  1. all but haynesworth, wilfork, and dockett had made the pro bowl prior to the '07 season......it took haynesworth and wilfork multiple years of very solid production to finally get the recognition......and dockett did put up the huge numbers in '07 (9 sacks) to get in

DT's stats are probably less important then any other position, but in order to make the pro bowl a guy needs to be consistently good for a number of years or put up some big sack numbers......mccargo putting up 4 sacks just isn't going to get him in, no matter how good he actually plays.......it's still a popularity contest at the end of the day.......that doesn't mean he won't have a pro-bowl caliber year though

ok ill agree with yea about DT's and how long it takes to get in, but I still think McCargo has a great year next year and should be a pro bowl alternate atleast..like I said, I was trying to be realistic with my numbers, but didn't realize at the time I wrote them what the bottom 4 DT's had for stats....I hope McCargo has a year like the Pat Williams did in Minny, but Pat is just a monsters and a reckoning force that we unfortunately let go

  2. those aren't huge numbers and likely wouldn't attract too many pro bowl votes

OK so ill change the word huge to top numbers...if you check the stats of DT's the numbers I gave are comparable to top numbers of last season..as a matter of fact a few of the pro bowlers had comparable numbers although ill agree that huge would be exsessive....also I didnt want to go and throw numbers that I didnt think could be reached

    last years pro bowlers:

    Albert Haynesworth 40 6 0

    Vince Worlfork 48 2 0

    Jamal Williams 39 0 1

    Casey Hampton 33 .5 0

(hmm looks like my stats beats those 4 guys)

    Pat Williams 62 2 0

    Kevin Williams 38 3 1

    Tommie Harris 36 8 2

    Darnell Dockett 58 9 2

(ok my numbers aren't huge compared to these guys but if McCargo had my numbers last year he'd be a pro bowler)

  3. offense:

Lynch - (1635yards, 17 tds) Lynch should have been offensive rookie of the year if not rookie of the year last year...Peterson took it only because of that one game in which he broke the rushing record or came close to it, I cant remember wich...Lynch was in top of running backs behind a 1st year o-line while Peterson had a very good line in minny...this years o-line will be much better and with our new wr acquisitions Lynch will get 100/game average and a trip to Hawaii

Peters - if Peters doesn't get his contract this year he will be wanting to show how dominant he is at LT and then will get his pay-day...I just hope its with the Bills...Its one thing to let someone like Clements go but Buffalo seriously cant afford to lose Peters no matter how much he wants..pay-day + pro bowl#2 = Great future LT for Bills

    Defense:

Pozluzny - (126 tackles, 5 sacks, 2 int) while Lynch should have had offensive ROY..Poz most defiantly could have had defensive ROY if he had stayed healthy..or at least he looked like he could have had that type of year in the few games he played...this year he stays healthy and gets a pro bowl

McCargo - (40 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 FF) some ppl may say Stroud gets the trip , but I think Stroud will path the way for McCargo to go to Hawaii...McCargo will benefit and get huge numbers this year in his breakout year

Schobel - ( 65 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 1 int, 3 FF) with a solid middle and more dominant LB core Schobel might have his best year of the past 5 years...Im looking for double digit sacks and maybe 1 int this year and with name recognition along with production Schobel gets starter in pro bowl

  4. depends what you do.I would say that for the great majority of companies, employee costs are greater than 60%

Maybe you can, but I can't think of one industry where employee costs average 60% or greater of gross revenues. The most I can think of is in the banking industry where employee costs approach 50% of net revenues.

yea you guys are probably right..I think I was just looking at my paycheck thinking "damn I could make more, i really could, and it wouldnt bother me either"..lol..so yea I guess with as little as I make times how many employees we have in a small company..probably 50% or more of profits are paychecks

  5. sounds like they want the teams to take the money there spending on rookies and put that towards vets by lowering the rookie paycheck..so theyre not asking the team to lower the rookie salary and make more $, theyre asking the team to lower the rookie salary and make the vets more $...same payout bynthe team just devided different..I hope hes not saying that the teams should pay more of the % of earnings....cuz I know I work for a living and I get nowheres near what football players make as % of company earnings.

  6. Id have to say they would have gotten Hardy...noone could have predicted the way the wr's were picked in the draft...the first 3 or so were "whaa!!!" picks...almost everyone had hardy and thomas and even some had nelson gone in the first...Bills must have felt that in order to get Hardy they needed to trade away there 3rd pick..it was fortunate that teams totally went off scale on the picks and Bills got there man in the second

  7.

Wrong! They only call them "voluntary" because the CBA agreement says that the teams can only force the players to attend X amount of minicamps. To counter that ruling, the teams call them "voluntary" and tell the players "You have to be there, or else!" The only people who can get away with skipping voluntary camps are pro-bowl tyep veterans because the teams know that Jason Taylor-ish guys don't NEED to be there. I'm not sure if you noticed but Odell Thurman is no Jason Taylor (as an athlete or a dancer.)

