I think the general idea is he can save the Bills roster spots down the road. He can be TE3, FB(Gilliam), Andersons jumbo package role, and Special teams. If he can do all that and be cheap, that’s good cost effectiveness down the line
Fingers crossed that he can be a cheaper Knox replacement down the road.
There's a chance he can prove to have decent enough hands to be a good enough outlet receiver. It's not like Knox lit it up in college and lately not much in Pros. IF he can provide good enough play he will replace Knox (next year or so) at a much cheaper rate with Kincaid still being the primary TE receiver.

While I don't expect it, I could see a scenario where Beane uses all 7 picks.
The way I see it, they have open roster spots at WR (lost Cooper and Hollins, signed Palmer), TE (lost Morris), DT (lost Johnson, Jefferson, and Phillips, signed Ogunjobi (suspended) and Drafted Sanders), and Punter (lost Martin, signed a couple cast aways that neither are a given).
So that's 4 (possibly 5 if they want to Draft someone late to hold Ogunjobi's spot).
Then there's positions like LB, where they could want to upgrade depth or at least have competition on Buffalo Joe or Olofoshio. Safety if they want to upgrade depth or have competition for Hamlin or Forrest. A late 6th or 7th flyer on a RB that they might want to try and stash wouldn't surprise me either. And they always tend to throw in a Late Round flyer on an Offensive Lineman as well.
Again, I don't expect him to stand pat at every pick. But it's less crazy than you'd think that he'd use all 7 picks on Day 3. Especially when the last couple picks are in the glorified UDFA, unlikely to make an NFL roster area anyways.
nice post. I forgot about a Punter. yep we'll get one of them too. While we have the best depth of OL that I can remember, BBB does like to draft late rounders and trade away a vet OL late in camp.

I'm in the camp I wanna keep one 5th, but I'm willing to spend 2 to get up near the top of the 4th. I think there are now 3 receivers I'd consider a fit:
Royals
Horton
Thornton
I'd be calling teams tomorrow morning scoping out deals, working out how high I can get in the 4th. And then as soon as one of those 3 comes off the board I'd be trying to pull the trigger.
If the Bills can land one of those guys to add to the 3 pieces so far I'll be really happy with this draft.
Then use the remaining 5th, two 6ths and 7th on the obligatory linebacker, another corner (even possibly a slot guy), a 1T type of DT and either a safety or some sort of STer (whether that is a returner, kicker, punter... whatever).
We're also shy a TE. We have only two currently signed. They still pick back up Quintin Morris or Davidson, but I'm not sure that they're better than TE3 material.
I think WR, S, ST and 1T/LB/TE Which ever guy sticks out.

I only see the old trade up poll. Not a who-do-we-select poll.
My goggles, I mean F5... it does nothing.

I have no Bills Jerseys, but I was seriously considering getting Moorman's. For a while he was our best player.

At the end of the school year last May, the Choir director at my kids' HS invited all the graduating seniors and their families to a luncheon at his beautiful home.
Just found out it burned to the ground.
you need the winds to stop being a B word, so you can encircle it with firebreaks, and douse it repeatedly with ######ant from aircraft to try to keep the heat and flames down. then you just wait, you can't stop it, it can only stop itself when it runs out of fuel.
Biggest need is the winds to stay slow. You can then get a fire under control. You just can't if the winds are high and it's as dry as it is.
We normally get some rainfall in Oct/November/December which ends fire season, but none this (last) year. We'd normally have 3 inches by now, which is a lot in the desert and wets things down. Usually the biggest problem with the Santa Ana winds is the pollen which gets blown in from the desert and sets allergies ablaze. Not houses.

My cousin's house went up. Nothing left. She's just a couple blocks from Altadena and Lake. The Altadena UCC church my eldest was baptized in is gone. Same for St Elizabeth's (the Catholic church nearby) where we'd go for Christmas mass. My aunts house is a few short blocks away. So far, so good for this house, but there's a lot of burning still going on. These two houses were where we spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at. Still feels unreal.

