  1. I love the takes on this game from the national media and fans. Its about the vaunted run game and defense of the Patriots and how they will stop the Bills offense. Just to put things in perspective, the Patriots have a whopping 83 more yards on the ground than us in 1 extra game played. The 2 games we gave up big yardage on the ground were against the Indy #3 without Star or Edmonds & Titans #4 in rushing, Pats are rated 9. People act like we aren't rated either 1 or 2 in many defensive categories either.

As long as we don't turn the ball over, I don't really see how the Pats can win this game.

no. watch tampa. brady still hitting guys on the run with 2 deep shell zone. Even still allen ball placement isnt

Tampa has a different makeup and offense than we have. They have a credible run game to get teams out of the 2 deep shell zone. They also have big strong receivers to test the 2 high with underneath routes for run after catch. Add in the line that gives Brady time for the deeper routes to develop and allow the crossers to come free and yeah, that would be great. But we don't have that offense. We have quick route running good hands receivers who have to find soft spots in the zone because our line doesn't hold up long enough for those plays. We can't run teams out of the deep cover two either.  Not making excuses, but the makeup of this team is different than Tampa. We are more like KC and look what's happening to them with a better run game.

Allen gotta be a little more precise with ball placement. And with that - we need to be able to hit WR on the run for YAC. We just run stick and hook routes or bombs.

You see routes where you can really get run after the catch when defenses are in man to man or zone when they rush 5 or more. When they are playing against zone with 7 or more in coverage, you will get more sit in the hole routes that typically get tackled shortly after. Look at the difference between Jets and Indy game for Man vs. Zone defense results.

Yeah it was a tough watch, but also interesting seeing some of the behind the scenes details and it was cool to see Frank Reich eating at Chef’s with Bruce Smith and Steve Tasker.

It sucked hearing Reich’s post game speech about “total domination in all 3 phases” (but he was right).

Also wasn’t crazy about hearing that D line coach (or whoever it was) saying that if they force Allen to be a pocket passer they win the game. I hope Allen uses that as billboard material.

I don't think that comment about making Allen a pocket passer was a slight at Josh as much as they knew if they can keep him in the pocket, they could collapse it up the middle with our weak guard play. He was right on.

It is a recurring thing with Ed sadly. His inconsistency largely comes from the fact that he doesn't always play with the same motor. Even within a game he can go from a disruptive force to a non-factor and at times I attribute that to inconsistent effort.

The OP had it wrong as in the video they talk about Oliver having tons of effort all the time and praising him. They talk about Butler having lack of effort and even the plays he writes about being pushed back and having the Oline lift him up by the back of the pads is Butler.

  6. It seems to be a combination of things. I don't feel it's so much that they have figured us out as we've had certain deficiencies that that could counter what they are trying to do. Being very weak up the middle has allowed teams to rush 3 or 4 and win getting pressure in Josh's face while our tackle play has also been substantially weaker than last year. This has limited Josh's ability to escape at times and rushed throws he was able to sit back and make last year.  The deep crossers with the TE running the seam to put the safties in conflict take time, and the Oline hasn't been able to hold up like last year.  Add to that that we can't or don't really try and run the ball except in obvious situations isn't helping allowing dlines to pin their ears back and play games against the oline with almost zero risk of being burned by the run.

I have no idea why we haven't run any motion to jet sweeps to slow the linebackers and dlinemen down? This helped with run game and playaction passes last year. We moved Diggs around much more last year with him playing in the slot at times to get better matchups, but this year almost exclusively on the outside.

In the end our offense could still be very effective against the defenses we see if we did things to slow the pass rush down, line held up, and we could run the ball more effectively. This would force teams to change the coverage by bringing extra pressure which would allow for the bigger plays we saw last year.

He still had 3-4 seconds.  Just can’t expect more than that when the DL doesn’t even pretend to worry about a run.

You can't count the 3rd and 4th second when the defender had pushed the guard into his lap. He can't step into a throw when that happens. It's one thing to get pressure from the outside where you can step up and avoid to make a throw, it's another to have that pressure right up into your face having to retreat backwards.

"our entire offense looks very different from last season" because there is fans in the stadium & JA has not been the same quarterback with them cheering, scary but true imo

It has nothing to do with fans in the stands. That is the dumbest thing I've heard that keeps getting repeated. He has played with fans his whole football life. Even last year, some of the games had fans. Yes our offense has looked different. Most of it is on Dabol. There is no creativity to this year's plays. We haven't gone back to things that have worked for us like widening out the defense with jet motion and the occasional sweep. We just line up and run plays to a fault. Add to that our Oline is playing worse than last year, example Dawkins and Williams. Guard play was bad last year too.

It's just showing in general he has consistent underneath options but seems to always go for big yards.

Sometimes you gotta take that easy 8 yards.

You can have fun with 2nd n 2. Not so much with 2nd n 10

You're making the case of an open underneath player on a play where there was an open player deeper and it was completed for a 1st down. Josh took plenty of underneath plays today.  It sounds like you want him to read short to long, but our offense is designed the other way, it's been stated many times. But when you hit the underneath routes, you expect them to make someone miss once in a while.

But consistency matters. If Ed Oliver falling on Mahomes' feet trying to make a play while getting pushed is roughing the passer, that first hit on Wilson HAS to be called.

Mahomes was in the pocket and receives protection. Outside the pocket he is now treated like a runner and not afforded the below the knees call.  Oliver's shouldn't have been called because he was blocked/pushed down towards the knee.

Beasley standing all by himself on 3rd down right in front of Josh as Josh was determined to run and get that 1st down………

I've watched it over several times, and Beasley doesn't uncover until Josh had run past the LOS. Had to watch highlights when I got back to the room as I was at the game.

  13. The Stevie Johnson drop wide open in the EZ vs the Steelers.  McKelvins fumble return against the Pat's when he just needed to go down. And the MNF onside kick against Dallas.

I don't consider wide right to be worst play, or Music City Miracle as one was a long kick for Norwood on grass, and the other we were robbed by a forward lateral. The other 3 just poor awareness and execution by our own players to blow the game.

Ask anyone of these people who Josh was throwing to his first year and when you tell them Zay Jones is barely hanging on the league, Robert Foster was undrafted, Kelvin Benjamin and Charles Clay are currently out of the league and they cut Shady McCoy before he ever played a down with Josh in a game and they look at you just a little stunned not to mention the crapfest that was the oline at the time

All true except Shady was here for Josh's rookie season. They released him before the 2019 season after drafting Singletary and signing Gore.

Foster had a couple of other decent seasons. I think we’re looking for a one-and-metaphorically-done sorta guy.

He started every game in his second season and was bad. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MillTe00.htm

Foster had 1 monster year with 1690 rushing yards and over 2000 rush/receive. After that he never played more than 11 games and no more than 850 rushing yards. This at a time when teams like the Steelers were power running teams. This is what I would call a 1 year wonder.
