The outraged people here act as if McDermott decided to kick a FG from the 1 with 2 seconds left down 3 points.

When McDermott elected to punt there was still plenty of time to win the game.

I wouldn't have punted. I would have preferred he not have made that decision. But considering the circumstances - and yes, the result - I'm not having a tantrum over it.

This isn't exactly true. With the conditions being the way they were both defenses were having trouble stopping the run. If Brissett didn't throw on 1st and 2nd down right after Gore converted a 1st down there wouldn't have been enough time on the clock to score. The Colts basically gave the game away.

Yep, I’m idiot because I found McD’s logic to be crazy. I never follow the media these days. I simply found his quote indicative of who he is as an NFL coach. Too many NFL coaches lack a fundamental understanding of probability.

You aren't the only one. The call to punt was a donk move if I've ever seen one. Luckily he hit on the flop, the turn, and river.

I really disagree with this and think it is this way of thinking that has helped keep the Bills out of the playoffs for so many years. I do think there is a responsibility to try to win every game and I don't think McD has ever said differently. But I believe it is just as important a job for the head coach, and maybe more so to win a Championship. That should be the ultimate goal. So I agree with you that McD hasn't given up on the season, but he has to think big picture too and he has. Starting Peterman is a big picture championship seeking decision. Starting Tyrod is a single game winning decision that has haunted this organization for 10 plus years. I'll try the big picture decisions for once and see how it goes.

All that being said, I think Peterman will as good as an option as Tyrod in a few weeks if he's allowed to start.

I don't see how starting a guy who is not ready to start in the NFL, and may not even be a capable backup is a "big picture" move. Peterman should ride the bench until we're mathematically eliminated, and see if he can secure a backup spot next TC. After that horrendous 1st half of football, signing Kaepernick to backup Taylor for the rest of the year would make the Bills a better football team.

Yeah, I voted that Peterman will start, not necessarily because I think that he gives us a better chance to win, but rather that MCDermott made the decision to start him because of something he saw or hoped to see and I would be surprised if he gave up on that conviction this quickly.

One thing that I think McDermott has going for him is that he does appear to admit his mistakes. I do think leaving Peterman in there long enough to throw 5 INTs was rather stubborn, but like others have said, I don't see how you could start Peterman after that showing and not have the entire locker room mail it in. If they are trying to mimic the "Do your job" process that they have over in NE, it will not bode well with players if they contradict themselves by starting a guy that doesn't give the team the best chance to win.

I am not making excuses, Scott.   How many times have I said it was horrible and horrendous?  A lot.

Taylor IMO would not have won that game

Maybe not, but he most likely would've kept it close enough to have a shot at the end.
