    Great post!

Why does the Bills Mafia and TBD get so emotionally attached to players after a mediocre season, in their 30's!

Rex Ryan inherited the #2 defense in the NFL from 2014. He proceeded to then turn them into a middling group in 2015 and hired his idiot brother to coach with him in 2016. He wouldn't have gotten this team to the Playoffs multiple times in a row, more or less win multiple division titles in a row. One of the most overrated coaches of all time.

Seriously, he had the defense and the coordinator Schwartz who got the best out of Mario Williams and Marcel Darius, Ryans ego sank him!

Gilmore hurt because they got NOTHING for him and it was basically a certainty that he would be excellent and win a SB with NE.

The Watkins trade was demoralizing because they had had a very good scoring offense that also lead the NFL in big plays in both 2015 and 2016..........and the Watkins trade basically guaranteed that they were going back to the stone age offensively.    I can't unsee those horrible 2017 and 2018 offenses.   Just disgusting terrible football.

Call Doctor Phil, he can help!

As for trading Diggs, we like to think he's still 2022 or 2021 Diggs, but he's not that guy anymore, and next year he won't even be 2024 Diggs.  Beane does have a heart but he's also a calculating and farsighted planner.

Bill Polian once said the Buffalo Bills made a habit of keeping fan favorites after their prime and it hurt the team in the long run.

Disagree...not saying we are for sure better, but Diggs was a minor part of the offense second half the season and postseason.  Our offense was fine and we went 6-1 to go from out of the playoffs to the 2 seed.

If we draft a rookie that gels well with Allen early that can help command some attention, then I very much believe this offense can be better.

You forget...yes we subtract Diggs...but we have Shakir entering now his 3rd year and poised for an even bigger role and we have Kincaid entering his 2nd season and taking on a bigger role, and Cook broke out last year and poised for a big role again.  We are not devoid of talent, and the young talent now has a year or two of experience and will be better than they were last year.

So net gain or loss with Diggs is not as extreme as people think.  And I think Samuel is a valuable addition too.

The key will be how much the rookie can contribute year 1...if he comes in and takes off right away I definitely think this is a better offense in 2024 than 2023.

The sky was suppose to fall after Sammy Watkins left, the emotional attachment to him lingered for years; many will be lamenting Diggs well into the 2030's.

Minnesots, Buffalo, now Houston, let's see how long utopis lasts for Diggs this time.

I remember when Jerry Rice was asked who the best receiver in the NFL was in the early 90s, he replied Andre Reed is 1 and i'm 1A!

Thanks for the reply, great speed, hands, a big heart, clutch player, never a malcontent, and consistent for over ten years!

If you can read Poyers quotes and not understand that he is gently pointing the blame at coaching, then you’re purposefully ignoring it.

Of course coaching wasn’t the only contributor. There were several. But coaching was the vast majority.

That Poyer quote about the squib kick and allowing a screen for 30 yards is about as clear as a player can get without saying “yeah the coaches screwed up”.

This rule has never been called and never will be called.

Teams do this all the time in crunch situations.

This rule is just an excuse people glammed onto once they realized we made a mistake by not holding.

    Drama Queens!!!!

Nice subjective reading.  He said "we all made mistakes."  He included himself.  Not just McDermott.

There is no question the team wasn't prepared for the moment, and that of course is on McDermott.   However, he said "we all made mistakes, and the clear implication is that a lot of different people could have done things differently.

What if the only difference between the Chiefs and the Bills were the quarterbacks for the last 4 years, Imagine Josh Allen on the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes on the Bills. It's my opinion that the Chiefs would still have won at least 2, possibly all 3 Super Bowls. I think the Bills still come up short even with Mahomes. I think Josh Allen would be talked about as the Goat instead of Mahomes. Organizations help make a player a champion, and the Chiefs organization is better than the Bills. Just one man's opinion, a longsuffering Bills fan.  😔

Madden & Cowher didn’t have the quarterback. Cowher made his first Super Bowl with Neil O’Donnell early in his coaching career. McDermott has his QB

Unless we are watching different versions of football, you need more than a super star QB to win a SB, ask Dan Marino and Don Shula. Madden had Lamonica and Stabler, brush up on your history! Oh ya, Jim Kelly, for those who strongly believe defense is not important and running game obsolete ask  Bill Parcells and Jeff Hostetler!

