  1. Dan Reeves liking Buffalo option

In this WIVB article the possibility of Dan Reeves reaching out to Chan Gailey is a very intriguing option.

    http://www.wivb.com/dpp/sports/bills...s-coach-search

The Bills wound up with Gailey, who's

got extensive experience in the NFL. He

started in the NFL in Denver in 1985 under Dan Reeves, who grew up in Gailey's hometown of Americus, Georgia and coached him in little league baseball.

News 4 Sports spoke with Dan Reeves Wednesday, and asked for his opinion on Chan Gailey.

"Chan's gonna be sound. He's fundamentally sound, he's gonna do things that make them able to compete week in and week out. He's gonna be very well prepared. But I think also Chan is also on the cutting edge. He's gonna be one of those innovative guys who come up with things."

Reeves, who coached in four Super Bowls and played in two others, has not coached since he was fired by the Atlanta Falcons after the 2003 season. But he would not rule out coming to Buffalo to work on Gailey's staff.

"He hasn't reached out to me," Reeves said, "but I coached him in Little League and he might give me a chance. He might come back and try to see if I could help him out."

We asked if Reeves would be open to working with Gailey in Buffalo.

"I tell you, if I could help Chan Gailey out, I would certainly be interested in that."

  2. Quote:

REPORTER: How interested were you in coaching in Buffalo?

MARTY: Well, I wasn't certain, quite frankly, that I was interested in coaching, but Buddy Nix has been an associate of mine for a number of years. And Buddy in my opinion is one of the best personnel people I've ever been around. So, with that in mind, we had some discussions, but to suggest that I was ever a candidate would not be accurate... My discussions about it were really driven by the fact that I have such a high regard for Buddy Nix.

REPORTER: Did Buddy reach out to you?

MARTY: No. Buddy and I, having been together in San Diego for an extended period of time, are good friends, and, you know, we had some discussions about (my son) Brian Schottenheimer, and all. But, there was never a point in time that this was something that I was absolutely excited about doing, to be candid with you.

Schottenheimer breifly discussed the report that Wilson was not interested in him. We asked him if it was true.

"Not in my sense of it. No, I don't think so," Schottenheimer said.

REPORTER: Were you disappointed at all that there didn't seem to be a massive level of interest from the Bills in bringing you in?

MARTY: No, because I never considered myself a candidate. No, I didn't have any disappointment at all, because I was never a candidate in my view... My discussions, as they unfolded, were very preliminary and never got beyond that point. There was never any point in time in my opinion that I was committed to doing.

Schottenheimer said that he was never certain he wanted to return to coaching.

  3. "I thought that he got a raw deal when Todd Haley fired him right before the beginning of the season. I'm guessing that the'r opposing philosophies clashed, and Todd wanted to run the offense the way he wanted to run it, so he fired Chan.

With that said, Gailey was an awesome OC for the Chiefs last year, during the Herm regime. He made Tyler Thigpen look like a star QB, which he wasn't obviously. The guy knew we had a bunch of crap, and was still able to make it work. He changed our offense into a weird pistol offense, but we started doubling our offensive production, so the dude knows his crap. If you guys can get a good D coordinator, I think your offense will be good. I liked Chan a lot."

What exactly is a pistol offense?

  4. Keep this date in your calendars. This was heard on a radio station and as part of a certain Thurman Thomas weekly show, that the Buffalo Bills have big time news on 1/15/2010 that will impress the fans and be shocking.

Thurman would not go into the news on the radio, but I am guessing that perhaps this is tied to Coach Sal's report of Cowher being interested in the Bills. Maybe this is the date that they are targeting as the signing and turning around of the Buffalo Bills Franchise or the Ownership status and a heir taking over and keeping the team in buffalo.

  5. As per Rotoworld.com

Bills signed QB Brian Brohm off the Packers' practice squad.

Brohm is unlikely to make a difference in Buffalo, but he's a worthwhile late-season pickup with the Bills going nowhere. The 2008 second-round pick lacked confidence throughout his 1 1/2-year stay in Green Bay. He has NFL-caliber tools, but probably needs a miracle-working position coach to fix his mindset. Brohm will finish out 2009 as Buffalo's No. 4 quarterback.

Is he worth mentioning and possible backup QB next year?

  6. And without the Bills, you Canadian fans would be left with only CFL games to attend.  YOU should be thanking US instead of dissing us and fantasizing about stealing our team.

It's the least you could do for the NY taxpayers who put up the $63 million to keep the team in the area, for you to enjoy.

