Yeah, now you're going to get some of the folks here believing that. If it was said on the internet it must be true.I knew there had to be a catch. Only 30" to a yard in High School football fields. So this was basically an extra point by NFL standards.
-
It will. Better GM in place now.
-
I know a few GM's, coaches and scouts who likely need to be questioned. All these firings and the does goes missing, I don't think it's a coincidence
-
That's just base salary. You also have about $5 million in signing bonus for each yearIf his replacement is the 2nd overall pick then he'll only cost ~500k, which should offset that dead cap nicely.
-
Why not? We already have 20 million with Dareus, who barely plays. His contract is a 8.5 million dead cap hit if we release him after this year. That is not great to have 8.5 dead cap.
-
Why aren't you predicting playoffs? Figure one more win at end of season if Whaley hadn't forced EJ into the starting lineup. Then the Miami game when we couldn't stop them after we went ahead. Steelers or Raiders should not have been losses. Heck Seattle we should have won, if it wasn't for the defense.Ok, I'll change the focus. When I hear rebuild I think purge the big salaries and get rid of any higher priced vet who isn't expected to be a contributor in two seasons. I don't think they are doing that, and the reason is because there's enough talent that if some things break their way they are right in the mix. They've got three rookies from last year who barely contributed (Lawson) or not at all (Ragland, Listenbee). Their first three picks this season are expected to contribute. That's six new pieces right there. With the admitted talent on the OL and DL, and an adequate presence at QB, who is to say this will be a schittshow?
This isn't a pollyanna perspective and I'm not predicting playoffs.
We should be a 10-11 win team this year.

Here is a link that would say otherwise

(just cut and paste the above link, Thanks)
Hiring him as the Asst GM was a good move. Promoting him to GM was not. Did you actually read that?
-
And yet a lot of the folks here were happy that we had hired a black GM. Also many of the folks are long term posters on this board also questioned the hiring of Whaley at that time. Facts is facts. Get over yourself.I love the you linked fans' perspective and you have a post making it a racial thing. Stay classy.

http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/156675-can-someone-explain-the-whaley-faith-to-me/?hl=whaleyYou're right. No one said anything good about the hiring of a guy in his 30s who was from the Steelers. Not one single person. Great, informative post.
-
No there wasn't.Very true. I know everyone hates him now but there was a ton of positive things said when we hired Whaley.
-
Agreed.
And like I said I honestly don't know enough about Beane to have much of an opinion on how qualified he is for the job. I know he's been being groomed in Carolina for years, and that Carolina fans are somewhat upset at possibly losing him.
I just wish we had done an exhaustive search and found the absolute best candidate for the job. But maybe Beane really is the best man for the job. I guess I just don't like that It seems like this was Beane's job from day 1. I kind of feel like this search was more/less just a sham. But Beane hasn't been hired yet, so I am a little early saying this...
Who knows what will happen though. Maybe they will hire some top end personnel men and scouts (or other front office exec types) to help them. Or maybe they won't even need to.
Don't get me wrong, I will still be optimistic if Beane gets hired. I will give them the benefit of the doubt from day 1 and wait to see what they do over time. I do think it's very important that you have a coach and GM who trust each other and work very well together, and McDermott doesn't seem the type that would want an unqualified guy in the GM role. If he wants Beane that badly, there has to be a good reason for it.
I hope it isn't him. It will be like a comedy.

We won't get insight until tomorrow when JW wakes up from his birthday.
-
I am sure JW will as well.I'll drink to that.

Wrong. Sometimes not taking the shot is the right choice or you might hit a friendly. In this case you might select someone, get rid of someone else and it gets worse. Just look at EJ.True, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

