  1. the o line was fine. Its no secret that opposing teams are going to bring pressure and force Manuel to make plays. He didn't do it. He is indecisive and makes terrible throws under pressure. He lobs every throw and it was a matter of time before he got one of his receivers killed. It was a gutsy effort by the defense to keep us in the game but ultimately we needed our QB to make a play. Enough with this crap about EJ only having to not make mistakes. HE NEEDS TO MAKE PLAYS.

Not sure what game you were watching if you thought the OL was fine. They were horrific. Guard play was flat out awful today. No running lanes to speak of, and the pressure got to EJ in a hurry.

EJ played bad today, no doubt about it. But to say the OL played fine is a complete lie. They were just as bad as EJ was.

  2. What is wrong with his post. As a mod you should be able to stop an obvious troll. And 26 just called him on it. Literally the one of the few things a mod should do is be able to spot a troll.

Not when the mod is just as big of a troll. Chandler wallows in EJ's failure like a pig in crap. He's the quintessential, "rather be right than have the Bills win" poster.

  3. Hopefully that arrogant piece of trash we call the commish is shown the door. Everything he does, including his attempts to squeeze every last cent from fans and now his lying on this issue wreaks of nothing more than complete and utter arrogance.

HE deserves to go for trying to sweep this issue under the rug so no one remembers it, and then turning around and going on and on about how much the NFL loves women by wearing pink during October.

  4. Watching the replay, I don't think any part of Jackson's body touched out of bounds until the ball touched the pylon. They're always saying the goal line stretches in both directions outward from the field to infinity, so I think it should have been called a touchdown.

I believe that rule was changed a few years ago and you have to cross the pylon or inside of it. The goalline no longer exists outside of the pylons.

  5. I have a difficult time understanding how people who are not professional sports GMs or coaches believe that they know when someone has no clue what they're doing.

I'm guilty of it - mostly questioning Marrone's ability to lead an NFL team. I shouldn't do it. Not only because he's only in his second year, but mostly because I have no friggin' clue what makes him come to the decisions he ends up making.

From where I sit, I think Whaley has had a solid reputation pre-dating his tenure in Buffalo. He's also done some great things whilst the GM of our beloved Bills. He's made some ballsy moves. He's addressed the defense by making bold moves with coaching and players.

People like to say, "well he hasn't gotten our franchise QB." How do you know? EJ has played in 9.5 games. Total. Ever. Would you like a stranger - who has no real idea what you do for a living - decide your future based on the first 6 months of your job? I sure as hell wouldn't.

I see a lot of "I would have ..." "He should have ..." statements regarding Whaley. Based on what? On what happened AFTER the decisions were made? Yeah ... hindsight.

Has he erred. In many of our eyes, absolutely. That's part of being human. It's not like he's Matt Millen and we've been waiting 8 years for him to stop drafting WRs in the first round.

Whaley's drafts, although too early to tell, seem to have been very good. His FA pickups have been nothing short of stellar. The Schwartz pick up to replace Pettine was seemingly excellent.

The questionable moves? Marrone and EJ. I think it's incredibly premature to say those moves were bad ones.

So ... to answer the OPs question: Does the front office have a clue? --> I like to think so, but I don't know, for sure. Nor does anyone posting on TBD.

Good post. Too many on here cry out how they knew this player that we didnt draft would be great and knew this play we did draft would suck. But i find it funny that there types, like large segment of posters who want wanted Stephen Hill a few years ago, are extremely quiet when Hill gets cut. Too many fling poo and then don't own it when they're wrong. In their mind they're never wrong but the Bills FO always is.

The FO may have a clue, but I'm not so sure about the coaching staff.

Specifically, I can't think of a single player on offense who has improved under Marrone. The only one who remotely fits into that category is Cordy Glenn, but he showed flashes of what he is now under Gailey. Lots of guys appear to have stagnated (EJ, Chandler), and many have outright regressed (Spiller, Urbik, Wood). For a coach whose specialty is offensive line and tight ends, he has little to show for his efforts to date. Methinks that if the FO really does have a clue, Marrone is on a short leash.

