Listening to Joe Marino podcast and he says they are honing in on OL and WR in the 1st and specifically the two names he keeps hearing for the Bills in the 1st are Jonah Williams and DK Metcalf (3 different sources). He does think they would take Oliver but do not think he will be there and doesn’t think they will trade up.

He also believes Dawkins is on notice

What did he think the three mistakes were by Beane?

I would say that Beane is all about building the best 53-man roster than he can without ruining our salary cap position for any year in the future.  He values all eleven players on the field and wants quality depth to drive a competitive environment to get the best out of every player.

Whaley's strategy was to have a few elite superstars on the roster (Mario Williams, Watkins, McCoy) with the remaining spots filled with whatever money was left.

I believe that Beane's approach to building a full roster will win out in the end, as rosters with holes get exploited.  The defense is as good as the weakest player, who will be exploited by the opponents offensive game plan.  Offences that can't run, get receivers in double-coverage.  Offences that can't pass, face eight men in the box.

This offseason has been about shoring up the weakest parts of our roster, where we had back-up caliber players in starting positions.  We didn't add superstars to our roster, but we have replaced back-ups with starters and it will show on the field.

In the draft, Beane will stick to his word and take the best player available early in the draft and then draft more for need later in the draft when the spread from player to player is less.

I am going into this draft, felling relaxed and trusting the process.  If I'm surprised by the first pick, I will assume the pick is good and that the media doesn't know as much as our scouts.

I agree with what you said here. Whaley took a more NBA approach to building the roster. He was looking for a few stars and would just fill in gaps with whatever money was available. That works in the NBA because it's a stars driven game and one player makes a bigger impact in each game. It doesn't work in the NFL and as we have seen with the Pats, it's about the collective 53. The Pats haven't had many true stars over the years besides maybe Brady and a handful of others.

Voted no.  As we have a female CEO don’t see how this signing could fly as sends the wrong message to female fans.

To be honest, this is the reason why we are probably the only team that could sign him without it being a huge deal. If she is willing to sign off after a conversation with him and came out and lead the press conference regarding it, there isn't much else that can be said.

  4. I for one, like this idea. I know the draft is heavy with defensive lineman, but I would prefer to have the flexibility on draft day to take best player available or trade down when necessary. Assuming of course that we can get him for a 3 year deal or less at a reasonable price.

Conversely, Rex Ryan. Ryan was fairly well in a few years of Jets coaching but would fail miserably if in college.

With adults it is not about coaching up talent. It's about building a team with coaching.

I agree. I think he would do a great job recruiting, but he won't have the structure around the program that is necessary for college kids to thrive.

    11. Buffalo Bills

Top three backs: LeSean McCoy, Chris Ivory, Travaris Cadet

Projected unit stats: 378 carries, 1,631 yards, 11 TDs; 88 receptions, 686 yards, 2 TDs

Outlook: Believe it or not, Bills running backs have led the NFL with a 4.6 YPC over the past three seasons. The soon-to-be-30 McCoy's efficiency dipped last season (4.0 YPC), but only Bell exceeded his 287 carries, and McCoy caught 59 passes, his most since 2010. Buffalo added near-replacement-level veteran Ivory as McCoy's primary backup, while Cadet figures to chip in on passing downs after showing well in a small sample last season. I might be guilty of some veteran deference here, but McCoy's elusiveness and workhorse role keep Buffalo near the top 10.

I am not a fan of our ranking. I think based on some of the units above us, we should be around the 7-8 range.

Where would he rank in this year's class?  Kid looks the part so far.

Based on his body of work only being one year, probably behind the top 5 (Allen, Darnold, Jackson, Mayfield, Rosen) . You see the intangibles and a good arm. It's just we haven't seen enough of it. I do believe he develops into a top 5 pick in a couple years. I really like what I see of the kid and i'm a University of Tennessee fan.  Everything I have read of this kid, he eats, sleeps, and dreams football. He doesn't care about anything else.

That wouldn’t make any sense. I thought everyone had to play on Thursday night.

Unless they changed that rule which I doubt. That would mean the Bills would have to be playing a day game on Thanksgiving. Although I would classify that as a primetime game but maybe he isn't.

  10. My measure is did they elevate their program. I know this is more of an eye test. But DeShaun Watson elevated that Clemson program, Andrew Luck elevated the Standford program, Aaron Rodgers at Cal, Scam Newton at Auburn, Payton at Tennessee, etc. There are probably guys that have elevated their programs and haven't been good pro's, but this is usually where I start.

Who on that list was a bad college QB?

I thought the point was what is the best metric you look at for success in the NFL? Did I miss something here?