OK I can agree on this one

I understand that his grandmother passed and that's sad. That's not why he got cut! If you don't believe me, here's what Marvin Lewis had to say: "His grandmother’s been buried for quite a while, don’t get into his whole family structure. He has not played football in two years. And we have people who will be better for our football team. We’ve been patient enough with Odell, and he’s no longer here. No big deal.” I don't know the timeline of when she died and when she was buried, but apparently he didn't explain himself well enough, or he just plain screwed up with his handling of this situation.

yes and in that same article it states: "Thurman went back to Georgia for his grandmother's funeral on May 12 and didn't return for voluntary workouts last week"...its been ten days since shes was buried and this topic was posted 2 or 3 days ago....to me M.Lewis is a scumbag to make a comment like that ...he expected him back last week..ok I know most places only give you 3 days of bereavement for grandparents but this was his mother in sense and the Bengals should have shown more class and let him have longer...now if he was given longer and didn't show up by next OTA then ok do what you want..

What are you basing that on? That sounds to me like your personal opinion on the matter because I have not heard/seen anything that implied that.

yes this is opinion not fact..I started out this sentence with "I think"....I only said this because its stated in the article and talked about a bit and because 9 times out of 10 your guilty by association..lol

Finally, something we agree on (except the Chad Johnson comment...that's just completely off topic.)

1.)He has proven time and time again that he is a "me first" kind of guy who won't change his lifestyle.

2.)Corporations don't give a rat's ass about your personal life. You're being paid so they make money off of you. If you aren't making them money...you don't get paid. it sucks. But if you don't like it, you better own your own business.

3.)The team was fed up with his crap and they decided to cut him loose. I give them credit because that takes balls to cut a second round pick who is obviously extremely talented. I think Thurman could be a decent starter if he gets his act together.

4.) Rivers helps them, but their linebacking corps is still way below the NFL standards in terms of quality/talent. Losing Thurman really hurts them and one guy isn't going to make them forget about that waste of a second round pick.

I have to disagree with some of this:

"1.)He has proven time and time again that he is a "me first" kind of guy who won't change his lifestyle.".....I read nothing that stated this so is this fact or opinion...and my point was that the Bengals were acting in the "me first" attitude...he evidently did change since Goodell allowed him back into the NFL this season.

"3.)The team was fed up with his crap and they decided to cut him loose"...how much crap could he have given them with 2 years away from the team?....I will admit I dont know what happened to make Goodell give him a full year after the 4 game suspension he had..or why Goodell gave him the second year.

Side note: The 2005 Cincinnati Bengals Draft

    Round 1 David Pollack (retired)

    Round 2 Odell Thurman (released)

    Round 3 Chris Henry (released)

    OUCH!

yea I agree..bad year for them

  8. Did anyone here even look up why Thurman was suspended for so long? HE FAILED A DRUG TEST! He got suspended for 4 games by the NFL for failing (or skipping) his drug test. That means that he probably failed more than one, am I right? So he gets suspended for 4 games and manages to get locked up for drinking and driving while he is on suspension from the league. That earned him a full years' suspension. Upon further review (and let's be honest, we don't know how it works) Goodell said "No thanks" to him coming back. There had to be a reason for that. So now people are saying "Poor Odell! He is an alcoholic and his grandmother died!" I can't believe you guys. He is yet another example of a player who refuses to get his crap together. His grandmothers' passing was just bad timing. If he was worth keeping around, they would have kept him on the team.

I never said the guy was a saint or that he didnt do anything wrong...he was allowed back so obviously you didnt read the article...he was let go for not being seen arround team HQ enough...my argument is that 1 - voluntary means you have a choice to show up or not to show up...seeings that he was out for 2 years, yes its best to show up..you could also argue wether or not 3 seasons with only 1 playing, being his rookie year, if hes considered a 1 year player wich means he didnt have a choice or wether hes a 3 year vet..i dont know the rules on that...2 - he didnt show up due to a death of his mother figure..again, Id like to see you go into work the day after your mother/grandmother dies...

I think it was a few things that got him released....1- hes henry's best friend and henry was just released as well(this is not a main or big reason, just a plus or minus in thurmans case)...2 - he didnt show a "team before personal life" attitude this past month..i hate to tell you but ppl that run corporations just dont care about your personal life all they see is what they want done isnt getting done...3 - Im thinking the team was just fed up with any problems...chad johnson's under there skin and multiple players are thugs...4 - they have Rivers

  9. wow..some of you really disgust me..seriuosly...the way you talk about alcoholism is pathetic...yes I agree doctors will turn anything into a disease these days but alcoholism is suffered widely...also I hope when your mothers die (I dont wish this on anybody) (his grandmother raised him so she was like his mother) you all get fired from your jobs for taking some time off to bury her and get things taken care of...you all keep missing this part....he wasnt a no show for no reason to voluntary ota's...

  10. He successfully completed his court-ordered alcohol treatments while he was suspended for the '06 season. But Goodell would not lift the suspension for 2007 - Thurman felt (and I agree with him) that he was not re-instated because at the time the Vick story was raging.

He filed a lawsuit against the NFL, claiming that alcohoism is a disease per the Americans with Disabilities Act.

well in my mind that makes it even worse for the Bengals and for the NFL...Am I the only one thats getting the feeling that Goodell sucks and is not very good for the NFL?...every time I read something like this he seems like the evil ceo that's trying to cover up all the bad deeds hes doing.