NO we would go to Pittsburgh or Detroit to watch games. BUFFALO thrives of CANADIAN fans which fill half the stadium. SO AGAIN without us, you would have no team and therefore the city of BUffalo would be nothing but a boring HOLE.

  7. Could fans in Toronto ever show the same affection for the Bills and running back Willis McGahee that devoted Buffalo fans do?

    NEVER

    The Star

Would Buffalo Bills ever move to Toronto?

86-year-old owner of NFL franchise foe of relocation But new owner might be tempted in post-Wilson era

    Sep. 7, 2006. 01:00 AM

    MORGAN CAMPBELL

    SPORTS REPORTER

The owners of the Leafs and the Jays have finally admitted in public that they plan to work together to lure an NFL franchise to Toronto.

Larry Tanenbaum of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has even said he's ready to accommodate a team and is waiting for the league to give him the word.

He might be waiting a while, since the NFL already has 32 teams and the league has said it has no plans to expand soon.

    But what about relocation?

Since 1988 five NFL franchises — the Cardinals, Rams, Raiders, Browns/Ravens and Oilers/Titans — have changed cities.

It's pure conjecture right now, but the slimmest of possibilities exists that the next team to relocate might wind up in Toronto.

With an 86-year-old owner who has expressed no clear plan for the franchise for after he dies, an address less than 90 minutes from Toronto, and a stadium lease that expires in less than a decade — could that team be the Buffalo Bills?

Yesterday team officials weren't prepared to talk about the possibility of the NFL in Toronto, much less the Bills moving there.

"The question about Toronto is an NFL question, not a local team question," said Bills spokesperson Scott Berchtold.

Though Berchtold and Russ Brandon, the Bills' VP of business operations, said the team has no plans to move, the team does have a relatively old stadium, the impetus behind most NFL relocations.

Thirty-three-year-old Ralph Wilson Stadium has forced the team to consider moving before. But they didn't consider it long.

In 1998 the Bills faced a pair of developments that threatened their tenure at Ralph Wilson Stadium in suburban Orchard Park. First was the expiration of their 25-year lease on the park, second was the stadium's condition. The building needed more seats and new luxury boxes, and although state government had pledged $63 million (all figures U.S., the Bills wouldn't qualify for the grant unless they could find $11 million on their own.

If the team couldn't raise the money through premium ticket sales, the only other choice would have been to find a new city. But Berchtold says moving was never an option.

"At the time nobody in the organization was thinking about moving," he said, adding that the team signed a 15-year lease at Wilson Stadium in 1998. "We were all concentrating on $11 million and making that goal. I don't know anyone in the organization, from (owner) Mr. Wilson on down who ever thought about leaving Buffalo."

Not only was 86-year-old owner Ralph Wilson against moving in 1998, he has also voted against every relocation bid that has come up since he has owned the Bills.

But even the team's top staff doesn't know what plans — if any — Wilson has for the team for after he dies.

"We have no idea what he's going to do," Berchtold said. "You'd have to ask Mr. Wilson. He's been asked that question before, but he's never really answered it."

Wilson is committed to other small markets — this year he joined a committee tasked with making the league's revenue-sharing agreement friendlier to small market franchises. But there's no guarantee a new owner would feel the same way, especially with a huge market less than two hours away.

According to Nielsen Media, Buffalo is the 49th-largest television market in the U.S. If Toronto were included in those rankings it would place fifth, behind New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia.

Other Buffalo businesses have already noticed Toronto's drawing power. Last month Buffalo's urban radio station, WBLK, sponsored a concert by soul songstress Anita Baker at Ontario Place. This month it's holding a contest to meet R&B sensation Beyonce Knowles after her concert — in Toronto.

The Bills realize thousands of Canadians cross the border for their home games, and they plan to keep building the popularity of the Bills brand in the GTA.

But they plan to do it from Buffalo.

"We've made strides in southern Ontario in our ticket (sales) and marketing program," Brandon said. "Southern Ontario is part of our marketing plan and it always has been."

WITHOUT the Toronto or canadian fans, your team would have dissapeared from Buffalo a long time ago. YOU should be thanking us not dissing us.

  8. My inside sources say that in addition to that new rule only applying to the Bills, we have a $2 salary cap and must purge our roster of everyone but JP Losman, who will hike and throw to himself and then catch the ball; he will also play defense. Marv will be forced to coach pro bono by NFL fiat. Also, our opponents are allowed to have their entire roster and pratice squad on the field at all times.

    WE WILL SEE

  9. A friend of mine who works at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport who is a huge BILLS fan called me and informed me that Pickett has arrived and is being accompanied by MODRAK.....

I am hoping for an announcement in the next few hours..

    TAKE CARE!!!
