps it, we suck. I guess I'd rather watch a lousy team than not watch a team at all.

For those of you who think a new owner might keep the team in Buffalo -- just for a reality check, look into how the economy is doing in Buffalo. Then go check out the economy is the Mid-Atlantic, the South, and the West.

    468899

Flaws and all we should be thankful for Ralph. He kept the team in Buffalo when he's had the opportunity to move if he chose. He didn't hold a gun to NY State for a brand new stadium and instead renovated Rich Stadium. For those of you who don't think that's such a big deal, the majority of nfl owners would have issued a new stadium or I'm moving ultimatum and we wouldn't be watching the Bills right now.

Finally, I get sick to my stomach seeing rich boy a$$clowns like Bob Kraft, Jerry Jones, Daniel Snyder, et al on the sidelines and in the news. These are not good people.
