  1. Waht is your beef with this guy? Did he rape your mom and sister while kicking your dog in the face?

What other TE is out there that would have been a better choice?

I guess the question I have is why did we need another tight end? And if we did, why wasn't he picked up last week or at any other time after his release from Seattle prior to the season.

I have nothing personal against Mr. Murphy, who I am sure is a man of high character. I just wonder how a tight end, who has no practice time or experience of any note, is going to help this team over the next six weeks.

    And FYI, I don't have a dog.

  2. We are estimated to be approx. 32 million under the 2007 cap of 109 million. Nate could easily be signed by providing a split of a signing bonus of say $7 million and a roster bonus due the first day of the season of say $8 million. On a seven year deal that would give him a cap figure this year of approx. $9 million and put $15 million in his pocket by Labor Day. As noted above, the Vikings did a similar manuever with A. Winfield two years ago when they had a good deal of cap room and a cheap owner (Red McCombs). It would also allow the Bills to provide Nate with base salaries of say 3-4 million for the remaining 6 years so that the contract is manageable under the cap and still rich enough for "The Playmaker". It would also allow Ralph to keep his Monet as the roster bonus money would come from the 2007 TV revenue.

This would also allow the Bills to remain approx 23-25 million under the cap to sign a quality LG (say, Eric Steinbach 5 yrs. 25-26 million, 8 million SB (similar to D. Woody deal) and OLB (Lance Briggs, who was drafted by Dick Jauron in 2003, 6 years, 30-32 million, 9 mill SB) (Similar to Spikes deal) Say good bye to 32 yr old London Fletcher, Move Crowell to MLB and assume Spikes, like Julian Peterson in Seattle, is much better two years after his Achilles tear......It would also allow further flexibility for extensions for McGahee and, if he continues to improve, JP Losman, during the next year.

I then think it imperative that the Bills go for a WR (Dwayne Jarrett or Ted Ginn) with their first pick, followed by an OT (Joe Staley from Cent. Mich.) in Round Two. Imagine splitting Ginn out on one side and Lee Evans on the other....

Now, I will retire to my kitchen to start my Thanksgiving feast and hope to see Matt Murphy catch 3 TDs on Sunday!

  3. This rumor sure seems to be geting a good deal of play at the Bucs boards.....trade him now for McFarland and a third. Then play Greer and Thomas until after the bye when Youboty is thrown into the fire.....and I don't care if we lose the rest of this year...it only means we can draft Joe Thomas the OT from Wisconsin.

  4. Spikes has, in my opinion, always been a bit overrated and a bit of a loud mouth (anyone notice how mny winning teams he has been on in his years in the NFL) and should not be relied upon for the rest of this year....something tells me he will have a couple other pulls, strains, due to his injury from last year.....

And with Fletcher turning 32 and Spikes turning 30 within the next year, it is time to start looking at LBs in the 2007 draft.

  5. As I feel this is a rebuildingf year wherein we should look not for playoffs but improvement from Game 1 throughGame 16, the Week 1 prediction follows:

    Week 1 predict

    Pats 34

    Bills 14

    JP 12/22 156yds 1 td 2int

and then use this game as a measuring stick for JP's progress when they meet in Week 7 in Buffalo immediately before the Bills' bye week

    Week 7 predict

    Bills 24

    Pats 20

    JP 16/25 212yds 2 TD 1int

  6. I see two seasons for JP, one before the bye (7 games) and then after (9 games)

    Before Bye

    7games 1300yds 8TD 9INT 57% completion Bills record 2-5

    After Bye

    9 games 2000 yds 12TD 9INT 61% completion Bills record 5-4

    Overall

    16 games 3300 yds 20TD 18INT 59.6% completion Bills record 7-9

  7. That statement ignores reports that several teams directly below Buffalo would have grabbed Whitner if the Bills traded down.  I'd also like to know the details of these "generous" offers Levy spurned.

I think Marv's history is that he looks to replace departed starters if there is not a viable replacement already on the roster.  Nothing more.

Bill, I don't believe I've ever offered an opinion on how to build a winning football team, so I don't know how you'd make that assessment.  Where I "differ" is in how I get tired of reading the same thing, day after day, from certain posters -- even if their statements are well reasoned.  This is true whether or not I agree with those same statements.  I also don't "blindly" support the decisions of management, but I'm willing to wait and see rather than blast them prematurely.

Bill, every time you go down this road, you oversimplify the facts to "support" your distaste for how Buffalo has run its' drafts.  I'm not saying I agree with every pick that has been made, but at the time they were made seemingly logical arguments could be offered to support the selections.  A pick I'm sure you were thrilled with -- Mike Williams -- really didn't turn out so well.

I agree completely.  I think Jauron and Levy have a plan, and while that plan did not include drafting the players you prefer, we owe them an opportunity to show us the product before lambasting their decisions.

  8. I was just searching ESPN.com and came across their schedule of visiting each NFL Team during training camps.

The list of "visits" is below:

ESPN.com's training camp tour is back for the seventh straight year. ESPN.com senior writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli and Michael Smith will be traveling all over the country to bring you the latest news on all 32 NFL teams. Check the list below to see when their reports will run.

Now, isn't it interesting that Tom Donahoe's best friend, Mr. Pastabelly, is visiting the Giants in Albany, the Jets in Hempstead and then hopping over to Cleveland, while the Bills report will be written by Michael Smith while they are at an away pre-season game in Charlotte...

I'm sure that based upon the above, the WorldWide Leader will have a great feel for the tone of Bills camp....

Maybe they figure that since half of Buffalo has moveed to the Carolinas anyway, it will seem like a second home?

  9. I think he's a perfect fit for the new defense and I subscribe to the Huddle Report who indicatethe following in regards to DW:

    Strengths

Donte is one of the better tacklers in this draft. He is a head up, wrap up, squeeze and drive tackler. He has really good speed, size and shows an excellent burst to the ball. He has good hands to go for the interception and shows impressive overall instincts for his position.

    Needs to Improve

Donte is listed at 205 lbs, but he doesn’t look like he's that big. He must get stronger in the lower body so that he can finish his tackles better. He has trouble with the drive portion of his tackling techniques. Donte is tight in the hips and has to work more on his cover skills for the next level.

    Bottom Line

If you want a safety set to go for a two-deep zone coverage defense, don’t think twice about drafting Donte. That is the system that he can handle right away and impact for you. He has good athleticism and I believe that after a few years, he will develop into a decent cover safety. He was made for the two-deep zone defenses that you see right now and if you're smart, you will draft him and worry about the other things later. He shows some leadership skills, but because he was in the Ohio St defense, I would suspect there were a lot of leaders, so you might find out that he has more to show in this area than you think. Donte has to get stronger, but he looks on film to be a tough kid and there are some games that he played in where he was one of the best players on the field. That is not easy when you have two potential 1st round picks playing with you. This kid will be able to come in and help a team right away and just might start for the team that picks him despite the fact that he is a junior and coming out early. Now, what more could you ask for in a draft pick than a ready-made two-deep zone safety that can tackle and intercept the ball? He’s not perfect, but he is ready-made. Donte (Ready-Made) Whitner!
