1. It's about equally effed up. Like my brother who was in AF Raven Team in a C-130 whose landing gears wouldn't deploy. The pilot turned circles for a hour while the crew cranked the manual override/release and that didn't work either. Rosen landing in "a place we shouldn't have been." Survived b/c the pilot was good and extremely lucky.

Point being that taxpayers spend a billion dollars on a plane; maybe something should actually work when they use it. If you're on the plane and the landing gears don't work and they tell you to go anyway, do you?

Your story points out a scenario where they find out afterwards that there is a mechanical problem with the landing gear, but you are asking me to answer a question where I know there is a problem beforehand? :w00t:

    Nice try.

It must be nice to live in a fantasy world, where everyone gets everything they want, regardless of practicality.

  2. Why do you find it ironic?  he wants to raise taxes on businesses who will then have to cutback employees as they have less capital.

If he gets into office you will see 1 million plus people out of work within a year because of the tax and spend.  While Bush has spent more then he has taken in, Kerry will as well, but that is even with more tax money coming in.

Those greedy businesses only think about profits. They do not realize that they are in business for the common good of the employees. :w00t:

We need to tax them more, so that we can provide more unemployment benefits for the people losing their jobs, due to the raising of business taxes. ;)

  3. The point being, of course, that the objective is to not put your troops in such a place where courage beyond courage is the strongest or only weapon they have. It makes for spine-tingling and proud stories and examples, but in the course of human history, it's also made for a lot of dead soldiers.

    74160

Yeah. Putting troops in a war zone. F'ing military people can't do anything right.

Now, do you want to go into detail on how this operation is any different from any other military operation, regarding convoy security?

  4. He admitted in his speech Saturday that the tax cuts on rich, businesses, and any other tax cuts would not be enough.

So he says he estimates he will have to layoff about 100,000 government employees and contractors to help fund it as well.

So someone explain to me, how laying off 100,000 people helps?  Sure more money immediately, but now they need healthcare, unemployment, etc...  Plus he will have even more people out of work.  Way to go Johnny, let's screw even more people.

    74109

You just need to hit the "rich" up for more money. They can afford it, so stick them with the bill. :w00t:

As far as Kerry, I guess now people are finally starting to realize that there is no way Kerry can keep his promises. Edwards has already stated that they will need to cut back on everything that they have promised, due to a shortage of funds.

Reality is setting in. People will still vote for him because they are incapable of asking the obvious question "Kerry is promising all of these wonderful government programs, but how the hell is he going to pay for everything without raising taxes?" Now we know, by cutting the very programs he is promising to the American people just to get their votes.

  5. I want to convert a bunch (hundreds...) of negatives into digital images.  I looked online and there aren't very many services that do this for cheap apparantly.  I found one place that charged roughly 70 cents for EACH negative (not each strip!).

I figured with the price of converting them to digital images, I might as well look at buying my own film scanner.  Anyone have any experience with any of them?  B&H sells some that range from roughly $700 to $1500 (at least, that's the price range I would consider).  Hope someone can help.

If you can wait until tomorrow, I will look through my photo magazines for reviews of scanners. Do you just want negative scanning, or are you looking at slides/transparencies as well? If transparancies, how large are the transparencies?

I agree with your assessment of the flatbed scanners. They are fine for prints, but not for negatives/slides. Stick with a dedicated scanner for negatives/slides/transparencies.

  6. How much do they charge?

I found a few places online that convert negatives to digital, but they charge between 50 cents and $1 for EACH FRAME.  With the amount of film I want to convert, I'd be better off buying my own film scanner I think.  I started a thread in the consumer forums:

Well, it has been a little while, but I remember costs being in that range.

As you stated, if you are doing a lot of this, it would be better to get your own scanner. If you want recommendations, I can look through my photo magazines for reviews.

  7. Rush Limbaugh (instant credibility with the libs  ) mentioned on the show today that Bush is pulling ahead in the Zogby poll and that Zogby credits his momentum to the 18-29 demographic.  In response, Kerry came out today and claimed that if Bush is re-elected he will reinstitute the draft.

