  1. What I fail to understand is why Tyrod is not taking off and running more. Is he being told to stay in the pocket and go through progressions? If so thats a big fail by Dennison. Tyrods game is taking off and running when things break down. Thats when he has success

I agree with that...the lack of a receiving corps is obvious. Things got painful after Clay went down. Peterman would have done no better with no one to throw to. Tyrod may have to be prepared to use his legs more.

  2. Pretty much sums up the Bills Offense the last 17 years......

Not a bad article but I think that statistics hide the fact that offensive innovation and defensive success are like waves...some new "system"...like the K-Gun comes along and has some success until coaches figure out a way to defend it. I think what you are seeing is the success of defenses against the current "systems". Bigger, faster defenders are also a factor. The "Refrigerator" Perry was an oddity at 300 lbs 30 years ago, now he would be an average sized lineman.

"Taylor is the convenient player to blame. I don’t think that’s fair.

Tyrod isn’t good enough to lift an average team into the playoffs. But I don’t think he is the worst problem the Bills have throwing the football. Buffalo’s current group of five wide receivers – including two who primarily return kicks – is among the worst in the NFL (I’m trying to be kind).

Critics were crying for Taylor to throw deep against Carolina. Throw deep to who? Sammy Watkins, or Robert Woods, or Chris Hogan, or Marquise Goodwin? They’re all gone.

I suppose Taylor is on thin ice now. Everybody loves the backup quarterback.

Maybe rookie Nathan Peterman could save the day. Hit the deep ball. Spread the field. Open up space for McCoy to run.

I doubt it. What do you think? Are you eager to find out?"

Let's be honest among us chickens here...Tyrod is merely a stop gap...nothing more. This is a new regime and they DO have a plan...unfortunately for the fans, the plan will take 2-3 years to bear fruit. Everyone has to keep a brave face on...I do believe that they are trying to win...the defense did a great job out there, but there are not enough decent players on the offense to have in a chance in the AFC East.

  4. Pretty sad watching the rapid decline of this guy as a player. He's gone from the most important piece on the D to being almost irrelevant. I think the guy has some mental issues, and football just isn't that important to him anymore. Maybe I'm wrong but he just doesn't seem happy.

That pretty much sums it up...that contract is a killer for the Bills. He doesn't seem motivated...I have seen guys have more emotion over popping a zit

  5. We had the completely wrong game plan. I appreciate that McDermott today said in his press conference they need to figure out ways to get the offense moving even when the run game isn't working. At least that tells me they saw the same thing the fans did and need to correct it. Actions speak louder than words though. Hopefully they watched that last drive closely and are scrapping what they would have done against Denver for something more in line with a modern offense. If we trot out the same run-first plan against Denver we will lose.

Agree with you 100%...poor game planning by the coaching staff. The defense gave us a chance to win, but the offense never made the changes necessary to make it happen. As much as I do not like Belicheck, he is a master of going into the locker room at halftime and making adjustments based on what he saw in the first half...not seeing it yet here.

  6. I'll keep this short, Taylor showed huge improvements in his game and it was evident from the first series. Specifically in the pocket.

His footwork, poise and speed scanning the field looks to have improved drastically. A huge drop by Clay turned 7 into 0 and some very smart throwaways decreased his completion percentage but we totally dominated and controlled this game. He converted some big 3rd downs, and used his legs very effectively.

Make no mistake, this offense runs through Shady but I think we are witnessing the evolution of Tyrod Taylor. I really felt Dennison held back big time in the 4th and just sat on the lead, up 2 scores, dominant defensive performance, that's fine but I'm really excited to see Taylor grow in this scheme and get comfortable with the WR corps.

This was a true team win, well , maybe minus ST, but for the first time in quite some time the O and D both showed up, 400+ yards on O , just over 200 allowed. Taylor's stats weren't eye popping but he did what needed to be done and looked vastly improved in the pocket. I'm really excited to see us match up with Carolina, I don't see any reason we can't have the same outcome.

    Tyrod 2.0 is here

I think we have to wait until Carolina to see if he has truly progressed. The Panthers D is much more formidable than the Jets.

  7. With the number of injuries in this league, I think that you have to have a 3rd QB on your roster. Teams are teeing off on QBs and Tyrod is not the most durable guy around. Even if you pick up a green "developmental" player and park him on the practice squad you have to have some insurance in this league.

  8.

I agree but it's not just Sammy's foot. He's also had hip surgery, broken ribs, sprained ankle and pulled calf muscle.

