Why not just link to the D&C article instead of KFFL?

  2. Smallville's biggest flaw is its need to be so over the top with everything.  The whole Clark and Lana thing was just stupid.  The minute that Clark showed her his powers, you just knew 'that beeotch gonna die', then, of course, you knew he was going to go back in time to save her, because the real Lana exists in the superman comic.  Sigh.

    586084

The last time I read the comics, both Martha and Jonathan Kent were still alive, so the fact that Lana is too doesn't mean squat.

  3. - Didn't really think about whether he would ever get another head coaching job

    - Wanted to take care of whatever job he had at the moment

    - For it to work, entire organization must be on same page, and get lucky in terms of injuries and the way the ball bounces

    - A chance to win is all you can ask for

    - Couldn't answer how the team needs to change to win in AFC East, has only watched a couple of tapes

    - Most of the pressure to win is internal

    - Has always enjoyed being around football, especially a team where everyone is committed to the team

    - Doesn't feel like he's ever been overwhelmed by pressure

    - Hasn't met with players yet

    - When he meets with the team the first time he will tell them the rules he will enforce

    - First order of business is to hire a staff and then evaluate the talent on current roster, then free agents, then college

    - Every position is open to competition

    - Would not say who would be QB

So, nothing new or groundbreaking at all.

    581076

One of he things I liked about what he said is that from week to week you have to figure out how to beat the team you are facing. He says Belicheck does a great job of adjusting week by week to his opponents. He says he wants to do the same in Buffalo. If he does do this, it will be a step up from GW and MM. Both of them seemed to want to run the same schemes regardless of who we were playing instead of attacking the other teams weaknesses.

  4. Qualifications like the color of your skin? You are not being brought in based on qualifications. You are being brought in based solely on your skin color. To get where we need to be, we need to interview based on qualifications, not skin color. This policy, IMO, makes this problem worse because it does not address qualifications. It is only based on skin color.

No, because you are not addressing the root cause of the problem. You are not treating them equally. You are treating them differently. That is my whole point. You cannot force equality through legislation/policies/etc. You have to change mindset. No amount of "reparations" is going to correct the problem because reparations do not address the actual problem. You need to treat the root cause if you expect to solve the problem.

If an owner does not want to hire an A-A coach, how does this policy correct that? You are forcing the owner to interview a person he is not going to hire. You have demeaned the interviewee and wasted time and money. In the end, what did you accomplish? The interviewee feels humiliated because it was not about the hard work he has put in over the decades. It is based on his skin color.

    572955

How do you change mindset? You change it by forcing a policy like the minority inverview rule, and having minority internship programs. That gets candidates interviewed, and eventually hired. Once you accomplish that, you can really change the owners mindset by the results on the field of the teams coached by minority candidates. Now it's about winning instead of skin color. What owner wouldn't want Lovie Smith or Marvin Lewis now?

  5. How is this program not a slap in the face to A-A's? Take the Detroit example. They wanted Mooch. Everyone knew they were going to hire Mooch. Now, you need to fine an A-A who was willing to be the token interview or risk a fine. That would be absolutely humiliating to be that person. You are only being interviewed based on your skin color and it has nothing to do with qualifications. Now look at other teams. If you interview an A-A, how could they not possibly think that they are just a token interview?

I have always had a problem with programs like this. You cannot stop basing interviewees on skin color by implimenting a program where you interview people based on skin color.

    572680

Don't we have this stupid debate every year around this time. The only situation where it was obvious that an interview was a token one has been the Detroit/Mooch situation. Several years ago, assistant coaches like Herm Edwards, Ray Rhodes, and Tony Dungy weren't even getting a sniff at a head coaching job. The minority coaching programs as well as the minority interview rule certainly has helped expose more minority coaches to the owners. The owners (save for Al Davis) were obviously not comfortable for what ever reason with having a minority head coach. Even though Art Shell broke some ground, it was a long time between hires. I think Ray Rhodes was next. With Lovie Smith, Herm Edwards, Tony Dungy, and Marvin Lewis as head coaches, maybe the owner discomfort has been forever alleviated, and the minority interview rule isn't needed. I suspect that's probably not the case given how long it took to get where we are today. I recall Ted Cottrel being very pleased with the policy because it gave him the opportunity to prepare and interview for a head coaching job. It also gave him exposure that he otherwise would not have gotten.

