  1. For those crowing about the Times and its ethics and political slant, it's actually one of the few remaining investigative papers left and they are pretty non-partisan in their news (vs editorial, which is indeed quite liberal) targets. They've broken (not just reported, but broken) a pretty large number of bad news stories for Dmocrats, including the Blumenthal stolen valor case, Charlie Rangel's tax problems, Bob Menedez's ethics problems and recently Al Sharpton's tax problems. When the Murdoch organization does the same for a conservative/Republican it will be their first. I've had that bet with several conservative friends for years and have had no takers to date....

How about just reporting on the multiple scandals of the current administration?? Yeah, I didn't think so. You are one of the dwindling few who still believe the NYT has journalistic standards simply because you share their views.

  2. So, where would these "iT gurus" get the performance metrics to carefully manicure and where would they get the evaluations of how each prospect measures up against those performance metrics?

Don't delude yourself into thinking that purely crunching college statistics will produce even a reasonable evaluation of draft prospects.

I'll bet they had a conference call with the ESPN Sports Science guy whose calculations said that EJ had great accuracy and was a budding superstar.

I tend to place the blame on Nix who said he was going to find a "franchise qb" before he left. It's like a guy going out for the night and saying he's gonna find his dream girl. It's around 2 am and he turns to the fat girl at the end of the bar and convinces himself that she looks awfully pretty.

  3. The Brooks hit was high and he lowered his head. The refs don't have the benefit of slow motion replays to see if there was head or neck contact. And in fact, contact to the opponents head or neck is not even required for a penalty.

Correct call in my opinion. The roughing call on Orton was not. They must have been confused by the fact that Brady wasn't in the game anymore ;)

Players are adjusting and going low as Reggie Nelson's did to Le'veon Bell last night. This is really getting stupid.

  4. Marrone has had little to do with the defense except for naming a defensive coordinator. Any football fan could have told you that Pettine and Schwartz were good defensive coaches.

Marrone is the de facto offensive coordinator and also had a hand in the debacle that was drafting Manuel in the first round. As for the offensive line troubles, Marrone benched an experienced left guard in Urbik in favor of starting a rookie, thus destroying any continuity the line had from last season.

For his role, Marrone led the 29th best offense in the league. Congrats.

  5. Russ is the straw dog in this debate. He had Ralph's trust and played an important role as a firewall between the football people and Ralph. He convinced Ralph to go along with good decisions such as the Mario Williams signing and deferred to the football people to make decisions concerning the draft, personnel, etc. That being said, I believe he should stay, but be involved only in the marketing side of things.

As for Polian, second acts never seem to work out. Polian is a very polarizing type which may cause problems with Whaley and the things that ARE going right with the organization.

  6. I believe Moroone when he says he didn't realize his best pass rusher was out for most of the second half. He was mic'd up against KC and he sounds like a complete imbecile. After Brown's fumble out of the end zone, he said "Er, uh, we ust lost seven points, right...right?" I digress.

Moroone spends all his time working with Hackoff in developing the brilliant offensive game plans and play calling we see on Sundays and has NOTHING to do with the defense. That explains Hackoff's arrogance about his offensive prowess (if the HC is ur buddy and you work with him every week on the offense, why worry???).

  7. I hate to rain on this parade, but history shows that all this optimism is a good indicator that the Bills will respond with a big let down. Our pass defense has looked great against teams with qb's with accuracy issues. Many of our int's have been the result of errant passes and not great coverage. I'm afraid that i see Manning carving up our D.

Even if our D were to play well and Manning struggles, Marone's dysfunctional offense will founder against a very good Denver defense. Denver will win comfortably. Hope I'm wrong.

  8. You're actually counting on a Marrone/Hackett led offense to come through and win games for the Bills in a playoff push? noway.gif

That's why I feel hopeless about this team. On the Miami blitzes, we had no answer...nothing!! It was almost as if we surrendered the plays. Hackett/Marrone had no answers. Am I right or was it Orton's fault for not checking out of the play?? Either way...hopeless!!

  9. Don't forget, EJ's benching had as much to do with keeping our wr's healthy. He was hanging them out to dry. Watkins quit on a limp wristed throw cause he knew he was gonna get killed to gain 5 yards on a 3rd and 15. Woods was every bit as disgusted.

  10. What answer would you give to satiate everyone?

His simplistic response suggests that the stupid fans want the team to abandon the run. Nobody is suggesting anything of the sort, but rather to not run the same plays on first and second down for six consecutive possessions!!!! How about trying a counter or a sweep???? How about getting a little crazy and running a play action on second down??? At the very least he ought to acknowledge that they may need to mix it up a bit, but he instead shows his unwarranted cockiness saying "I love it" and brags about the points they put up on a one win team that committed six turnovers.

  11. Hack-it loves the criticism from the fans? Sounds awfully smug for a guy who is yet to prove himself and kind of disrespectful.

His explanation for his ineffective strategy, “I want to be able to run the ball and that’s something I push towards them because I think it creates a toughness with our guys” sounds like that of an ignoramus and not an offensive wiz kid.
