  1. I do not know your definition of a "rocker chick", but if you are looking for a woman who writes the lyrics and songs, sings and plays lead guitar, and is the frontperson of a (sometimes) hard-rocking band, I would nominate Kristin Hersh. No, her looks won't blow anybody away, but her musical ability should. Kristin started the Throwing Muses in the mid-1980s with her stepsister Tanya Donelly, and has since fronted a variety of bands, mostly trios, under several names. Some examples:

  2. How much do looks play a role? Here is the (virtually unknown) Bevis Frond with Nick Saloman on lead guitar and vocals, and he writes most of their original songs.

His guitar skills are extraordinary. Unfortunately, he looks like an offspring of the hunchback of Notre Dame. Would they have more success outfitted like Kiss or Cheap Trick?

Or imagine Taylor Swift presenting these songs...

  3. Another often overlooked gem: Kingfish. While they certainly benefitted from Bob Weir's presence in the line-up, the concert clips show that he was just one of the guys. The stars were Robbie Hoddinott on lead guitar, Dave Torbert on bass and lead vocals (he also wrote most of their original songs), and Matt Kelly on harmonica.

  4. Considering the ubiquity of Japanese cars, songs mentioning them are rare. Here is one by my favorite obscure band, the Scaramanga Six.

Hanging 'round, 'cos there's nothing to do
    And I love you
    In your dirty Subaru
    In your dirty Su-ba-ru
    I'll do whatever you do
    'cos I love you
    In your dirty Subaru
    In your dirty-dirty-dirty-dirt-

    Hot Rod Lincoln

I like the band very much, and Lincoln is a nice addition. I can give you a Lincoln Continental, featured by Tony Joe White.

Now the jailer had been a poor man
And now his pockets were stuffed with money
And he was sitting outside in a brand new Continental Lincoln
    With famous skirts on it

  6. I wanna tell you how it's gonna be
You're gonna give your love to me
I wanna love you night and day
You know my love will not fade away
You know my love will not fade away
    Not fade away

My love's bigger than a Cadillac
I try to show you but you drive me back
Your love for me has got to be real
You're gonna know just how I feel
    Love's real, not fade away
    Not fade away

  7. The world's a tiny blue-green ark

    Afloat in darkest space.

And every creature lives his time

    And knows his special place

And each of us is Noah

With a life all in our care

    To keep against the darkness

    That's flooding everywhere

  8. Talking Head's "Girlfriend Is Better" which contains the line that gave Jonathan Demme's 1984 concert movie masterpiece its name "Stop Making Sense".

And here a surprisingly competent version by the cover band "HeartByrne".

  9. I got a girlfriend that's better than this
But you don't remember at all
As we get older and stop making sense
You won't find her waiting long
Stop making sense, stop making sense
    Stop making sense, making sense
I got a girlfriend shes's better than that
And nothing is better than this (Is it?)

  10. They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got

    Can't you see
It's not me you're dying for?
    Now she's feeling more alone
    Than she ever has before

    She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
    She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

  11. Eight miles high, and when you touch down
You'll find that it's stranger than known
Signs in the street, that say where you're going
Are somewhere just being their own

Nowhere is there warmth to be found
Among those afraid of losing their ground
Rain gray town, known for its sound
    In places, small faces unbound

  12. A while ago, we had another thread about "all-star bands". This one would certainly qualify. A rock'n'roll medley fronted by Leslie West (Mountain) and Alvin Lee (Ten Years After), with Steve Hunter and Stewart Copeland (Police) on drums. But you can also catch glimpses of Steve Howe (Yes) on acoustic guitar and some others, such as Robbie Krieger (Doors), Pete Haycock (Climax Blues Band), Ted Turner and Andy Powell (both Wishbone Ash), and Randy California (Spirit) on tambourine (they probably ran out of guitars).

  13. There've been so many girls that I've known
I've made so many cry and still I wonder why
Here comes the little girl, I see her walking down the street
She is all by herself, I try and knock her off her feet
'Cause she'll never break, never break, never break, never break
    This heart of stone
Oh, no, no, no, this heart of stone

  14. I bought the Mississippi River
Of course that don't include the towns
    Or the people
    Around the Mississippi
Well, to cinch the deal the man threw
    In a boat with crew
And then I knew I'd better grab that
    River fast
    It wouldn't last
They never do, they never do
    It wouldn't last, last, last

  15. … I'm a-gonna raise a fuss
    I'm a-gonna raise a holler
    About a-workin' all summer
Just to try to earn a dollar

… Every time I call my baby
    Try to get a date
My boss says, "No dice, son
    You gotta work late"

    … Sometimes I wonder
    What I'm a-gonna do
    But there ain't no cure
    For the summertime blues

  16. Seventy-three men sailed up
    From the San Francisco Bay
Rolled off of their ship, and here's what they had to say
"We're callin' everyone to ride along to another shore
We can laugh our lives away and be free once more"

But no one heard them callin'
    No one came at all
'Cause they were too busy watchin' those old raindrops fall
As a storm was blowin' out on the peaceful sea
Seventy-three men sailing off to history

  17. The Fugs - the anarchists of the 1960s. Some of them remained active. Here is Tuli Kupferberg in 1999 with his interpretation of the 10 commandments.

Still, their best opus was the "nothing" song, here live in 2016.
