I think you forgot that McD took a garbage roster his first year and went 9-7 to end the playoff drought.

Regardless of the strategy, this defense hasn’t been able to get pressure on the quarterback or get off the field on 3rd down all season.

If we don’t start running the ball, defenses will continue to play 2 deep zone, taking away the crossing and deep routes like Tennessee did, forcing Josh to dink and dunk down the field.

 

If you start ramming to ball down their throat with the running game, one of those safeties will have to come closer to the box which will open up the back end.

I don’t recall a running play this year where he has shot the gap and blown up a running play but have seen him get manhandled by guards firing off the ball and wiping him out on multiple plays each game.

Baker Mayfield was also awful today and unlike Darnold, he has tons of weapons.  Looks like the last two quarterbacks taken in the 1st round of the 2018 draft will be better than picks #1 and #3.
