Buffalo by itself is small. But the Bills are a regional franchise. There are millions more fans in nearby cities.
Tell me about them? Where are the numbers?
40 minutes ago, StHustle said:So you judge the national interest of the Bills based on games not show on national television?
IF you're the only NFL game on National TV you get tons of viewers. Even the Giants vs. Eagles do.
The original intent of the post was to THANK the Pegula's. They knew very well the limited National attention for the Bills.
Thanks again!

Mitch Morse was the best available center. That's how free agency works. You overpay for talent. Everyone has to. You can find bargains too, but they have to be unknown or overlooked players.
Murphy was perceived as an up and coming pass rusher (most people were quite happy with the signing at the time). The fact that he hasn't been great is not a reflection on the Bills overpaying to draw interest. It's a reflection on Murphy not being as good as most people thought he could be.
The only head scratcher to me has been Star getting a larger contract than I thought anyone else would pay. But we see how our run defense has suffered without him...
why did Butler, Jefferson and Addison all get $6 mil when they were very average NFL players.?? Stop being blinded by the LIGHT - - we're just another NFL franchise.

You are WAAAY off. Bills dominate ratings when we get nationally televised games...we also have become a destination free agents seriously consider. Sounds like you are just spewing out some perception crap
REALLY? Why do we have to over pay for free agents. This comes up on the board regarding Mitch Morse, Trent Murphy etc.

The Bills getting thr highest TV ratings in national games in many years last year tell you everything you need to know...Bills fans are everywhere.
aren't Giant, Patriots or Bears fans every where also. If the Bills play the Bengals what would the national TV audience be??

Outside of the Buffalo area the Bills are a low interest team. No matter how well they play they don't get National interest. That's why we pay more for Free Agents.
I have to agree about FA's. We have to BUY them regardless of the coaching staff and the Management. Nobody makes TV commercial money in Buffalo.

Thank You Terry & Kim. Purchasing the team to keep it in Buffalo and spending money to make it a first class NFL organization is such a blessing to WNY. The Bills as an asset on your balance sheet doesn't necessarily equate to big yearly profits.
Buffalo is the 52nd TV Market in the US. The only NFL franchise below us is in Green Bay.
51 Memphis 580,600 0.543 52 Buffalo 576,710 0.539 53 Ft. Myers-Naples 564,250 0.527 54 Richmond-Petersburg 555,630 0.519 Buffalo (all the 7 WNY counties and 2 in PA) have just 576,000 TV households. Our percentage of 0.539 = 1/2 of one percent of the National TV viewing audience.
The Bills getting PRIME TIME games is great! I bet the Giants, Jets & Cowboys hate it.
Again, Thank You Pegula's and GO BILLS!

ESPN certainly has its' problems...but in my opinion, NFLNetwork is pretty unwatchable too...it could be so much better.
I get more solid information about pro-football on this website compared to ESPN and the NFL network.

Booger is doing some post-game commentary for ESPN. How did they ever believe he was credible on their bigest game of the week?

One of ESPN’s longtime faces is leaving the network. Trey Wingo, who hosted “SportsCenter” and the network’s NFL Draft coverage over a two-decade tenure, is exiting the network after his contract was not renewed.
The decision not to re-up Wingo’s contract came as part of ESPN’s massive job cuts, the New York Post reported earlier this month (the NY Post also reported back in September that Wingo was being let go). The host’s departure was not confirmed until today, which is also his last day at the network.

When Eric Wood retired abruptly after the 2017 season the Bills needed a new Center.
First came Russell Bodine who was signed a a free-agent in 2018 after 4 years with the Bengals. I remember how his signing was disliked on this Board. He wasn't good!
When Bodine was injured during the season Ryan Groy took over as the starting Center. He was actually a guard. He didn't do the job either.
With Josh Allen on board the team needed an experienced Center who could protect their asset. Mitch Morse was signed to a 4 year / $44,500,000 contract in 2019. He was graded by PFF as the NFL's 6th best Center in '18. Now, his status with the Bills is in question.
NOW - the irony of it all.
The Bills traded Bodine for a 2020 6th round pick to the PATRIOTS. The team cut him one week later. The resulting 6th round pick is Isaiah Hodgins who was activated just this week by the Bills. He's a 6'4 receiver who could well help the team as a big target.
Now Bodine is a Center for the Detroit Lions and Groy is a Guard for the CHARGERS!
GO BILLS!