Andy Reid failed win a divisional game for 4 years with Alex Smith

Mike Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game, let alone lost in the divisional round, since 2016.

John Harbaugh has won 2 playoff games since 2014.

Big Ben has never beaten Tom Brady in the postseason.

    This is fun.

John Madden perennial playoff coach for 7 years starting in 1969 finally won the SB in 1976 . lots of playoof disapointment no talk of windows closing. Bill Cowher about ten years of playoff setbacks before winning the Super Bowl; this board fantasized about Bill Cowher coming during the drought!

    I think you're wrong.

Your evidence that he's feeling the pressure is based on you evaluation of his performance in a press conference.  He's ALWAYS been bad in press conferences.  He's uncomfortable, he doesn't like it, and he isn't good at figuring out how to give useful answers to questions without saying too much.

It's ridiculous, meaning it's fair to subject you to ridicule, for you to compare McDermott to Dick Jauron.  McDermott has built a perennial top-five favorite to win the Super Bowl, and Jauron went 7-9 three years in a row before the team fell apart.  There is NO meaningful comparison.

You're free to not like McDermott, but you're not going to convince anyone who knows football.  The 49ers aren't firing Shanahan and the Bills aren't replacing McDermott.

    The voice of reason!

My bias against McDermott is well documented.

Wondering how others view his post-season PC and recent interview calling critics narrow minded. He also stated its hard to win in the NFL. I recall a prior HC pilloried on this site for saying the exact same words.

My take on the PC was that he was very defensive. Without even being asked. He launched into a defense of his tenure as coach even dating back to prior seasons.

And now he calls critics narrow minded for wondering if the Bills will win a SB with him as HC. You have to belive at this point the thought has crossed Beane and Pegula's mind. He's trying to defend at best status quo to perhaps taking a step or two back from 13 seconds.

Then the most ridiculous statement of all.

"We're looking for Josh to really be that face of the franchise, like he's been, and continue to evolve."

I mean WTF. What team has he been coaching? Does he think Hyde and Poyer were the face of the franchise?? Is he trying to lay blame on Allen? Without Allen McDermott might be coaching DBs in Kansas City.  Was Allen on the field when the defense crumbled multiple times against Denver,Philadelphia, and others. KC only stopped themselves in the playoff game. If not for a goal line fumble the Bills are not even close in that game.

It may not seem that I'm open minded but I really try. I've gave McDermott praise many times last year.

So what does the board think?

For those that crucified Jauron how do you take the It’s hard to win in the NFL line?

For those that defend McDermott, what do you all think?

I think it's going to a long five months with many bored wanna be NFL experts with to much time!

Well, we knew this was coming. A "Re-Tool" of sorts. I think the Bills will have a mediocre year. I am more of a realist compared to posts above:

Miami - GOT STRONGER! Not sure what people are talking about here, but they added LB Jordyn Brooks, Center Aaron Brewer and CB Kendall Fuller not to mention Jonnu Smith at TE. Those are all above average players making them pretty strong. But... Tua. We will see but I think the Phins give us a tough run this year.

Then we have Steelers, KC, TEXANS, even Titans got stronger. Jets quietly had a good offseason so far too. If Rogers can play well, they will be a tough out. They beat us last year. Cincy and the Browns will be strong too.

So, I expect no playoffs or a first round loss. This Bills team has way too many holes, new coaches in important spots and a general feeling of swiss cheese.

    I hope I'm wrong.

We are lucky to have you keeping us straight and grounded in reality!