    71299

The sad part is, is that idiots are actually buying into the crap that Bush wants to reinstitute the draft. Who was the one proposing the legislation in Congress, to reinstitute the draft? (Hint: they have a D after their name)

  8. When will people open their eye's :w00t:

    71257

Don't worry. If Kerry were to be elected, he will just blame it on the Republican Congress. He is good at blaming others for his mistakes. (Funny, that is one of the same criticisms liberals have of Bush. It is also funny, that they do not seem to have a problem when it involves their candidate, just when it is the opposing candidate. Ironic.)

  9. Speaking to those same angry, bitter and nasty people (you know who you are), don't you get called a complete !@#$ in your daily life sometimes?  Or do you have respect for other's opinions when you are face to face and not hiding behind a keyboard  ?

    68649

If people put even an ounce of effort into their opinions, then I have respect for them. If they show that they put no effort into their opinions, then their opinions are worthless, because they are not opinions but just regurgitation of someone else’s opinion.

The same rules apply whether I am “behind a keyboard” or face to face.

  10. Um, if he's only been here one day, on what are you basing your assessment of him as pro-Bush?

Oh…..right…...anyone who isn't screaming "Flightsuit", "Nazi" or "Halliburton" at the top of their lungs must be a devoted Rush listener and Bush fanatic.  Brilliant.  :w00t:

    68491

    :P

It is amazing the thought processes that go on with some of these people.

  11. And you know me because you've been here since yesterday  :w00t: ?  Like I said, you have nothing better to say so you attack me.  It doesn't bother me EB, as a matter of fact, I find it amusing  :P .  Have a nice day in your rotten little world with AD  :D .

    68412

As I mentioned in another post, I have been lurking for a while before registering. Of course, that would have required you to actually pay attention, which I know is a stretch for you.

Keep it up, sweetie. I am glad you find your stupidity amuzing. They say, ignorance is bliss, which explains why you are so happy.

  12. You need a friend!  You must be a very lonely, sad, miserable person to spend your day ridiculing everyone.  Your history of posts on this rant board speaks for itself.  8 posts a day talking about government and grammar issues and this is a Bills rant board.  Your the only person who has a history of this with previous posts to prove it.  Too funny!!  :w00t:

    68164

He makes one comment, and you spend several threads continuing to discuss it and attack him. He corrected your grammar. BFD! Now Darin mentioned that you PM'ed him about it, along with you posting several posts about it. Here is a thought: GET OVER IT!! Let it go, and the issue will die, but it is obvious that you are purposely trying to keep it alive. Why? It just shows that you are a petty. miserable person (funny, that is exactly what you are accusing Darin of being). Like I said, get over it and move on.

And Darin, if you correct any spelling or grammar in this post, then :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: .

Maybe both of you need to get a life.

  13. Desperation in my posts?  Where?  You're being delusional.  You can't defend Bush so you attack the poster, typical from some of you on the right.  Why don't you try sticking to the topic at hand instead of resorting to petty insults and namecalling?  Or is that all you can contribute?  Your anger is very telling, could it possibly stem from desperation?

    68227

Weak response. I would expect better, but I have read your posts, and know that you cannot do better.

Why would I defend Bush? Why am I a rightie? I have blasted both sides for the same stupidity. Reading comprehension is obviously not one of your strengths. Take a deep breath, stop foaming at the mouth, and acutally read my posts.

Now, look who is talking about contributing nothing. Next time, look in the mirror. You are nothing more than a political hack, who is incapable of rationally discussing issues. You are just obviously repeating what others tell you.

Now, run along and turn on the boob tube to see what your opinion du jour will be.

  14. I think there are more results that prove it at least can help.  Ask any of the military guys on the board (the government's biggest program) if the government helped them better their lives.

    68077

Can't the same be said about corporations? You are making them out to be nothing but evil (I can relate to that  ), but you are ignoring the good that they do. How much do these corporations contribute to charities, how much time do they donate to helping various causes, etc? Companies are in business to make a profit. Without that profit, you, myself, and most people on this board would not have jobs.

Now look at the government. How many miles of proverbial red-tape must they go through, wasting billions of dollars in administrative costs which have no displayed end benefit, before the end researcher/charity sees any money?

Selling one short, while promoting the other (which has the same flaws) is disingenuous. Both positives and negatives reside in both.
