1. This could mean the end for Milloy unfortunately. Not a great player at this point in his career but still good, and one of the few Bills that really had heart. I still think one of the major factors in the defense crumbling was his injured thumb in the Tampa game. It took him at least six games to really be able to play his game, wrap up runners, and make plays at the line. He couldn't tackle.

Furthermore, in retrospect, TD's failings may have been more that he got some talented players but they ultimately weren't winners. They didn't step up when you needed them most they stepped down. It usually wasn't Milloy missing the play or taking a stupid penalty or leaving his man in crunch time. Yes, he did it once in a while like all other players but he was one of the few winners we had.

End of Vincent too probably. Trade down out of the number 8 spot and stock pile 3rds and 4ths. There are many more holes than people think especially on defense.

  2. For starters he is the best DC available. He worked wonders with a young and injured Pack D last year. Prior to that, he was the reason that Miami's defenses were so damn good all those years. After Wandstadt was fired during the 2004 season he took over as interim HC. They won 3 of their last 6 games including a HUGE win over the Patriots. Quite an accomplishment when you consider the situation the Phins were in last year. Many of the Dolphins players were lobbying for Bates to get the HC job before Saban was hired.

We would be very fortunate to land him.

Top 10 defense every year of the 10 yrs he's coordinated an NFL team. What other coordinator in the league has that accolade?

  3. Don't you usually take the best offensive player out of the game by not letting him on the field? Long ball controlled drives, a healthy does of #21.

You do but against the number 2 run defense in the league is a challenge.

You can also force #21 off the field if you get up on them by two scores. You saw what happened last week with the Chiefs. Larry Johnson had 100 yrds at half time last week but when the Chiefs got down by 2 scores they went to the air. That plays into our defensive strength.

I'm telling you, the San Diego corners are the weakest in the league. Our WR's should eat their lunch downfield, on the sidelines, off the line of scrimmage, etc.

  4. Crystal ball says bring back the K Gun baby!

Fact: San Diego is nearly last in the league against the pass.

Its time for a breakout game for Losman and this O Line.

Mularkey will want to score early and often to force San Diego into their passing game and try and take LT out of the game.

Alot of WR and tight end screens out of Buffalo Sunday also.

    Go Bills!

  5. I don't know what he said this time, but every time I listen to the guy I find it hard to believe he has a national radio show.

Anytime he has a point he wants to make he just makes it and then repeats the same thing over and over and over and over again. Sometimes I play a little game in the car and try to count how many times he says the exact same thing. Sometimes he just says the same thing, other times he just thinks up another example of the same thing. It's pretty much the only way he can fill up the ten minutes of air time before the next SportsCenter update and the endless commercials.

That's called repeating the point - its a debate technique to reinforce that what you are saying is true. He's a very smart guy and his angles are unique.

I couldnt disagree with you more. This guy is one of the most cerebral and on-point radio hosts I've ever heard. Listen to Calherd's show for a week and then try and listen to Jim Rome. Its like the sports radio equivalent of reading Newsweek or Dr. Seuss

  6. If you watch this Defense for two seconds it is glaringly obvious there is a lot of twisting, stunting, and flying around...What is lacking is any semblance of physicality, dicipline, etc...

It looks like he's trying to get it done with Tricks and Mirrors...And he already has a lack of Talent to deal with in my opinion...It's like trying to put out a Forest Fire with a squirt Gun that looks like Hurricane...

Thats true and when you rely on these schemes to bring pressure you lose your ability to bring it in a more simplistic and less obvious way: your front four.

The front four doesnt get enough reps in a four man rush scheme to be good at it.

    Dear Coach Gray: Moderation.

    Sincerely, Bills fan

  7. I don't understand why the coaches don't see this.  Are we going to get more quotes this week from players about them not executing their "gap responsibility"?

Re: Adams - last year was it him, Williams, or both who were complaining that they were unhappy with their role of simply occupying blockers - that they wanted to get upfield and be "disruptive".  It seems with Adams now the whole premise of him occupying blockers has been tossed out the window (perhaps he is one of the people not executing his gap responsibility?).

