Charles Clay signed a lucrative contract.
Robert Foster was Josh Allen's best weapon his rookie year.
Just read this whole thread front to back for the first time, incredible contributions everyone!

I'll pick one for offense - Kaden Prather, and one for defense - Wande Owens. We heard good reports about both in the OTAs and mini-camp and both have the requisite lack of notoriety from their college days and the pre-draft process.
Came here to say Owens. Seems like he could be this year's surprise on the 53 like Andreesen

hmmm Carter's arms look much bigger than last year IMO. Maybe there's hope for him to be an effective rotational piece
Beane mentioned potentially some 1T plans for him

A Super Bowl they got smoked in, and an AFCCG they got smoked in. Bills fans are used to all that already. Nothing new or exciting there.
They definitely didn't get smoked in that super bowl. A pretty bad defensive holding call tilted it late

I actually assume there will be 4 "true" safeties rostered initially, with at least 1 of Lewis and Hancock serving as depth for both NCB and S. Could be a position that gets trimmed once Hoecht and Ogunjobi return, depending on injuries. The lack of an established depth chart might make a deeper room more appealing out of the gates.
Yes, much like last year initial 53 was Rapp, Bishop, Hamlin, and Mike Edwards at S with Lewis listed as CB. This year could be Rapp, Bishop, Forrest and Owens at S with Hancock listed as CB.

Great post. I'll just throw in my 2 cents on the bolded. While I'd love to have an All-Pro WR, I know its not realistic unless we hit jackpot on a guy at the end of the 1st one year.
Adding one serious outside threat forces defenses to be more multi-dimensional than they have to be now (one reason Spags has owned us). Defenses against us dont have to worry about anybody getting over the top of them,(thats been beat ad nauseum) allowing them to crowd the line more... but even more troublesome is not having a horizontal field stretch.
No deep threat + Bad outside WR's creates a nasty venn diagram, where defenses can put 70% of their focus and personnel in shallow - intermediate & condense to the middle.... which happens to be where we are most strong. We run the ball well, that ven diagram is very favorable to a defense wanting to stop the run. We also get the majority of our passing game from inside the hashes.... same spot where the defense wants to be.
We're throttling our own strengths by not having an outside guy... plus, were missing out on a ton of gains to be had on the outside. Obv there's nothing we can do to fix it now, except pray that somebody breaks out between between Moore, Coleman or Palmer. Its possible.
My thing is I really feel like we're one top 20 outside WR away from being unstoppable. Dude wouldnt even need to dominate like 2020 & 2021 Diggs. We could move up and down the field, in whatever manner we would like, completely dictating the pace. Getting just a bit more consistency outta the offense, can lead to our DL getting more opportunities to just pin their ears back and rush the pass. I loved our draft though, and my God do I pray we can finally address the WR position better next year
That's why trading up for BTJR was definitely the move. Could have easily been done with the 2025 Diggs pick, and we wouldn't have had to burn a 2025 3rd rounder on a half season of Amari Cooper. Josh would have an alpha burner to open everything else up on a cost controlled contract for 5 years 😭😭😭

Does Brandon Beane have a crystal ball? How was he to know that the Eagles would make one of the biggest draft errors by picking Reagor before Jefferson?
The picks he traded for Diggs along with the 1st rounder would have been enough to move into the 13-ish range, didn't have to sit there crossing his fingers that a stud would fall. Tee Higgins & Michael Pittman Jr. would have been options if he had stayed at 22 regardless of whether Jefferson was still there.

I was visiting my parents not long ago and went to a planet fitness as a guest of my dad. I walked in there, and saw a bunch of guys in at least their mid-60’s who were absolutely shredded, veins popping, etc. It never occurred to me until then that this might not be natural.I played pickup pickleball last night with a totally random guy who jumped in and completely schooled me & my friends. I made a passing joke like "I'm getting old" at the end (I'm 41) and he went on a rant about how he just turned 60 and me and my friends all need to get on testosterone supplements, he started when he was 45 and wished he'd done it sooner. Like he would not let it go, he was adamant that we do it. Honestly it was a great advertisement for it, the guy was absolutely shredded and looked as young or younger than me. It was pretty eye opening not gonna lie.

It is fun. Go to Reggie's in the south loop to pregame and take their buses RT to and from the stadium. You can take the el to Reggie' s from your hotel. Green line McCormack stop. They have a buffet there as well. Tons of Bills fans there last preseason game in chicago . The owner of Delilahs which is a Bills bar in Lincoln Park is friends with the Reggies team.
Delilah's might be the best Bills bar on the planet

After hearing that he was turning heads at mini-camp I thought I'd take a closer look. Some have commented that his college tape is unimpressive. I disagree. Some college receivers benefit from scheme touches, pre-snap motion and free releases. Prather was used almost exclusively outside, facing press coverage and battling DBs for contested balls. And that's what Beane specifically wants him to do, even if eventually he shows that can also line up and work from the slot. For now Beane is not looking for him to operate at all field levels but certainly they are at least aware of his proven ability to run in breaking routes after selling the vertical.
Prather tests as a decent but in no way exceptional athlete (RAS 7.68). He has been criticized for an alleged lack of explosion as evidenced by his 30" vertical and 9'6" broad jump but I think that needs to be reexamined. His vertical, while disappointing, is perhaps partially offset by his truly remarkable ability to adjust to the ball at the catch point. Nobody in his draft class does it as well as he does. And he does start out with a height advantage over the guys who will be covering him.
Although his combine vertical and broad jump suggest a lack of explosive power/lower body strength his ten yard split, 1.53, is elite (Brian Thomas' was 1.55, Justin Jefferson's 1.57) and his 20 yard split, 2.64, is also very good (Thomas' was 2.53, Jefferson's 2.61). Ill take those over his broad jump all day. His hand size/wingspan check out ok.He is a developmental player who probably belongs on the practice squad but if he truly shines in OTAs and preseason games Bills may have to make a decision. Word gets around. Of course he won't be getting much in the way of reps so he will have to make the most of his opportunities.
Beane's draft strategy was based on addressing perceived needs and some of his later picks are clearly seen as roll players. Prather is in that group. He may not make it of course but he was an excellent 7th round pick.I think some of those figures might be off slightly but point taken. I'd like to see what this guy's got and I hope he makes it