He didn't miss time with the hip surgery or broken ribs but if you want to sign this guy to a long term deal, like 4-5 more years...how confident are you in getting your value and that the injury pattern just stops?

I would have loved to keep Watkins, have him here for years and I hate that he's gone....but I also can see the reasoning from the FO.

We really have to remember that this is a business...the problems that we have had in the past have come from drafting and keeping players from an emotional standpoint as opposed to their usefulness to the organization. Rex Ryan's love for his son's Alma Mater was great but he didn't to draft players from Clemson who didn't fit his scheme. I think the team did the right thing in trading Sammy.

  9. I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it bears repeating.

The only way anyone can support the Watkins/Darby trades is by assuming the plan is to go after a 2018 QB prospect.

One of the big problems though... None of the top QB prospects are going to be seniors.

Sam Darnold is a Sophomore. Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson are Juniors.

This means some or all of them could return to school, even if they turn out to be fantastic prospects.

Not to mention, the Bills are going to have plenty of competition for draft position, even if they are loaded with picks.

The Jets have a terrible roster and seem to be purposely tanking for the #1 pick. The Browns are awful and also loaded with picks. The 49ers will certainly be in the mix. Another terrible season and the Jags could move on from Bortles. The Chargers could be ready to find a replacement for Rivers. Could the Rams dump Goff after 2 seasons? If the next Andrew Luck is poised to come out and these guys are sitting in the Top 1-2-3 spots, why would they trade to Buffalo?

There are so many ways this whole plan could backfire, it just depresses me.

I disagree wholeheartedly...while the QB positions is one of the most important on the team, there are other positions that carry significant weight as well.

Six picks in the first three rounds allows the team to build an unbelievable defense and a rock solid offensive line.

  10. The Bills seem to be setting themselves up to go after a QB in the draft almost without regard to their record. While it seems unlikely that the Bills will break out of their perennial mediocrity this year and go anything above 8-8, they will be able to package picks together to move down in the draft if they somehow do so.

If reality strikes and they finish sub 8-8 they may not need to do too much packaging to get a QB.

The front office is making the right moves. They are even doing so without necessarily tanking the season totally.

I agree...this was a great move by the leadership. Unless the Bills were willing to unload some of the baggage from the previous regime, they can't move forward. It was a mistake to trade up for Sammy and we never got the production out of him that we should have...why keep him around because of emotional attachment. We are well stocked with draft picks to build the foundation for a "Patriots' like run of superiority in the AFC East...we just need a few good picks and some stability in the front office.

  11. Not sure if you are serious but if you are I pretty much am of the same opinion and I dont see a big drop-off in talent if any at all, especially if Tre Davis plays like I believe he will. Tyrod still will have plenty of weapons offensively and an elite running attack.

And, we'll like next years draft for sure. Just in time for the Patriots fall from the mountain.

I think that this is a shrewd and calculated move. This front office has no ties to the previous one...the last two drafts did not produce talent that was a match for the current regime. No one expected the Bills to light it up this year...but now they are STACKED with draft picks for next year.

  12. Many, including myself, have been saying give him a shot and only keep him if he beats out Williams.

Then others get upset that fans want to just give Jackson a spot on the team.

There's a disconnect: I don't think anyone wants to give him a free pass to making the team. But why not let him earn a spot?

I have to agree with you on this one...let him compete for a spot. If he earns it, the fans will be happy and he will feel vindicated. If he doesn't, offer him the opportunity to retire as a Bill.

  13. I do feel good about the new regime. The biggest reason is that it appears that they are making decisions that we will lead to long term success. I never agreed with the Whaley era "splashy" draft moves. It is time for a shift in the division...there was a time when the Patriots were the laughing stock of the NFL (who remembers the Patsies?). They took a long term approach and have been reaping the benefits...time for us to return to the throne.

  14. Why does everyone keep posting fancy stats in their defense of Tie Rod? He is average at best. What will the excuse be this year if he again proves he cannot put a team on his shoulders and win when it counts?

I agree that the stats aren't the only thing that counts (especially if a QB puts up gaudy numbers and his team still loses), but it is not just TT who is responsible for wins and losses. The Defense has got to be able to protect a lead, the Kicker has to make FGs when the game is on the line, the Staff can't get penalized for too many players on the field (or too few).

  15. I am optimistic...we finally have adult leadership with McDermott and Beane. The AFC East is competitive, but we should at least hit 8-8. The more important aspect is that we will build the foundation to replace the "soon to spend the rest of their short life in agonizing pain" Patriots when Tom retires in a year or two.
