    Way over his head?

DC's have to be experts in offensive schemes.  How can you stop an offense if you don't understand it?  And who is better equipped to scheme against a defense than a defensive expert?   I think it's safe to say that McD knows more about NFL offenses than 99.9999 of the people on the planet.

Put me in charge of an NFL offense and I'll be in way over my head.  McD is not in over his head.

Bill Belichick, former DC, tinkered with the Pats offense all the time.  On the whole, it worked out okay for him.

Why on earth are you responding to a post from 8 months ago, one that is unrelated to the current chatter in this thread?

Anyway, "way over his head" was probably a poor choice of wording, fair. Sure, any head coach knows a ton about football and NFL offenses generally. You missed the whole point of the argument though, which is that McDermott is not a football savant who is going to be tinkering with the XS and os of an offense, period.  He would be the first to admit that.  He's not Andy Reid or Bilicheck. He's really hard worker, great defensive mind/DB developer, and good at building culture. I'm sure he has some overall say in offensive strategy, philosophy, situational play calling etc., as any head coach, but just stop with this idea that he is going to cook up some new wrinkles in our offense that will put us over the top. He has no experience working with/developing QBs either.

    No, we should not.

Connor McGovern has started one (1) game in the NFL at C.  One.

Clapp has started a whopping 12 or 14 games at C.

Even if they think McGovern will be better at C than Clapp and that Edmunds will be adequate at LG, it's not worth it to leave ourselves with a 1 game guy and a 0 game 5th round rookie (who needs technique development)  as our options at C.

I don't think the Bills brass is as concerned as you are. They never would have traded away Bates if they weren't very comfortable with McGovern at Center. He may have only played 1 snap in the NFL at center but remember he originally committed to Penn St. as a center out of highshool, and is very comfortable there, he says he feels it's his natural position. Also, Edwards has already proven he's a very capable starting guard, not only with the Rams but with the Bills last year as well. I do agree that the extra interior depth Clapp provides is nice but if the Bills feel good about Van Pran (who was a 3 year starter at Georgia, not like he's a super high risk 1 year starter in college), and we could get like a 3rd or 4th for Clapp, we would be crazy not to. Clapp will absolutely not be a starter barring some serious injuries on the interior, he is purely depth, but he may be worth a lot more to Chargers than to us.

  3. Chargers all pro center expected to retire due to medical reasons.  https://www.yahoo.com/sports/chargers-release-center-corey-linsley-174945900.html

Clapp might be of interest to them given they will have limited options now post-draft to find an adequate replacement and he is familiar with the scheme/started some games for them at C last couple years. Given the Van Pran pick, we may have enough depth at Center now.  Would love for the Bills to capitalize on their neediness and trade Clapp to the chargers for a mid (if not early-mid) round pick in 2025.

If he's such a "stone-cold killer on the football field," then why the lack of high-end production.

Talk is cheap this time of year.  Let's hope it translates to the field.  A lot of people have their doubts.

I get the sense you are one of the those with doubts lol. He had great production in the back to back years he started at two different schools with two very different offenses, including his first and only year at FSU having to learn a new offense on a run first team. If you watched the film it was clear he was very important to that offense. Many great NFL players didn't have high end production in college, where a lot of times production is scheme dependent.  Calvin Johnson would have had 100+ catches and 2000 yard per season if he didn't play for Ga Tech.

No hard feelings man, I think you are just missing that times have changed. Having a bundle of streaming services is the new cable. It's not an expense only the wealthy can afford. People are spending more on a single fast food meal than what it would cost to get Netflix for the month to watch the games (assuming you don't have it already, which most even non-wealthy people do, or get some type of free trial, or have someone let you use their login). The NFL is not cutting out anyone, that's just a silly take.

You mean like any good business ever? Cmon man, this is an entertainment business. Netflix has the reach of hundreds of millions of subscribers.  It's not a random platform.  This is good business.  Just like the international exposure to generate more interest worldwide. Long term, it's good for the NFL and indirectly benefits the Bills.  People have to get over this stuff. I don't understand the pouting on this board over these kinds of things.

Unless they do another change or Floyd or Davis miss an extended period of time next year - we'll get those picks.

We didn't get the 3rd for two reasons. 1.) They on a whim decided to change the formula and incorporate things like void year money instead of just the strict cap number it was before - choosing to do it retroactively instead of going forward and 2.) Edmunds missed some time.

Beane said they were talking to the league all year and they told him he was getting a 3rd, until they randomly decided to change the qualifications at the buzzer. I don't think they're going to do that again this year.

It is wrong. Our picks are as follows:

    1

2 (from Minnesota via Houston for Diggs)

    2

    3

    4

    4 (from Green Bay for a 2024 5th)

    4 (Compensation for Davis)

    5 (Compensation for Floyd)

    6

6 (from NYG for Basham and our 2025 7th)

Our 5th was traded to Houston as part of the Diggs trade.

