I think this will be Gabe's best season of his career, one way or another because walk years generally create a "me against the world" motivational scenario.

But I don't think he can be the Bills long term solution as WR2.   I think as a boundary-exclusive WR2....4 targets per game kinda' guy, yes........but as clearly the 3rd or 4th option.

In that scenario I think the slot guy or TE needs to be amazing to draw 80-120 targets or that guy needs to be a true all-around WR who can play the slot or move outside and threaten CB's on almost every route.    Like Emmanuel Sanders was when he was younger.

Gabe's comp is Marquez Valdes-Scantling.......their games(and stats) are remarkably similar.   Nobody would look at MVS from an outside fan perspective and say that guy is a long term solution at WR2 in KC.   He has a clearly defined role and that's the same role Gabe should have, IMO.

Our expectations for Gabe got way too high.  He's long legged and stiff without natural hands and often exhibits inexplicably poor technique for an NFL WR.  His always-injured ankle doesn't help matters but he's not breaking opposing DB's off on short routes either way, that's not his game.

He's a long strider and with great size who can eat up nickel and dime DB's who aren't built to mirror him on his longer routes.   JA17 brings out the best in Gabe because his huge arm creates tons of extra real estate for Gabe to use.   He's basically playing on a bigger field than most WR because of it.  And also because the time that Allen buys allows Davis to get open in ways he'd never have time to with a quick release pocket statue QB.

It's reasons like this that I've also compared Gabe to a modern day Alvin Harper.   Harper just got to do the things he did well in Dallas because the running game and their other receiving options made it so.   His stats said he was a WR1 and he got paid like that by Tampa and then asked to play against better corners and with much less room to work and he became one of the all-time worst free agent signings of the 1990's.

Just a disagreement of opinion is all from me. The comparison with Harper is wrong on so many levels, except he was a horrible signing (much like many of the Cowboys who walked).
Gabe has shown he can play, like manny other players around the league a good QB makes anyone look better. Brady, Farve, Rodgers, Elway all done it at some point with WRs.
To my eyes KD has to do better and from what people said the deep throws due to 17s injury didn’t help end of year. Gabe will be fine if the team opens up the field and vice-versa, he will pull coverage from others.

eh, it’s both. If I’m bad at my day job, it could be because I’m simply incompetent. Or it could be because my manager is awful, I never received the training or instruction on how to complete my duties, or I may not even know what is expected of me. A coaches job, like a managers, is to put their players in the best position to succeed. If guys are running the wrong routes because the scheme is needlessly complex, or they have insufficient instruction, aren’t on the same page, etc etc, that is a failing of coaching as much as it is the player.

Players don’t get to this level and rely on coaches for all that is done. Your statements make it sound as if they were complete baboons in losses. Sure they have to work together and be on same page, I’d venture to say more games are lost due to players inability to perform or rather lack of execution.

If I broadcast something from the practice and it results in the loss of the credentials needed to do my job, I don't really have the right to broadcast something from the practice.

    Get it?

These guys are in the press.  They trump internal policies of the Bills.

I'm speaking as a lawyer, for what that's worth.

Then as a lawyer you should also realize a private business does not even have to allow the press into practice. Rules really are not that hard to follow. Company policies can and are interpreted as law in several industries.

Man you are completely missing the point. 😅

Von was/is a proven player. I’m not missing the point, I get it and actually would like to see DHop. Too many narratives out there that Bills front office don’t try is as silly as the majority of your hot takes.

Diggs wasn’t a chance, it was going to get a proven player.

Same for Von, how’d that work out last year. All players are chances, your going to have risks in any acquired players…except the ones you don’t take I guess..

Beane takes chances every year and they never Pam out, it’s why our oline is as bad as it is. He took a chance last year giving Davis and McKenzie the opportunity they got, ***** didn’t Pam out also. Sorry if no one is excited about 4 year vets who haven’t done anything but show a couple flashes at this point. Team wants to win a superbowl at some point you gotta just got get that guy instead of giving guys chances.

The Diggs chance didn’t pan out? I don’t think it’s accurate to say never pan out. They are going to be hot and miss for every team.

AGAIN.......the Chiefs have invested more in finding their #2 receiving option.

They have 3 recent early picks fighting to hopefully become their #2 option.......or at worst their #3 if one of them can't beat out MVS.

The Bills have just 1.   All of their eggs are in the Kincaid basket and he's an actual rookie.

And the Chiefs have been to 5 straight AFC Championship games and 3 SB's and won 2 of them.

So yeah even if 3 wasn't more than 1.........only a fool wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt over any other team in the NFL.

Where some Bills fans(who obviously don't follow the rest of the NFL closely) have gotten really stupid is with these expectations that Harty and/or Sherfield are going to be studs.     Every team has role players like them on the back half of their WR corps.   You probably never even heard of either of these undrafted players until the Bills signed them.   Occasionally,  but very rarely, does one of these guys go from being super low producer for their first 4-5 years or for their first 3 teams(like Sherfield).

The likelihood remains that Gabe Davis will be the Bills #2 receiver option again this year.    That's rightfully concerning considering how inefficient the Bills were when targeting him last year.    He had one of the worst catch rates in the NFL,  the second most drops of any NFL receiver and Allen's passer rating plummeted when throwing to him and a ton of his INT's were created when throwing to Gabe.

Right. Dance around the actual point that a team has to take chances in order to get lucky. It’s dribble and hindsight to say well this team has done this or that and the other teams have done nothing.
You assume a lot also, don’t let that get the way of the constant negativity peppered in with tons of hindsight. I’m not one for digging but I can think of 2 Ints of McKenzie easily. Davis didn’t lose the season for the team.  Again not a snap has been taken yet and they’ve already been beaten in your eyes.
I’m sure Hopkins would be a great addition, I’d like it. Just not sure it’s going to improve critical situations from a coaching stand point or keep the injury bug away from key positions.