It always seems to be the people in the majority who deny that discrimination exits in the first place, then say well maybe it did it exist, but that's not the case now. Then they assume the playing field is suddenly level overnight.

"To improve an attack that ranked among the league's worst in total and passing yards, and scoring, Donahoe brought 14 offensive linemen to camp, the most ever during his seven-year tenure. After only two days of practice, however, he was down to 10. "That's the kind of thing that makes you old before your time," Donahoe says. "We wanted to improve the line because, frankly, if you can't block people, it doesn't really matter what your skill players can do.""

What are you in love with TD or something?

  7. Bro...I got some REAL News for ya...

31-49 in the past 5 Years...The joke has been on all of us for a while now...

I do find this TBD reaction to the National Media reaction a bit laughable...The Bills needed change...We are getting change...National Media perception is a joke when it comes to the Bills...These idiots (the critical Media) just want the Bills do be good little NFL Small Market whipping boys, and be happy they had that run with Kelly and the crew back in the day...So when Ol Ralphy Boy decides to do something a bit "out-of-the-box," the Bills are suddenly worse than Arizona, San Fran, Cleveland, The Saints, that mess in Philly this Year, or the Vikings Lake Cruisers? You have to be kidding me??? Every single NFL insiders knows the Bills, as an Organization are solid (if not spectacular) and were so long before TD got there...For a Reporter to say this is the worst he's seen in Years, or anything of the like, is just ridiculous...

I'm not saying this past couple weeks has not been a bit odd...No question it has...But to be honest F the National Media, F Cowherd, F Clayton, and F anyone else who has not had to sit through every freaking down the past 5 Years and watch this bunch...They don't have a clue...If they did, they would at least be giving Ralph a little credit for recognizing things needed to change...And furthermore...Why is it the Bills Organization is such a joke when the freaking HC quit??? He quit...He's a quitter...I find it hard to believe Mularkey is being let off the hook for this in the Media, cause I doubt he'll be a HC in the NFL anytime soon...We'll see what GM (assuming TD does not get a Job and hire him), or Owner wants that quitter Coaching his Team...Marv and Ralph wanted the guy around even though it would have been easy to scapegoat MM for Last Season...REAL easy...And he still quit...Quitter...

No one knows how this whole thing is going to turn out, and I still do not think the Bills will be able to make a big step in 2007 regardless...I just think this is going to take a couple Years to completely turn around...But I do think they will be better, and the idiots that are making this out to be the end of the world have no idea how bad it has already been...The Bills really, truly have almost no where to go but up...They were among the League worst on Offense and Defense in 2006...After witnessing that mess, these past few days have been a cakewalk if you ask me...And no one ever does btw...

Great post. I couldn't agree more.

  8. are you being sarcastic?

    i honestly can't tell.

if you are NOT being sarcastic, i agree with you.

that has been a killer division and NO has had some issues.

    565963

Not being sarcastic at all. Here's a former Bill, who wants to be the Bills head coach, has coaching experience, and has a winning record (not including 2005). I say he's the best fit out there for us.

    565783

Thanks for making me change my mind on Haslett. I say he's the right guy now. Not including 2005, he's got one losing season out of 5. This is against the NFC South of Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Carolina. That's a been a tough division for a few years now. I would welcome Haslett. Thanks.

  10. Moulds being out, for whatever reason, was A reason why the Bills lost.  Whether he took himself or got himself benched, what he did should have NEVER happened.  And Moulds accepted the suspension WAY too calmly.

    547792

Your original post said "Well to be fair, the Bills were one quarter away from sweeping the Dolphins this year, with a team with worse talent, if not for Moulds". Now you are saying Moulds was A reason not THE reason. I can live with that.

  11. To me that is laughable. But it matters not what the argument was about, it matters not that Moulds was frustrated, what matters is Moulds taking himself out of the game, refusing to go back in. That is the only reason. Players do not get suspended and lose 93K for arguing on the sidelines that we should have run more with a 21-0 lead.

    547785

They do when the coach looks like an idiot for his stupid play calls that lead to a humiliating loss. How'd you like that first down pass by Roscoe?

  12. ;)

So WITH Moulds in there, the Bills turn it over even more?  Or less?

And let me ask you this.  You think Mould's presence is good for a 1st down?  And do you think even just 1 more 1st down would have helped win the game?