We could always throw in the 2019 first rounder. A team would be crazy to turn down 3 number 1 picks for a trade up to the number 1 spot.Infatuation always wears off. As a writer, I know I can't rely on inspiration alone. It's too fickle.
I think we are going to regret passing on Mahomes. We will need considerable fortune to end up with one of the top 2018 qbs.
Those who think we can turn both 2018 firsts plus into a sure top two or three pick are blithely over-confident.
We could easily be shut out; meanwhile, Mahomes could have been learning while the bridge qb continues to lack anticipation and the rookie shows anticipation but a pop gun arm, and the holdover project has a cannon and probably not much else.
-
Worst GM in league, so it's not going to be hard to find a better one. That's the thing.
I'm all in favor of firing Whaley if they bring in someone better.
I'm going to learn to hate his firing if they bring in someone worse.
-
Other than his miss on EJ, I think Whaley has done a pretty good job.
Lot of excellent free agent pickups, we have a pretty good roster, especially if Lawson and Ragland emerge this year and we hit on some draft picks.
Flame away if you must, but I see us as doing the best we possibly can without a franchise qb. If we can stop the run and have a solid kicking game this year, we can get 10 wins.
I'm bummed about the TD Mike tender, but I think that was Overdorfs call. It worked with Groy. Maybe they'd rather trust Williams as the #2 back and get another 5th round pick. Gotta wait and see.
Really?
Overpaid Mccoy after the trade.
Overpaid Dareus.
Wasted draft picks to get EJ
wasted draft picks to get an oft injured WR
No leadership ever drafted on the team
These two alone have put us in cap hell.
Then Kujo, our entire draft class last year was on IR pretty much to start the season.
Pissing in Rex's cheerios every morning to where Rex said hell with this, let me out of here.
LB's are a disaster
DB's are a disaster
No WR's
QB beyond TT who is only average is nonexistant.
Whaley should have been fired last season.

Yup. Any chance of implementing a minimum number of posts which are replies before folks can start a new thread?I really only visit the site now to read posts like these so I can at least crack a smile. The board has gone to stojan.

"I live in Mexico where steroids are legal. Guess what. Mexico doesn't have a steroid problem. In fact, the issue doesn't even raise an eyebrow.
Anyone, including a 15 year-old soccer player, can walk into a pharmacy, go right up to the counter, ask for preloaded ready-jects of Sustanon 250 and Deca, pay his 500-some-odd pesos and walk out, just as if he'd purchased pink sugar cookies and a bottle of Gatorade. No problem.
And, oddly, the news reports in Mexico are barren of anyone dying from steroids. No teens are committing suicide. Sports are not rife with cheaters and allegations of malfeasance. Parent groups aren't up in arms demanding legislation. There's nobody testifying in front of congress blaming juiced professional athletes for their son's alleged steroid-induced suicide (more on that character in a minute)."
No.
And in NYC you can't even walk in and get a sugar cookie or gatorade, as those are restricted.

If you want to find cap space, restructure Hughes, Glenn, Clay and Mccoy. That would save upwards of 15 million on cap.
Also, I believe even with rookie salaries considered we have over $20 million available to sign FA's.
-
Because closing those holes and not having a starting quality QB won't matter. You'll finish 6-10 with a QB who costs $1/m year but be at cap limit because you spent it elsewhere but no way to get them the ball, or have a turn over machine like EJ at QB.Right. We won 7 games with Taylor on a $6.9 mil cap hit.
How are we going to field a team with Rivers and Brees counting $20 and $19 mil against the cap respectively?
How is a team with holes at WR (x2), RT, SS, FS, WLB, CB, K and no depth anywhere on the depth chart going to field a competent roster with $14 mil in cap space remaining?

Should we build a wall and make BBMB pay for it?
Now we know why they shut down the wall. No intelligent life there.

Rex firing.I'm in favor of a forum rule that says posting anything from Jason LaContorta earns said poster a two-week unpaid vacation.
The guy has not been right once that I can remember with respect to breaking any Bills news.
You figure wrong. I'm serious -- name one time LaContorta has been accurate when it comes to breaking Bills news.

You probably saw a different angle, then. When the cameras showed SCOTUS members, Kagan & Sotomayor were sitting, while the rest were still standing and clapping for a while.
Check out the 0:20 sec mark in the video - here
They're just short.
Public Financing of Stadiums

That story was weak on facts. They talk about the lost revenue due to the recession, but a large chuck is due to the disapproval of federal travel and conferences in Vegas after the bad things done by by a few folks. But the stadium is being paid for by a relatively small tax on hotel rooms. In Buffalo your not going to get the same capability, but I am sure if they can get the region involved and maybe even Canada/Ontario to chip in?