Since I wanted us to low-key lose and deny the pats the #1 draft, it was a fun game to watch. Saw some backups play some decent football. Some good things on tape, some not so good stuff as well. VERY Vanilla.
What really made the game for me was watching Milton. He was playing well and having fun. Has a little of Josh in him. I'd love to have him on our team.

Yea I suppose my frustration is that given the relatively low premium on the safety position the Bills have spent a 2nd round pick, and got better than anticipated play out of a lower end free agent and yet because their skillsets are so similar I kind of feel like they still need to commit more resources to the group there in 2025.
It was definitely a position of need. Like Elam at DB, it means we overpay by a few rounds to get someone with a likely high floor, high ceiling to fill a need. Even if they don't pan out right away, like Bishop & Elam, you still have a good depth player. We also threw a lot of vet spaghetti at the wall to see if any stuck. (we did this with WR too) I think Elam can play well if we need him too. Bishop... probably too young this year for Superbowl aspirations. But like Rapp and Hamlin it can take a year or two in this system.
I'm of the opinion that I don't mind having a handful of these stabs with overpaying. We need quality depth, we need solid starters, we need playmakers. We've gotten all of these. We're 10-2 and have a SOLID backup at every position except QB.

Huh. Well I have my fathers bias of generally rooting for (the upstart) AFC teams over NFC teams. Although I did not get his incomprehensible support for the Oakland Raiders.
Because I hate them. Al Davis was a loathsome creature that unfortunately stayed out from the rock he crawled out from.
I also loathe Jerruh and his "America's team" the Cowboys. Weak-ass team with a pompous owner. Fortunately he and they have sucked since he fired Johnny (and the freebie year of Barry Switzer). While I hate the Philadelphia fans, I have no grudge towards the Eagles. Shrug, it's not their fault.
I usually root for poor Cleveland, but I can't since the Watson signing debacle.
Oh man, I almost forgot the Jets! It's a good thing their name has only 4 letters their fans couldn't spell anything longer.

Could the thought be that in a platoon with Cook (and syphoning some of Josh Allen's attempts) it's less likely these issues rear their ugly head?
Davis already has the college wear and tear, but he's not likely to get the same type of volume that Hall and Etienne have been getting.
The Jets ran the ball 388 times (29th in the NFL) last season - Breece Hall accounted for 223 of those.
About 60% of the carries were Breece Hall. Dalvin Cook had 67 carries, Zach Wilson had 36 and Israel Abinikanda had 22.The Jaguars ran the ball 453 (17th in the NFL) times last season - Etienne accounted for 267 of those.
About 60% of the carries were Travis Etienne. Trevor Lawrence has 70 carries, Tank Bigsby had 50 and D'Ernest Johnson had 41.
The Bills ran the ball 512 times (5th in the NFL) last season - Cook accounted for 237 of those.
About 45% of the carries were James Cook. Josh Allen had 111 carries, Latavius Murray had 79 and Ty Johnson had 30.
For the sake of the exercise, let's say the Bills are able to run the ball over 500 times again next season. At a minimum I would think that Ray Davis assumes the 79 carries that Murray had. I think we would all hope that Josh Allen doesn't carry the ball over 100 times next year - let's say he dips down around the 75 times that Mahomes had to carry the ball last year. That would be another 36 carries. Then maybe he steals a few carries from James Cook as well, another 20?
That puts Ray Davis at approximately 135 carries next year. That seems pretty realistic as to what we can support within the offense.
Nice post!
This shows pretty clearly that they're not interested in running Cook into the ground, and that they're concerned about him making it to the post season. I'm a fan of this. We definitely needed another RB to carry some of that load and only Ty managed to do it productively to my eyes. An injury to Cook would be very bad, so we needed someone who has a chance to shoulder some real burden. I think this kid can do it! I'm excited to watch him this year. His tape looked sudden with nice moves in the open field.
Fingers crossed

Yeah, that QB sprayed the ball all over the place. Really made me cringe. Maybe 1 or 2 in 10 was well placed, everything else Coleman had to adjust to, often majorly. Many times the adjustment was bringing him into the CB. I did see a number of blanket coverage, but I saw more NFL opens that the QB made not open. Honestly, I'm still nervous about the pick because separation is very important in NFL. I feel better after watching, but not convinced he can get open as much as I want vs NFL CBs.

