  1. Hmm...these kind of conversations are interesting but the bottom line is that you never know for sure in these "rebuilding" situations what is true. If McDermott builds a successful team in the next 2 years (assuming the owners give him that much time) than we will all be ranting about how his slow and steady process was genius. If they continue to falter, then we will say that it was all a crock and he was clueless. Building a winning franchise has so many variables (many outside of the coaches control) that it is impossible to say for certain whether someone's process is correct or not. Brady might has been a forgotten guy out of the league if the Bills or Jets had drafted him without a supporting cast.

No receivers.  No line.  Never planned on Allen being the guy this year.  What did you expect?   Loaded for next year with cap and picks.  Plan or not?

Agree! I think McDermott has time because they realize that they will be able to acquire ALOT of talent next year through the draft and through the cap space that they will get after this year. We hate to think of rebuilding years...but this is a rebuilding year.

pulling for Miami 100%.  I still think they’re going to cool off in the 2nd half of the season.

...just in time for the Patriots to figure their problems out. I am a die hard Bills fan but realistically, they are still 2 years out from winning the division. They need another good draft. Next year will give them relief under the cap.

I don't think the Bills have the personnel to use a "big nickel" successfully.  You've got to have a guy with some good measurables (size and athleticism) who mixes football intelligence and toughness.  They don't have that.  With Vontae Davis gone (and a disappointment before he left) they only have one quality starting CB.

We should have addressed this in the preseason...I don't see it getting better now.

As per Sporting News, are the Bills in fact rudderless, making contradictory moves

seemingly without a plan? Does Beane really know what he's doing? (With due respect, the Pegulas have demonstrated they do not).

    Thoughts?

I think it is a little pre-mature to throw in the towel. Both McDermott and Beane were handed a mess from the previous regime(s). Major personnel changes take several years...we knew that this would be a process the moment that they let Tyrod Taylor go without replacing him with an experienced veteran.

  6. I think that McD is a great improvement over the Ryan circus. If he is the man/coach that I think he is, you will start to see the results towards the end of this season. Think back to the Marv Levy days...it took a few years for the team to jell and for them to buy in to his philosophy. I can see that happening with McD.

The Bills finished 6th in rushing yards last season.  Their current O-line is good at run blocking, just not so good at pass protection.

I am hoping that the "experiment" that we saw in the pre-season was truly that...an experiment. I know that we do not have the most talented O-line but it will be a long season if they can't pass protect...

Just watched a guy try to demonstrate how Allen hesitated...then got sacked. Everything was slow motion. Then they showed Rosen supposedly showing more poise and being patient with a throw.  Their claim was that Rosen was so much more mature a QB.  Dumb asses didn't see that Rosen had like 4 seconds in the pocket? It was a retired offensive lineman doing the analysis (forgot the name). You'd think he'd know better and provide better insight on our line collapsing.....then the show cuts to Fantasy Football. Wow....NFL Network is rivaling ESPN in the dumb-ass parade.

Agree...the O line was like a turnstile...coaching staff stated that they were experimenting, but I am surprised they did that with the franchise QB. I think Allen kept his poise considering that he had no time to set and throw.

QB guru Greg Cosell liking what he sees now:

    Key point:

" He was consistently accurate. It was only one week and I'm only telling you what the tape shows, but he looks like he's being coached. It also looks like he's being receptive to that coaching. "

Check it out.  Cosell has some points about Daboll calling a game that forced Josh to work on aspects of his game that were weak in college.  He is one of the guys who actually spend huge time watching tape and know how to assess it.

I will have to admit that I have been pleasantly surprised by the play of Allen. I am not a big fan of throwing rookie QBs in the mix, but he appears to have the right stuff. We will get a better picture on Sunday versus the Bengals...especially if they throw a bunch of blitzes at him.

Aaaaaaand we've reached peak 2018 Bills offseason.

On a serious note, though...Richie's is a very sad story. It seems pretty clear that he has mental illness that was under control for a while, but seems to have come back full force. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Yeah...we will reading more about him and I don't think that it will be good. I really thought that he had turned a corner after that incident in Miami.

The final score in preseason is meaningless.  First team, second team who plays better?  Buffalo looked good.   Allen showed potential.  I'm curious how he looks with a supporting cast that will make the team.  If he continues to play well and earns a chance at starting next week my optimism is sky high.  I believe Allen could have a big Ben type of entry into the NFL.  Buffalo relies on shady and defense, Allen makes enough plays win games.

Agree! Everyone gets hung up on the score...the fact that the offense could move the ball down the field consistently and score is more important and a better indicator of future success.

I love and hate this time of the year.  Love football is back, scared to death with every practice we lose a key player.

I agree...this is why it is so difficult to read the predictions about win/lost record before the final roster is set. The loss of an Aaron Rodgers or a Todd Gurley would have a major impact on your season.

We all know what to think about predictions in July, but of slight interest is we have both of his Super Bowl teams on the schedule...on top of the Pats twice.

I don't pay attention to predictions like this prior to Preseason (especially when injuries can dramatically change a team's fortunes). Most of the polls have the usual suspects in the Playoffs:  Patriots, Packers, blah, blah, blah.

You missed the memo.  Buffalo is still stuck in the 1950s and it snows every game.  It’s time to bring back the wing t and wishbone.  Modern Bills football.

Honestly, I would rather go young and cheap.  Murray or Peterson aren’t going to produce close to what they would want plus it’s a shaky offense to begin with.

I agree with young and cheap...fresh legs would be a better bet in this league. Running backs have a short shelf life and teams tend to pay for past performance.

and who was the other thug in that Florida State group that we drafted at running back? . . . Lesson here: character does matter.

That would be Karlos Williams who is currently suspended (surprise) and not playing. I do agree that character should play a role in the selection process...does no good to have great physical talents on the bench due to suspension.