Per Forbes -
The NFL will lose $5.5 billion of stadium revenue (the sum of tickets, concessions, sponsors, parking and team stores) — or 38% of its total revenue — based on figures for the 2019 season. But the impact on the individual teams would vary greatly. For example, the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots would lose over half their total revenue while the Buffalo Bills, the Tennessee Titans and the Cincinnati Bengals would lose less than one-third.
Dallas will probably lose $621 mil in stadium revenue while the Bills are at a $104 mil loss.
Sometimes it's good to be a small market team without a luxury stadium to support!

I think our schedule says we are a really good team. The wins we have over other teams with winning records says we are a really good team. What I'm missing from the post is what teams are above us.
I can't get behind Josh Allen barely being a top 10 qb. Other than Mahomes and Rodgers who would you rather have right now? Wilson...I won't argue too hard. But the list of qbs better than Allen right now is not very long.
I agree with your comments. Being a 'top tier' team in the NFL is short-lived.
21 minutes ago, Alphadawg7 said:When are people going to learn to stop scouring stat sheets to make concrete evaluations. The OP and his thoughts are a clear example of coming to false conclusions based solely off stat sheet analysis. The Allen comment for one is a perfect example, saying he’s barely too 10 based on some stat rankings. He’s better off than that and the stat sheet doesn’t show the impact of not having John Brown, not having a run game, wearing a shoulder brace for 4 games, etc.
Another example missing from the team stats, it does not take into account strength of schedule thus far either. We are among the leaders (if not the leader) in most wins vs teams above .500 this year and had the 6th hardest schedule this year and the bulk of that tough schedule was over the first 10 games. And we were one fluke away from 8-2 during that stretch.
Team stats don’t show how many critical players we missed at times this year including all of our top 4 DBs missing a lot of games combined, Milano missing a lot of time, Edmunds missing time and playing hurt, etc.
Stat sheet also doesn’t measure up he heart of this team, which I will argue is amongst the best in the league.
End of the day, Allen is a top 5 QB right now, and this is a top end football team in the category with other 7/8 win teams. I actually think we may be a better team than Pittsburgh.
Sorry, just think this was not a thread I will have much common ground with, it’s a false negative in my mind. This was an attempt IMO by the OP to find stats that support their somewhat pessimistic view points more than anything. The OP tends to find negatives about recent Bills teams. He's a SB era guy!

Would love to see him turn into our own Mike Williams. Lord knows we could use a tall WR
He played well in training camp and the vet WR's spoke highly of him!

His size could make him an asset. He ran a slow 4.61 at the combine. NFL people thought the Bills stashed him on IR with a rather unknown shoulder injury. He never missed a practice before the cut-downs.

Yes, sir.
I always loved his Hungarian surname.
And, if I'm not mistaken, he was pro football's first soccer style kicker. A trend was started.
Yes - the 1st soccer style kicker. He played just 2 seasons with the Bills both being AFL Championships. He made the pro-bowl in 1965. Then he 'jumped' to the Giants in the NFL which was historic at that time and played 9 more seasons.

I know you are a veteran because you even remember Bruce. 1968-69 with a 62% FG rating.

Cookie Gilchrist, FB, kicked FG's in 1962. He made 8 of 20 for a 40% rate.

My favorite kicker was Christie.
In 8 seasons he had 13 successful FG's over 50 yards and a 78.3 success rate. He was a great addition from Tampa Bay!
-
Only 2 place-kickers in Bills history have a .0 % for Field Goals made. Both attempted just 1 FG and missed. Can you name them??
Shayne Graham hit 75% of his FG attempts and lasted just 1 season. Who had the 2nd highest FG completion % in Bills history??
My favorite is Dan Carpenter who played with the team from 2013-2016. His FG % was 86.5 ( team record) and also made 14 of 21 kicks outside 50 yards.

John Kidd - no specific reason, other than thinking he was cool when I was in elementary school.
Kidd was here for 5 years and averaged 40.5 yards per punt

I wonder what punter had the longest term w the Bills. I think John Kidd was here 9 years....a good run. Moorman was here, then in Dallas, but back here? I cant' recall the detail.
Moorman - 12 years

Bills with the 52nd ranked TV market still survives!

WHY has only 1 Buffalo Bill had a National TV syndicated commercial??? It's because of the Market Size and national interest in our Bills. Even the QB from Cleveland had this privilege over the past 3 seasons. Cleaning out the stadium in Cleveland was the plot.
WHY doesn't Josh get a national commercial? BECAUSE - we are a dinky market and money rules!