    547577

I'm saying we didn't lose the game because of Moulds. We had our opportunities after he was benched, and we blew them. Moulds was also rightly complaining about the play calling that was designed to squander a lead rather than put the Dolphins away.

  13. Like i said, I don't personally blame Moulds for the entire loss. I will say, however, that if Moulds didn't have a completely unwarranted meltdown when he did, I think we win that game. Sure, there were other ways we could have won it, or not lost it, but missed reads and bad passes happen. This doesn't happen.

    547578

Only Moulds, Mularkey, and the receivers coach really know what the "meltdown" was about. I give more credence to Moulds saying he was upset about the lack of trying to put the dolphins away with a power running game than I do with him being upset about Evans getting the ball.

  14. The offense scored three passing touchdowns in the first quarter with a good part of the credit to Moulds for being a quality receiver that the Dolphins and all other teams must account for. Once he went out, because he was an ass, the Fins were able to shut down Evans and didnt need to worry about Aiken and Reed and we were shut out. Surely this must have been self-evident.

    547532

Didn't we have 2 redzone turnovers without Moulds in the game? Perhaps that is why we didn't score, not the lack of Moulds?

  15. I dont personally blame the Miami game on Moulds but I understand the theory. That when he took himself out of the game and threw his hissyfit and was benched for insubordination, the offense tanked, we scored no points the rest of the game, Reed and Aiken could not pick up the slack and the Dolphins were let back in it and won. If he just played and tried like he is paid millions to do, we likely would have won.

    547504

How about we didn't score again because Mularkey went into coast/trick play/game's already won mode. Besides, according to most around here Moulds isn't any good anymore, and the offense is just fine without him.

  16. Well to be fair, the Bills were one quarter away from sweeping the Dolphins this year, with a team with worse talent, if not for Moulds.  But as I said, he's likely a goner if the Bills make a GM change.

    547464

How on earth do you blame the Miami loss on Moulds?

  17. Willis McGahee had another lousy game with 23 carries for 66 yards, a 2.9 average. This is seven games in a row without a 100-yard performance, and while everyone knows the offensive line isn't very good, McGahee looks like he's shot this year. There's no hop in his step, no willingness to put his head down and burrow for yards the way he did last season. He had 790 yards in the first 8 games (98.7 average), and has 344 in the last 7 games (49.1 average). -  Rochester D&C

I made the above observation... in August

Something is wrong here... The OL can only be blamed so much..

Drew Rosenhaus is high if he believes McGahee deserves a new contract. His current contract is good enough, based on performance...or lack of...

With plenty of Cap room to work with, signing a journeyman RB wouldn't be a bad idea.

    542649

Although Mcgahee hasn't looked as good as last year, out of the last 7 games you quote, in 3 of those games, he had 8, 9 and 10 carries. No running back is going to produce with so few attempts. You also have to question the line and the play calling. How many times have we seen Willis rush up the middle for no gain because there was no push and no hole. You can't blame it all on him.

  18. Thought this was interesting, from the front, the CBS Sportsline "notes & quotes" article:

-General manager Tom Donahoe told readers of the team's web site that the team has told veteran WR Eric Moulds it wants him back next season. "We are hopeful things can be worked out at the conclusion of the season," said Donahoe, who would have to re-work Moulds' contract yet again to lower his near $11 million cap figure. But he said the team still rates Moulds an elite receiver.

Is TD saying this because he knows fan support is in Moulds favor (in general), or is he saying it because he knows he (TD) will be back, and MM will be gone?  Or is he saying it because he is knows that he (TD) will be gone after the season, so he can say whatever he thinks people want to hear?  I just can't fathom Moulds, Mularkey and Donohoe all being employed by the Bills next season...these are the days of our lives!

    540280

That was TD's response to the question I sent him for "Ask Tom Donahoe". I didn't think he'd answer it to be honest though. Glad he said what he said. Hope it's true.

  19. 1 more year, 2 more years, 1 more week?

When he takes a shot he reminds me of those stunt doubles that have those backpacks on and fly backwards 20 feet.

    :(  <_<

    535620

Told my wife last night that he won't last 2 years in the NFL. He's gonna take a really bad hit, and it will be game over. It's just a matter of time. I hope he's not too badly injured when it happens.
