That is the tough part. There is no guarantee the next HC would be better than McDermott. If Sean were fired, he would be unemployed for about 5 seconds. At the same time how, many years does he get to bring a championship to Buffalo. Allen isn't going to be playing at an elite level forever. The Eagles eventually moved on from Reid when he couldn't win a championship, and he had more success there then Sean has had in Buffalo.

The Eagles didn't just move on for not winning a championship with Reid-- I think a lot of people forget the circumstances there.

They moved on after they spent big in a 2011 off-season where they were called the "dream team", and then proceeded to miss the playoffs and win only 8 games. This was followed by a 2012 season which was a complete implosion: they won 4 games that year and finished with two QB's on their active roster: a washed up Mike Vick and... Trent Edwards. Most coaches no matter how good they are, will be fired after two seasons of that nature when the QB situation is in flux and you're prime for a rebuild.

The Bills will always be likely to keep McDermott if he maintains a stranglehold on the division with double digit wins and Josh as a healthy active starter, even if the playoff success is middling. But if we have a disaster-type season like the 2012 Eagles did? I think it shouldn't even be a question to move on.

8 or 9 is comical. There is one person responsible for keeping everyone employed at OBD

If we immediately shifted to an offense built around Cook the way the late drought teams were built around Shady and ask Trubisky to be Tyrod Taylor and not throw the games away— I mean there’s probably a timeline where we get to over .500

But as division winner we play the other strongest teams, who would in all likelihood each of them roll us. It’s more likely than not we’d see a season reminiscent of the 2 win Colts when Peyton Manning went down — and that team had impact players on both sides of the ball (although I do think for whatever his faults, McDermott is a much better coach than Jim Caldwell).

The only things you could say for certain is we’d be in no way a Super Bowl contender and we’d have a chance for McBeane to prove they’re not being hard carried by a once in a generation QB.

Better cross that guy off the list.

Don't think Hailee wants anyone else gripping Josh's squirrel that night, and Wilkins simply can't be trusted to control his urges.

He sealed his fate with the cheap shot on Keon Coleman. Let alone doing it as a Dolphin.

I do appreciate him letting Cook blow by him on his way to a long TD run.

The way he acted headhunting our players like that? NO WAY... respect is EARNED and he lost a lot of respect going out of his way to try and hurt Bills players.

I get the sentiment but Taylor Rapp has taken out more Bills with friendly fire than Poyer has as an enemy.

I’m inclined to cut him some slack personally.

I'm in my late 30's and I couldn't imagine dating someone in their early 20's. Too much of a gap in age and life experience. What the heck do they even talk about? He must not understand 90% of the things she says. He probably has grandkids her age. Very creepy

I dunno my girl and I are “age appropriate” and we still barely have anything in common to talk about 😅

  6. I honestly think the Bills would be willing to give Ty Johnson a heavy workload with Ray Davis as the #2 if Cook legitimately held out into the regular season. Fact is 17 makes the offense go, Cook is a weapon but we’d score points without him.

If all else fails we can always give big Reggie G a few carries 😤

Cleveland is building a tough D and ground based offense since they don’t have what they want at QB.

It’s a smart formula to try and get back to the playoffs and earn Stefanski another year where they’ll be better set up to grab a QB.

The thing about trades like this is that all the other GMs in NFL have similar ideas on where the “value” is in this draft.

So really, why would any opposing GM do this?

The only reason is if they have a player they covet when we pick. And even then, do they covet them enough to take them in round 1 and basically miss out on day 2?

They are all trying to rob the same train.

There’s the additional incentive of the first round picks having the fifth year contract option. It might not be much, but there are teams who have made a move into the low 1st round in years past just to have that extra little bit of flexibility.

I dunno man. Everyone making fun of this guy but he makes people look silly in some highlights. He looks like a YAC monster. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised. Def a Tabor pick

    Found Beane’s lurker account.

I might be in the minority here but I'd have him for a 1yr $3mil contract

It’s not just the money you consider at this point, it’s that his spot on the roster would be an opportunity cost against someone fresh who will likely be younger and — hopefully — much, much more effective.