Isn't our extra 4th from Chicago (rather than GB)?

Not saying anything about you being right/wrong here...but can you provide an example of what you see that makes you believe this? Maybe a link to an interview you've seen that shows it? Or something?

This isn't coming from one specific example, but collection of public appearances since the incident occurred (interviews, red carpet events, etc). He's been soaking up his time in the spotlight, and good for him personally. But this is not someone that has been humbled by a traumatic experience and now has his head down focused on football. He's a glorified celebrity that probably won't play another meaningful NFL down. I doubt we will get anything for him, and you hate to cut him PR wise, but as a football move it probably will be necessary absent a bad safety injury in camp.

How is it good for the NFL beyond selling merchandise?

They can't expand much beyond 32 teams as there aren't even 32 QBs who can realistically hope for a Lombardi.  There are not enough very good players for the summer leagues today to get good viewership.

If moving existing teams to Europe how will that be fair? Would the euro team(s) have all 8 away games in a row or would they be jet lagged most of those away games?  How would playoffs go?

I think you are missing the broader economic picture here.  I'm not talking about expansion of teams or merchandise. This is about worldwide interest in the NFL and generating more tv dollars, which is the vast majority of the NFL's revenue.  Why do you think the NBA was so intentional about Chinese interest? They aren't putting an NBA team in China. They make billons off the TV dollars though. The NFL is trying to expand the their viewership worldwide. This is no secret, they have been very intentional and public about this (and its common business sense).

Wow! Everybody hatin' on this guy already? I'll give him a chance. Go Keon! Make them eat their words.

BTW, DHop ran a 4.57s 40 at the combine. TO ran a 4.65. Best ball skills in the draft. I'll compare him to KB if and when he fails. Until then I'll give him a chance to work on his route running. He's 20 and lacking in experience. I see a lot of room for growth.

This exactly.  I see all these terrible, lazy comparisons to Kelvin Benjamin, who is nothing like Keon Coleman if you have actually followed his college career and watched the film.  Keon is a complete receiver. TO and DHOP are much better comps. Complete receivers that play faster in comparison to other receivers in an actual football games vs a non-football exercise run in track shorts.  Speed will never be his primary attribute, but it will never be an issue either. Let's face it, Diggs wasn't particularly fast himself. Before the combine, Keon was sure fire first rounder based on his film. He's a very safe bet to be a fantastic NFL receiver.

Yes, hopefully they learned that big slow receivers don’t make it in the NFL.

Keon Coleman is nothing like Kelvin Benjamin, that's a lazy comparison. Coleman plays a lot faster than his forty time, and he's a better overall receiver than Benajmin was.  Watch the film.

    Harrison Jr

    Nabers

    Odunze

    Thomas Jr

    Mitchell

    Franklin

I'll be disappointed if it isn't one of these guys and the odds are that only 2 or 3 of them will be hits.

    That's the risk.

*Still holding on to hope of a Justin Jefferson trade

I would add Mcconkey and Leggette in there just ahead of Franklin but otherwise agree with this. If we could get any two from that list in the 1st and 2nd I would be over the moon.  Otherwise, one of those and a potential starting safety would be great as well.

Please, dear Lord, DO NOT let the Bills draft Keon Coleman. PLEASE.

I watched a lot of Coleman this past year (I'm a Clemson alumni but watch a lot of ACC/college games in general), and I know he isn't popular on this board, but I have to say, this is guy that plays faster that he ran in the 40.  He's an excellent, NFL ready receiver. He tore Clemson up and Clemson has some legit, NFL corners. He could come in right away and be our starting #2WR and be an upgrade over Gabe Davis day 1. He does not have breakaway speed or burst, but he has football speed and elite route running/body control, and is sure handed. Don't get my wrong, I covet an electric receiver for the Bills prob more than most (I've been screaming for it for the last 2 years, even with Diggs), and still think we need a true #1 with elite athleticism/upside type, but wouldn't be upset if the Bills got Coleman, and you shouldn't be either. He going to be a good NFL receiver.  My ideal scenario is that they grab one of Thomas Jr/Worthy/Legette/Franklin/McConkey in round 1, and are able to grab Coleman in round 2.

Then No.  League Min is what he is worth for the Bills in this window with the Draft Rich position of WR that they have 11 picks in.

Does he play ST like Hollins does?

He actually does return kicks/punts (was the primary punt return for a while at Clemson) so can be used for that but his main contribution would be in the slot.  We clearly disagree on his value, I''ll leave it at that.  Hollins is a complete different position/role, wouldn't affect us signing a veteran slot like Renfrow one way or the other.  We are clearly going to draft WRs as well, this much is obvious (and we damn well better draft one in the first and move up if necessary).  Doesn't preclude a couple safe vet FAs on minimal deals.