I may be wrong on this, but I was under the impression that "Unlikely to be attained" just means that the levels of those metrics in question (i.e. Number of TD's, receptions, yards, etc...) are higher than the player's previous season.
For example, Moore has one TD last year. If the incentive was 2 TD's, then it would be considered "Unlikely to be Attained", based on the previous season (even though with Allen tossing the ball, on Brady's offense, one would imagine that they ARE, in fact, likely to be attained).
I believe that's how it works. Only incentive metrics that are at or below the previous season's would count against the cap.
yep, the unlikely to be attained count against the next year's cap though if they are achieved

My hope & prediction
CB1: Benford
CB2: Hairston
Nickel1: Taron
Reserves: Tre White & Dorian Strong (boundaries) Daequan Hardy (nickel2 + punt return)
Safeties: Rapp, Bishop, Forrest, Hancock (high end Cam Lewis role), Wande Owens (special teams & developmental)

Yes, the fact that list has him as a slot is silly. He’s an outside guy.
I think that has him listed as Z1 but point taken. Ideally I'd like to see a lot of Palmer at X, Moore at Z, and Shakir in the slot with Keon backing up at X and Samuel as the Z/Slot backup (with Keon also capable of playing big slot)

We've got a decent amount of bodies going into camp. Heres the depth chart projections as of now:
There will be serious competition for every WR Spot that isnt Shakir's. Like any FA/draft addition, starting spots won't be given to new comers. Keon, Palmer, Samuel, somewhat Moore, Shenault, Virgil, Shavers, Hamler, Prather will all be competing for the 2 outside WR jobs. Obviously there are some favorites to win those starting spots; but I expect it to be a real dog fight. Quite a few guys at the bottom of WR roster that were considered projects, who have been PS long enough they need to make a real push for the 53 man, or they might not get invited back to PS even.
I expect those guys to get a legitimate shot to win a starting job. What they do with the opportunity will depend on them, and their development over the last few years. There are essentially 9 dudes competing for 2 spots: Keon and Palmer are the favorites to win, and I hope they ball out, and give Coach no choice but to start them! But Im especially hoping Moore, Samuel, Virgil, Shavers and Hamler help push them. Whoever ends up the #3 outside guy, will see tons of playing time too!
Can Palmer play X? otherwise Keon at X1 with Shenault and Prather behind does not count as competition in my book. It actually looks like a gaping hole with a major question mark at X1

I'd be more than happy with:
#56 Olu Oladejo
#62 Joshua Farmer
Would also be fine with a small trade back to round 3 from #62 with a wager that Farmer gets there, with proceeds used to trade up into the back end of R3 using 109 to get a guy like Nohl Williams or maybe a value safety that inexplicably drops like Mukuba

I love WRs! WRs rock. You can get what we lack on day 3 this year though. This class is stocked with difference makers on DLine, load up early. We missed on BTJR last year, it is what it is. Get one early if there's a high end stud next year.

How does this compare to the rest of the league during that span?
They probably all have a losing record collectively, imo.
QB rushes (which is where Balt and KC made their money against us last playoff run) isn't generally a function of not having a big fat tub of goo at 1t, but the EDGEs poorly containing.
Ah i got what you are saying.
You are saying that when they build the board, they are already accounting for subjective stuff like off the field/character/medical/need etc etc and that level of subjectivity in the board from the jump puts you further away from true BPA before the draft even starts.
Fair take then.
Agreed, which is why you need DTs that can collapse the pocket from the middle if your edges are playing contain

Looks to me they are ready for a project to develop under the veterans White and Jackson
I may not like drafting in the 1st round a CB project. It's still a need to win football games this season. They are drafting one. Where !? WHEN ?
Or maybe it's insurance so they can take a stud DLineman at 30 then a project like Darien Porter in the 2nd plus a CB double dip on day 3. I wouldn't mind Tre mentoring in a situation like that, not one bit

1. Brandon Beane leaves a critical position undermanned, telegraphing to every other team in the league that we want to draft a player at that position with our first or second round pick and forcing our hand in doing so even if the true Best Player Available plays a different position.
2. Stop me if you've heard this one before: Having only Dane Jackson penciled in as one of your starting outside corners and thus being forced to draft a cornerback late in the first even though there are better players on the board.
Two different ways of describing the same problem, I suppose. Good thing there's no precedent for this issue, and that history never repeats...
Hopefully the lesson was learned there and a trade back + CB double dip would be the move
Darien Porter (the Riq Woolen of this draft) in a trade back plus a higher floor CB on day 3 would be the way to go. Then use the addtional ammo from the trade back to move up in round 2 to hit the DLine twice.