Putting an aging pass rusher who’s snaps you want to limit anywhere on the 53 probably doesn’t make sense. If you can put him on the practice squad after free agency thins out, that’s the smart play imo.

His transformation into Tyreek Hill is nearly complete, just needs a stupid dangly earring

I think he’s behind by about 8 or 9 kids so he has some catching up to do in that department, but just give him some time.

The Bills did not get lucky with Josh.  They spent a lot of time looking at the QBs in that draft, and when they all went out to take Josh to dinner they realized he’d be the perfect guy for the Bills.  Beane moved into position in the draft to get him, and there you go.  It gets really tiring to see the front office criticized when a puck doesn’t work but then give no credit when they land a superstar.

That’s only partly true tho — they DID get lucky that Josh wasn’t taken by one of the other QB needy teams they weren’t in a position to leap frog.

When they first swapped picks with the Bengals to position themselves for a top QB, they were comfortable with taking any of the top 3-4 qb’s on the board. Beane has confirmed that previously.

So if Josh gets plucked no1 overall or goes to the Broncos or Jets, bills are “comfortable” drafting Rosen and this regime goes up in flames within 1-3 years, depending on how much goodwill breaking the drought bought them and just how bad those seasons play out.

Unless you think they had Lamar rated over Rosen. But that’s a big, big assumption.

I was on board with paying him if he wanted a reasonable extension. Now with how he's been acting I am not even sure if I would make that offer.

Agree. That's a me-first, Diggs-type vibe. Definitely listen to trade offers, but if a third doesn't materialize, have play out his last year and let him go, no hard feelings either year. He'll be wanting to prove himself, so he should give the Bills a good year.

Eh, young running backs in the NFL in the modern era have seemingly been more aggressive about holding out for top money while they can get it and for good reason: they take more punishment than anyone on the field and their value has plummeted in the era of high passing offenses. They have to be more assertive about getting while the gettin's good, and any halfway decent agent is going to push for this type of move.

This feels a lot more "just business" than the me-first drama Diggs brought -- which wasn't even about money, really. That was just his ego and wanting the ball.

If the Bills can get an above-value return for Cook and he can get his asinine contract? I'd consider that a win for both sides.

    Ty Johnson.

    Weighs 20lbs more than Cook.

    Ran a 4.45/Cook ran a 4.42.

Is a better pass catcher than Cook

    Is better in pass pro

    Averaged 5.2ypc this past season

Easily accumulate 1,300 total yards if he was #1 back.  He’d be on the field way more than Cook.

Completely agree. Cook is an elite talent but Ty Johnson gives me low key Freddie Jackson vibes.

The guy is solid at everything he does and has a tendency of punching way above his weight in the "big play" department.

What was he doing between the two SB years?  Playing 52 pickup?

Rebuilding from Chip Kelly's one year of personnel control, in which he set the franchise back big time (thanks again for Shady, chip!)

Before he lost GM duties, he had built a strong team that made Kelly look like a genius. And then once he got control back, he's done just as OP describes: built two different contenders with completely different coaches and QB's.

He's not perfect. He's missed on plenty of moves/picks. The guy's still probably the best in the biz.

I'm going to quibble with this a little bit... because i heard Beane in an interview last (spring or summer?) talking about building a roster.  I'm paraphrasing but he said something about, you cannot expect to have a roster full of choir boys,  you have to take a chance on talented guys.  It's a balance.

He says that, but it's not as if he's put that philosophy into practice all too often. I guess Von would be an example, he had been accused by his gf of assault even before the most recent allegation which he served the suspension for. If she hadn't recanted and given the Bills an out, it would have been interesting to see what they did.

If the Araiza scenario is anything to go by, Beane probably has a higher willingness to try on the risky prospects than McDermott. When discussing the situation, Beane was more taciturn and came off somewhat disappointed his hand was forced in cutting the guy. Whereas McDermott looked physically ill about the subject, a combination of angry and sick and to his stomach.

Anybody still think our O is the problem?

Situational play calling could still be improved, and total points for the season doesn’t change that.

Tush push to the left over and over into a wall of defenders lives rent free in my head. Those two failed (and horribly derived) 2 pt conversion attempts has real estate up there too, lol.