Another great post. Marrone has done a piss poor job of developing talent, and many have regressed, like you stated. How does Urbik go from a decent starter to someone who is barely hanging on? He's never been great, but he was decent until Marrone got here.

  6. I know that you want to mischaracterize the mental side of any player you don't believe in, but the book on EJ was that his mechanics were a work in progress, not his smarts.

    O RLY? Paging Ramius.

You're dead on. EJ is nowhere near stupid. He's a very smart individual. (here's where holcombs arm links to the tomahawk nation article trashing EJ, and again completely ignoring the fact that Tomahawk nation hated EJ and had it out for him his entire time in Tallahassee)

His biggest issues in college were his inconsistency, and his penchant to be inaccurate on some throws, which, watching him, looked like it was largely attributable to footwork issues. What you will find about EJ when you do some looking, is that he was a great leader down here. Took ultimate responsibility for and mistakes, even when they were clearly another players fault. He was highly respected and known for his intelligence. And he has all the physical talent in the world.

People forget that he was a project and stil considered raw. And sorry, being drafted in the 1st round doesn't make you less raw or mean he'll develop faster.

This preseason he did not look good. The best way i can explain it is that he isnt playing like he played here in college. The dumpoffs and robotic type play are not who he was down here. It sure seems like hes thinking too much and not simply playing.

As for the people that hated him down here? They hated him because he was a highly touted 5 star recruit but he didnt win a national title. Some people down here had ridiculously standards for him and held it against him when they didn't reach the mountaintop. Not to mention the team overall was less talented when EJ was under center.

  7. Always cordial. I never threaten to leave. Just told him my contract will be up in a month and I would like the same deal as I received last year. I am shocked it's going to take a 2nd call. I am just typing that I will not make a 3rd one. 14 years as a loyal customer should mean something to them.

I'm in the same situation you are. I got the ticket free last year, plus $35 off per month for 15 months. My contract runs out this month, but the credits are still good for 2-3 more. Given this situation, customer retention said the best they could offer was $15 off the ticket price per month, putting total cost at $150. So i simply asked if they could upgrade me to ST max for that price and he said sure, no problem. So i ended up with the ST max for $150.

I've gotten the ticket free whenever i'm not under contract. So next year i'll get it free. And in a few months when my credits run out, ill call back and get them back.

  8. The media has a different opinion than (EDIT:do) the team paid journalists? Say it ain't so Joe.

I see a trend here in that multiple non-team sources are calling into question EJ's abilities in his second camp, both Rochester and Buffalo based. Of course it's early, but a lot of these guys (while not bonafide scouts) have seen good QB play and knows what it looks like. They have an opinion built from their experience covering camp and games that is clearly not appreciated by those who are non-objective fans.

Journalists aren't fans. Journalists aren't paid by the team. When they don't echo what a fan thinks it doesn't mean they're anti-team. Besides, when multiple reporters are observing similar things in the team-appointed starting QB, could it be there's legitimate concern? Or is that they're venomous anti-team mentality creeping into their opinion?

You're conveniently ignoring that other media types, like Sal Capaccio and Brian Galliford from Buffalo Rumblings have had much different and much more balanced takes on EJ in practice. They've both been good at providing quality reports and highlighting both the good and bad that they've seen from EJ.

The "big" media types from the snooze and D&C seem to be going out of their way to trash EJ, highlight the negatives, and ignore the positives. But then again, thats right up your alley, isnt it?

  9. Great post!

This is it in a nutshell.

We all love the Bills and want them to win. We know they need a real QB to do that. We all want to see a new Jim Kelly--a player with skill, a fighter, and a born leader.

When a young athlete has "it" in any sport, you know it. And it is obvious to everyone, including grandma who doesn't follow sports. EJ isn't that guy and lots of good intentions or well crafted debate in his support is not going to change that.