    484586

Yeah I think so. I love the guy's motor but they need to build a defense around this team's strengths.

  8. I'll be the first to admit, I was one of the many who was in favor in benching Losman for Holcomb.  After watching the last 3 games, I have changed my tune.

The bottom line is this:  What has Kelly Holcomb done to really show that he deserves to start over JP? In my opinion, the only thing he has really done in his three starts that's noteworthy is NOT LOSE GAMES.  To be completely honest, IMHO, I have seen him only make one spectacular throw, and that was to Campbell last week.  His numbers are very modest, and while he may be completing 70 percent of his passes, he's averaging like 160 yards per game. He absolutely cannot throw an accurate pass beyond 15 or 20 yards. In the last 3 games, how many deep balls has he thrown? maybe 4, and each one was horribly missed. From badly underthrowing Moulds, to badly overthrowing Evans and Reed.  He has fumbled a snap or a handoff in each of his 3 starts, and has NO ability to run if the pocket collapses.

This is not a good football team, on either side of the ball. Even if we were to make it into the playoffs, what are the chances of us beating the likes of New England, Indianapolis, Denver, Pittsburgh...slim to none. We need to let JP in there and get his lumps now.

Many people think that we should start Holcomb in the New England game next Sunday. I think that this would be a perfect time to get JP in there. Let him get that game experience playing in the national spotlight. Yes, throw him to the wolves, he's going to have to do it eventually, why not let him get a taste now?

Every game he sits is one more game next year he'll still need for development. This team is going nowhere in the state we're in. Lets let the kid become a man.

    484450

Kind of agree but not really. I do think he needs to get reps but blaming Holcomb for not getting the ball downfield is not really correct. The offensive line did not protect for Holcome at all. You need time to get the play set up for anything deeper than 20 yrds. Our O line is incapable of this type of protection and Losman would suffer behind this line. At least Holcombe gets the ball away quickly.

  9. Seems to me that Milloy and the linebackers fly through these lanes with blitzes much like blockers would fill their gap responsibility on a kickoff. Our guys often take themselves out of plays quickly, especially on runs.

Teams run us between the tackles ALOT, and you can see Posey and Milloy often being taken out of the play when blockers use their forward motion against them and further cast them outside and away from the pocket.

Adams struggles with the zone blitz schemes because he doesnt occupy blockers well. He likes to rush upfield and disrupt things in the backfield. This is all well and good if you make the play.

But when he doesnt, Fletcher is almost always swallowed up by a pulling tackle or fullback and if he doesnt make the tackle on the RB, which happened alot yesterday, the runner is into our second layer and OOPs, Milloy is no where near the play either, he's bull rushing the outside of the play. Anderson will be a good fill in for Adams eventually but I'm afraid he's not athletic enough to play our schemes.

My advise to Jerry Gray - dumb down the defense a little for obvious run situations. We have athletes who can tackle. Then use the zone blitz schemes on obvious passing downs and with less frequency. Teams will run us 80% of their plays until we show we can stop the run.

  10. From the NY Post - Bills got some good news when rookie receiver Roscoe Parrish returned to practice last week sans cast. The second-round pick out of Miami could make his return to the lineup as early as Oct. 16 against the Jets. Parrish, who was unstoppable during Buffalo's training camp, had wrist surgery on Aug. 12. He'll immediately slide right into the Bills' slot-receiver position, which he had all but locked up in camp before getting injured

  11. I have Sunday ticket and live in Orlando. Since Orlando is a Jags secondary market, the local CBS affiliate by NFL rules automatically broadcasts their games and will do so Sunday over the Bills game despite the fact that Orlando's proximity is much closer to Tampa.

The game is a sell out though, and I have Sunday Ticket. Will I still be able to receive the game via the ticket? Cant imagine them blacking the ticket feed out right? Getting nervous :(

    Thanks

  12. I got a Coleman propane stove for Christmas last year and will be putting it to good use this year for some games.

My question is can anybody tell me about how long you get out of one of those small propane cyllinders that they take? I was considering getting the extension hose to hook up to a normal refillable propane tank but wanted to first see if I could get away with using the smaller ones. Thanks!