The 1st and 2nd round picks haven't proven themselves as starters so far but they aren't rookies like Kincaid.   They were playing in a SB and catching TD passes on the biggest stage when Kincaid was recovering from a back injury and unable to workout during the draft process.   They should be ahead of him in their development.   The Chiefs also just drafted Rashee Rice with the 24th pick in round 2.   So the Chiefs have 3 high draft picks fighting for playing time while the Bills have just 1.    Their high pedigree eggs aren't all in one basket.

For veterans the Chiefs have Kelce and the faster version of Gabe Davis in Marquez Valdes-Scantling as options #1 and #3.  Richie James is their healthier-recently version of Deonte Harty coming off a 560 yard season with 80% completion when targeted in 2022.   Justin Watson is their version of Sherfield.

So they were catching balls, playing in the Super Bowl after doing what previously? Again the world wouldn’t know were they Not given the opportunity. KC probably could’ve figured something out for some kind of big name players, yet they took a chance on potential. Buffalo rolls the dice and gets questioned before a single down is played though. Weird…Let’s gamble, no…wait those are unproven for whatever reason…Here is a 1st round pick who’s flashed but can’t stay on the field…. Too risky…hard pass..

I removed Miami so that it's the CONSENSUS top 5 contenders according to the top Vegas sports books.    But I see Miami as by far the top contender against the Bills in the AFC East.

Doesn't change the point in any way whatsoever.

The only one of the Vegas top 5 who doesn't have a proven much better #2 weapon option right now are the champs...........and they have a 2021 #1 pick and a 2022 #2 pick at receiver that have experience now and are expected to step up.

I really liked the Kincaid pick.........but I'd put the chances of him hitting the ground running and being a top 25 NFL receiver as a rookie at closer to 10% than 20%.   Those are bad odds when you need it NOW.   Even Sammy Watkins.....handed WR1.......wasn't better as a rookie than Gabe was last year when Allens passer rating and interceptions thrown when targeting Gabe were huge disappointments.

Have those 2 picks that are expected to step up already proven so? Isn’t that the same exact argument you’re making against the additions to Buffalo? Seems confusing a bit.
Regardless, you’ll never find those gems that slide through the cracks if you don’t look.

I am pretty old. Kosar was simply not elite.  He was fun.  But no one expected championships because Kosar was your QB. No one is instantly a HOF coach.  So again, you seem to have no point.  Other than Joe Gibbs most HOF coaches are paired with HOF QBs during their championship runs.  Reid was not a sure fire HOF coach prior to Mahomes. Now he is. Bellichek may never have one any championships without Tom Brady.  Marv Levy was not a HOF coach without Jim Kelly. Josh Allen is on a level similar to Dan Marino.  If Allen never wins a superbowl his place in football history will be headlined by discussions of whether Allen or Marino was the best QB to never win a superbowl.  No one will ever put Bernie Kosar into that discussion.

Phil Sims HOF/Parcells, Elway/Reeves/Shannahan, Marino/Shula plenty of HOF pairs back then. Also a different game. Original point (I think since this is going back days) was BB had talented/capable players. I mean a SB was won with Trent Dilfer back in a different time as well. Nobody is going to confuse Jeff Hostetler as HOF talent. Different time and game that what we see today.

Denver had a bad coach (playoff failure reeves) Bernie was not an elite QB , so I don't get your point.

Bernie was considered elite…so was that defense. Look at the numbers BK put up for that time. Your either too young to remember out unwilling to admit BB was not an instant HOF coach

You forgot not addressing WR.   The biggest jumps in production that they got as a team were the two years they got serious about addressing the WR position with Brown, Beasley and then Diggs.    Letting the position decline has really cost them the past two regular seasons and in the playoff loss to Cinci.

Question, did you or anyone else think Smoke and a Beasely that many had wrote off would turn a QB who was dubbed “wrong Josh” into a perennial contenders? What’s to say this years additions aren’t enough?

The Niners roster is the best in the league, no debate. As someone said, their system is QB proof. Kyle Shanahan is the best outside of Andy Reid.  I fully expect Darnold to do well to start off the season until Purdy comes back. There’s a reason the Niners have the 3rd best odds to make the SB. Their defense was the best in the nfl and they added Hargrave. They have the best weapons in the league and CMC with a full offseason is scary to say the least.

The Bills even with Josh can’t compete with them in terms of roster quality overall if you look at the top end guys on the rosters. They’re LOADED with top end guys.

Not really arguing about this, more curious on the thought of Shannahan being second only to Reid. The guy has done amazing things but all I recall is blowing a major lead in a SB, then ending up second best as a head coach with another SB appearance. Since going to the 49ers his teams have been loaded and given It’s a “QB” friendly system, not that Jimmy G is bad IMO when he’s healthy.
i don’t get the love for KS and what seems to be tons of bashing on the Bills HC (not saying from you).
    Just looking for thoughts really.

What are there playoff percentages? How far do there teams advance in an average year. Regular season percentages have a lot to do with the division you play in, and the rest of your schedule. Also, McDermott has been blessed with a top QB for all but the first 1 1/2 years of his tenure.  Belichek had that in NE, and did much more with it. Reid never had that in Philadelphia. Once he has had that in KC, he has done much more with it.

Belichek had Bernie in Cleveland also. People forget it took him a while before he won the big show too. Denver has Elway for a million years and all it took was a defense and HOF running back to get the chip.

    Meh

the pass rush was dreadful so they needed someone but this guy was a bust until he got to play next to Aaron Donald.

my girlfriend could rack up 6-8 sacks playing next to Donald, Floyd won’t have that luxury here

Is she Available at a better price though?