As an aside, the front office and Marrone have foolishly hitched their wagon to EJ. They have placed all their eggs in his basket, and done a poor job at planning for an EJ failure contingency at QB.

That, combined with new ownership probably in the form of Pegula, will seal their fate.

For all you Marrone haters out there (I'm not one of them) hang in there. This iteration of Bills management and coaching will be gone soon enough when the EJ Project is declared a failure.

Pegula has learned his lesson with the Sabres in terms of maintaining the status quo under his ownership. That didn't work. He won't make the same mistake twice. This whole crew will be gone (Brandon may remain in a pure marketing position; he's good at that) and hopefully we can then start to forget the last 15 years or so.

Years ago, there was a 20+ page thread on a young QB that "looked the part" and was deemed to have "it." That QB was Matt Leinart.

  10. As a casual soccer observer, and someone who found they really liked the FA and Euro Cup finals last month, i found the opening game of the cup absolutely horrific, both the flopping and the reffing. Pathetic childish display by a bunch of small dicked brazilians. Games like that are why a large portion of americans simply cannot stand soccer.

I was looking forward to the world cup, but watching that as the opening game for the tournament sucked a lot of life out of me. I'll watch 'Murica but i'm already having a tough time tuning into that crap.

  11. Yea I do. Some of the players can be a bit boring but a lot of them are pretty hilarious. Eric Wood is surprisingly funny.

Eric Wood tweeting as he drank his way around the world at Epcot last year was nothing short of epic. The man can drink.

  12. Something does need to be done about the actual racing, because the 1.5 milers turn into a damn conveyor belt race. Nothings worse that a race like the all-star, where there are 2-3 care better than everyone else and they just get way ahead and there's no passing. That and seeing 13/43 cars on the lead lap is worthless.

I have 2 kind of "radical" changes that might be cool. The first is regarding points. After the top 15 or 20, make tiers where everyone gets the same number. So 35-43 all get X number of points. 30-34 get a few more, etc. This prevents busted ass cars from coming out and simply turning laps. And frankly, 31st sucks as does 41st, so why should 31 get 10 more points? Both had horrible races.

The second is way out of the box, but i think it'd be cool if that NASCAR tried out an elimination system on track during an individual race. Start the race, and at the 1/4 mark, the race is yellow flagged, and only the top 30 cars advance. After another 1/4, only the top 25 advance, and after 3/4, you're down to 15-20 cars left racing for victory. It would add some spice to the middle of the race.

  13. I've joked with some friends about this before, but the idea seems less and less ridiculous every day. If you wanted to move a team to LA, to hell with building a normal stadium and trying to attract a "fan base" to the local team. .Build a stadium in LA composed of nothing but luxury suites, and make it an event for all of the stars/celebs/businesses out there. You'd make a killing.

  14. Got a question for the soccer guys...I've watched a chunk of the FA cup final, the Euro Cup final, and then the tune-up game against azerbijan.

Why do the styles of play between the Eruo squads and the 'Muricans look so different? Different philosophy, different coaching, difference in talent? The Euro squads had a "slower" paced game with lots of controlled passes, while the Americans ran around with their hair on fire.

  15. I don't understand this kid at all. He was a typical young quarterback in Tampa he won a couple of 4th quarter games and I saw the progression from year 1 to year 2, he went 10-6 and missed the playoffs.

However, when Greg Schiano got to Tampa this kid was totally turned upside down and he could do nothing right, and he got released by Tampa. He signed with the Vikings, and later released.

Now he's been cut by the Giants.

3 strikes and your out !

P.S. Could he be better than our 3rd QB Jeff Tuel?

What you omit is that Freeman regressed in year 3, which was still under Raheem Morris. Freeman had 4+ seasons of starting in the league and was good for exactly 1 of them. Year 2 was the anomaly for him. He wasnt good in year under Morris, and was bad under Schiano.
