Even if this does end up being a solid draft answer this question, DID WE INVEST IN HELPING THE MOST IMPORTANT AND ONLY PART OF ROSTER THAT WILL WIN US A SUPER BOWL? The answer is no.
While other teams with young franchise QB drafted multiple WRs in what was known throughout the league to be the best and deepest WR class in years, the bills took ONE. We have 11 picks and we took ONE. We traded back multiple times and even out of the draft completely because our FO and Coach think were “fine” at WR. We have one of the 2 best QBs in the entire league and lost our #1 and #2 WR this offseason and we took ONE WR.
- Chargers HC, Jim Harbaugh, known for building through the lines before taking “luxury” picks like WR even took 3 WRs for his new franchise QB.
- The NE Patriots, who are known to be historically awful at helping out their QB, gave their new franchise QB 2 new WRs in the first 4 rounds.
- The Cincinnati Bengals have 2 top 15 WRs in the league and already have multiple solid #3 WRs from the last couple drafts on their roster, they took a high upside WR for Burrow in the 3rd round
- Our rival Miami dolphins already flush with speed added 2 more vertical threats in the Washington boys in the 6th and 7th round.
Even if Beane and company were content with our WR room it’s not ok. Being content is a failure when you have Josh Allen as your QB. We should not be trying to prove he can do it on his own with limited options. Who’s our deep threat? Shakir and Samuel are going over the middle, coleman has great hands outside, Kincaid will eat and be the safety net but who is keeping the defense honest deep and why don’t we have multiple guys that can take the top off like KC (worthy and Hollywood) and Miami when we have the guy with the strongest arm in the league behind center? We should be overflowing his cupboard with riches and riches of WR talent so we can win a damn Super Bowl.
Finally, will a lot of these drafted players work out, yes. But now I’ll ask a different version of my initial question. GAME ON THE LINE, AFC CHAMPIONSHIP, NO MAJOR INJURIES, DID WE GIVE JOSH ALLEN EVERYTHING HE NEEDS TO BEAT THE CHIEFS?
Your argument is sound and I understand it. I think with all of the Wrs entering the league some good, possibly better than good wrs are going to be hitting the waiver wire in the near future.
I think some of the issues this administration has with drafting wrs is finding ones that are process guys. The position itself is susceptible to, let’s just say, personalities.

The problem people have is there was no 2nd WR early. The fans on this board wanted to drive the brand new Ferrari off the lot even if it might be defective but instead got the Honda CRV that isn’t exciting but will get the job done a lot longer
They do this without mentioning we didn’t have the money for Ferraris. AND we did make investments to possibly acquire a Ferrari next year.
some people want to put everything on the credit card and pretend it’s free. Life is about delaying gratification.

This isn’t a draft to get excited for, in a traditional way, but it was (probably) exactly what the doctor ordered. I appreciate the philosophy used this off-season and am completely on board with setting the table for next year (2025).
If things go well we will make a playoff run this year. It will be superbowl or bust in 2025.
IF josh was going to miss time with an injury in his career, this would be the year to do it.

Bishop, Davis and VPG are the best value picks. I hate the Coleman pick but I'll keep an open mind even if he's unable to get open. This was clearly a transition 1 year rebuild draft. Our odds of sliding into the playoffs are 50/50 but a SB is definitely out of the question. Next off season with Knox & Miller gone, BB will have more leverage to help Josh.
Grade C+
It was a safe, punt on 4 and three at the opponents 47 with a 7 point lead in the fourth, draft.

With all the wr in the draft, there are going to be some quality wrs on the waiver wire in the future

Stupid as hell. This roster won't have 5th and 6th rounders on it.
Inb4 _______ was a 6th rounder.

If McDermott had 18 games he could go 4-6 before leaking a story that galvanizes the team and go on a 8 game tear to win the division.

I'm not gonna be reasonable anymore. For a guy who talks about getting more explosive Beane gets:
- a plodding big slot WR
- an overdraft at a devalued position
- a no-traits defensive lineman to backup your best D player
That looks like a fail for an in-window reset. Minimal upside, and a failure to add the very thing you talked about adding to the roster - explosiveness.
This isn't about Franklin, this is about traits and value positions. I wouldn't have drafted anyone Beane did in the places he drafted them. Hopefully the fact that he gets paid millions of dollars to do this ***** means he'll be more correct, but I. Just. Hate. This. Day 2.
There is something to be said about mcbeane trying to manage the locker room rather than drafting the best football players.

I was really happy worthy made it to the bills' pick. To see them trade it, to kc nonetheless, then them take worthy was bitter to swallow.
With that said.
Top end speed does not = tyreek hill. The raiders have notoriously taken the fastest wr for decades and it hasn't worked out.
Mahomes did not make hill either. He established himself under Alex Smith, and look what he is doing with Tua.
The Bills clearly had no interest in worthy, moving down. They were confident enough to give the pick to kc. It appears worthy would have fallen to the chiefs anyway if the Bills picked whoever they are targeting.
Lastly, Andy Reid is a fatso
That made me laugh like an idiot

It was the classic move by guys who are stuck in the football mentality of 10 years ago. It's an offensive league. You stack speed and talent at WR. Bills are still trying to "stop" teams on defense. And they keep failing miserably at it.
The chief’s defense carried them through the playoffs to a superbowl win.
I like the trade down, seems to be a bunch of second tier wrs. I would’ve liked to pick up more 2025 draft picks but getting more top 160 picks this year is also good.

Does anyone have injury concerns with Harrison? I don’t know his entire history but he seemed to be injured a lot.

The question of Elite players keeps coming up and is a fair question. Besides Milano (when healthy) and Taron Johnson, who is the elite player on the Bils defense? Trying to be objective, I think the answer is potentially Benard. Being "elite" is also a very hard question. Neither Hyde or Poyer were considered elite when the Bills signed them.
On offense, I think we have elite players. Allen, Cook, Dawkins, and Kincaid are all elite players. Torrence and possibly Shakir have that potential as well if they build on last season. Cook finished 4th in rushing and 3rd in scrimmage yards by a RB last season. That's elite production.
You’re very generous with the word elite. I’d say for elite we have josh and MAYBE Milano. The rest of those players are good/borderline pro bowl with Kincaid flashing potential.
We could use a Kam chancellor type safety and an in-his-prime von miller.
-
By purging some older players we are swapping experience for athleticism in theory. We desperately need to find 2-3 more elite players. Our draft capital makes this a low probability proposition. We need to draft as many players as we can and hope one of them hits or target players and package picks to try and go get them. Hopefully by making room on the roster some of the young talent shines.
Another Keon Coleman thread. This man is pure charisma, every Bills fan should watch his press conf