I think they met with him TOO Many times. Like 4. Made me think they kept needing a little more convincing, and didn't get it.

It's just more (albeit unusual) evidence that we are a good team. Better than some of our fans are giving us credit for.

They're called counterperspectives and unless they're way off base, why the ad hominem at large?
This should be a place for discussion and exchange of ideas. If we were all that, then we'd all be talking about how we'd only need to go 2-2 to clinch the 1st Seed, which frankly, given the talent that we have, contrasted with every other team in the AFC this season, is where we should be.
I'm still chuckling at MLB's (OP) "... wail and moan ..." comment, in good nature, truly, imagining some Bills fans at home actually wailing and moaning. LOL
...
There's nothing wrong with being critical of your team, particularly when it's 7-6 but should have been 11-2, or at least 10-3 and in the driver's seat, and we haven't even mentioned having Allen yet. Anyone being critical and concerned about playing a team that's playing better than us, a team that already beat us, a team that we have never beaten on their turf in over 40 years and in a 3-hour different time zone with a game starting at 11 p.m. our time, and @ Miami is hardly being negative.
And lest we forget, absolutely nothing that anyone here says or does makes one iota of a difference in how our team plays.
I guess I don't understand the hostilities towards fellow Bills fans in simply discussing varying aspects of our team.
Good post. I truly have no problem with discussions, nor opposing viewpoints. It's the rage and venom spit at our team that's frustrating. The Bills are not a junk team, the coaches aren't junk. We've been a good team over the last couple years, and remain (close to) a good team now. Do we put it together and close out the year strong like we have over the last few years or not will tell us the verdict on this years team.
IMO, we're still feeling the loss of Dabol and Frazier. We've taken a step back without them. Our offense clearly has, and our defense is better because it attacks more, I think that it still loses because the Head Coach is doing double duty by being DC. Similar stats as Frazier, but it looks like it hurts our whole team. Fingers crossed that Brady can keep it up, we've definitely looked better with his play calling.

Agreed on those 2. But the other 4 are fighting for playoff positioning.
-
Roughly speaking you'd still expect .500 wins/losses. It's not even close, which sure implies that they've shot their wad to beat us.

We DO get everyone's best shot. If they manage to beat us, it clearly takes a toll on them.
As the title says, beginning in 2021, any opponent that manages to beat us, basically loses its next game with the record of 3-15. If you look only at playoffs with Josh Allen as our QB teams (5 years), teams are 0-5 after beating us. We've been the kingmaker as to who wins the AFC, whichever team doesn't play us.
When we do lose it's a close loss. We are in position win almost every game until the end. Out of 16 losing games (5 overtime), 14 were one score losses, with every one this year being a one score loss.
We are a good team. We have Josh-Freaking-Allen! This year we've had a rougher time of it record-wise and luck-wise, but we still have a good offense and a good enough defense. We can still right the ship and go for a run into the playoffs. Even with our Key personnel losses like Milano, White, and Daquan, I still think we have enough horses. Especially if we get Miller and Daquan back and effective. We get hot, we can win out.
I hate the gloom and doomers that wail and moan like we're New England and everything is F-ed.

Reckless and a liability… these are not word that work well with ‘Safety’
In a Madden dream world, Benford and Douglas successfully convert to safety, TreD comes back to his old self and Elam gets his act together at corner. Toss in Taron and that’s a solid DB room.
You only convert a DB to a safety if/when he can't be a corner. MUCH harder to fill job. It's absolutely not our best option to convert Benford to Safety. He's a solid starting corner.

Man I loved watching Barry Sanders. One of those very rare players that made you gasp on a regular basis. The best part is, that I actually get that feeling with Josh Allen. Someone who can do something (almost) nobody else can on a regular basis.