  11. well the problem with the Bills is that once you become a good player they aren't willing to pay you and keep you arround...is that what the Bills will do with Evans?..who knows.....I think they sign him to a 5 year deal with incentives and a way out clause also...Ive heard some say he might demand what Fitz has from Arizona...but Fitz has 3 probowls

its not good to go into a season with only 1 gameplan...if the Bills go smash-mouth and don't pay attention to the passing game it would be bad...I think what your seeing is a Bills team trying to be dominant in both areas

I would have liked to see Bills do better in the TE area as well this year but I'm not a coach or an NFL scout so I'm going to have to give them the benefit of doubt

  12. I thinking we should sign him to an incentive laden deal.

LOL..I wasn't trying to start a "hes cut and hes good and we know his name so sign him thread"...but his rookie year looks really good and if hes really taken the steps to get his life back on track and get back into NFL.. I dint see why another team that needs a LB wouldn't at-least try him out...some people do grow up

  13. nfl.com Odell Thurman

OK maybe I'm wrong here but i feel Bengals showed no class in cutting Odell Thurman for the reason stated in the article....the mans grandmother has just died, she raised him so he was as close to her as if she was his mother...the man fails to attend VOLUNTARY ota's just after her death as he's at home takeing care of her things...I understand he just had 2 years off and that the Bengals are installing a new defense and want him there to study it, but c'mon....this just sounds like they didnt want him back in the first place and are just useing this as a way to get rid of him...to bad it makes them sound like losers

  14. The Patriots are notorious for signing players recently cut by rival AFC East teams, so as to pick their brains. The Patriots therefore also "cheat" in the same manner the Bills do. Next!

what he was saying is that hiring a player/coach from a team that got rid of you and then "picking" their brains for info is NOT CHEATING....so to say they cheat just like the Bills do is obsurd...NEXT!!

  15. wow...your totally reaching on this one...might as well add the year we grabbed a pats player just before the season opener and we won..guess thats cheating too...how can you connect a disgruntled ex-employee calling and giving info and a team sneakily filming other teams to steal actual plays and there signals?

I agree every team bends the rules but cheatriots went farther and according to this report not just on signal filming but with the way they use the IR system...but we fans knew that one allready..you can see the cheatriots do that every year

  16. Per your sig, is Wendling practice squad eligible?

Actually I dont know..not real familiar with the rules of eligibility...I just figured he has experience and would be good to keep arround incase the team needed him

I disagree regarding Preston. I think Preston will not be on the team on opening day.

well like I said..if Felton shows hes capable to backup on this OL then yea Preston will be gone before season starts...But if he dosent then either they keep Preston or they get a veteran to take his place...I just cant rule Preston gone till I see someone better...the only other thing I can think of is that the Bills feel that this line will stay healthy and feel that Felton will get better experience actually being on the roster..

Dose anyone Know if Felton can long-snap?... hate to see a spot taken by a guy that can only snap the ball (Ryan Neil)

  17. my sig has mine

    - I think they keep Preston this year and put Felton on PS till next year when they get rid of Preston and promote Felton to roster...only because Preston has more experience in nfl and Felton might need 1 year to get NFL ready...IF Felton looks good in preseason he might push Preston out this year.

    - highly doubt they keep 2 FB's...Viti gets the job

    - Whittle over Bell..Bell will join Felton on PS this year to get experience

    - Bills seem to like Jefferson so I see him staying on DL since he can dual role

    - keep Jenkins at WR for hieght and ST

    - I see Bills keeping alot of CB's this year including Youboty

  18. mine looks like this:

    QB: Edwards, Losman

    RB: Lynch, Jackson, Omon, Wright

    FB: Viti

WR: Evans, Hardy, Parrish, Reed, S. Johnson, Jenkins

TE: Royal, Fine, Anderson, T. Johnson

    OG: Dockery, Butler, Whittle, Preston

    OT: Peters, Walker, Chambers, Bell

    C: Fowler, Preston

DE: Schobel, Kelsay, Denney, Ellis, Johnson, Jefferson

DT: Stroud, McCargo, Williams, Johnson, Jefferson

    OLB: Crowell, Mitchell, Ellison, Bowens

    ILB: Pozluzny, Digiorgio

CB: McGee, McKelvin, Greer, Youboty, Corner

    SS: Whitner, Scott

    FS: Simpson, Wilson

    PK/FG: Lindell

    P: Moorman

    LS: Neill

PS: OG/C- Felton, CB- Cox, QB- Baker, S- Corto, S- Wendling, WR- Jones, WR- Huggins, DT- McCray, FB- Evans, LB -Marcus Buggs

  19. Ive seen Robert Royal make those types of plays before.........

ya that is what Derek Fine is going to be like....we can only hope and the scouts said he was the best all around TE they scouted.....he seems like an under the radar guy and with all of those reps he is getting at the mini camp i think he could start at TE for us....he is a tough blocker with soft hands....perfect!

Royal looked good here..maybe it was who the Bills played but he looked real good here..

    Bills vs Miami
