  1.

John Murphy on WGR just now. Don't draft a QB top ten because it sends the message to the fans that you are not a contender this year.

:wallbash: The stupidity of this football team is only matched by its puppets.

john murphy is the biggest tool and homer

Of course not....cuz NFL rulebook says you have to cut your existing quarterback(s) before you can draft another one or sign one from another team....duh...

my post was misworded but that was not what i meant (that you have to cut tyrod)... I meant if you stick with tyrod as your starter an not legitimately try to improve the qb position like we have in the past with fitz, ej, and now so it seems tyrod

our front office always trys to win with what we have and will not take chances on qbs in the 1st-3rd rounds.... qbs taken later should not be expected to be anything but a backup (unless you win the lottery like dak or brady, but that is the exception to the rule)

  2. IF this were even true then your missing the big picture

The identity of this team has been strong defense and look to improve the offense for years...that was the IDENTITY OF THE TEAM.....now that the defense has fallen off "both sides deserve their blame"

yes.....there are 3 facets of a football team.....offense, defense, and special teams.....but when one side of the ball improves by a ton....and nother side of the ball drops off by a ton......

    Well?

Then take a QB in the 2nd

but we have not been improving the offense.... our offense leads the league in 3 and outs.... employs average at best qbs.... and refuses to focus on passing in a league that gives the passing teams every advantage

and i would take a really good offense with a drop off in defense..... raiders had a worse defense then us last year and won 12 games

but your final point I agree with..... if the draft board falls that way take a 2nd round qb.... but if there is a guy at 10 that our front office believes in they should take him

  3. I'm a fan of the best QB available for 2017, and that is TT. The Bills are 15-14 when he starts. Not terrible. That last Miami game should have been a W.

Go out and get a Derek Carr at the corner store next time your out. And you can throw in their WR corp too. By the way, Oakland is a much better overall team than the Bills. hard to believe I know.

you have to try to get the next derek carr..... you will not find him by sticking with tyrod

  4. Defense didn't cost us the Baltimore game. Defense got killed when the offense went 3 and out 7 times in a row in the Miami heat. Offense wasn't the reason we won in Cincinnati.

The offense and defense each played their part in being an average to below average team.

this post is 100% spot on.... the defense gets way too much blame for last season when in reality both played there fair share

  5. Say what you want to about Fitz but he will have a career most qbs will only ever dream of. His ability to think made him a much better NFL career with a ton less physical ability than much higher draft picks.

yea you cannot argue that.... he signed two more than decent sized contracts (bills and jets)

  6. i think there are too many good defensive players to reach on a guy like Williams...he seems like a guy that will be picked in the mid to late teens.

mike williams is not a reach... you could argue that the value is better depending on which defensive players drop but calling mike williams a reach is not accurate

  7. I live in NC ... I don't think Trubisky has enough experience ... he's a Bortles clone to me .... its funny but week before the draft both on NFL network and ESPN ... the talking heads are all jumping on the Mahomes bandwagon ... apparently the arm is unmatched in the draft ... I struggle ... as his teams weren't winning teams ... I'll sit back for kid from USC next year .. if we screw up this year.

I'd rather us go in other direction and avoid taking one of these guys at 10. The quality QB's come from the 3rd and 4th rounds of late ... see history of Wilson, Prescott, and Cousins. So look at the QB's from Pitt, Tennessee and have them battle Yates or Jones. I'd like to see Cardale with another summer camp ... I think his arm is good enough for this league.

we are not going to be bad enough to draft darnold.........49ers, browns, and jets are all clearly worse

  8. So he built a defense 10 times better than the #4 ranked defense? That doesn't make sense.

And I guess drafting EJ and Cardale and bringing in Kolb, Tyrod, & Orton doesn't count as addressing the qb.

The defense with takeo spikes, london fletcher, pat williams, sam adams, nate clements, terrence mcgee, schobel, and others was the #2 ranked defense and was much more well rounded

if you think the names you listed above qualifies for adequately addressing the qb position good for you.... Buddy Nix drafted Levi Brown once too, I guess he knew how to address the qb position too

  9. TD: 31-49 (39 winning %), finished 8-8 or better twice in 5 years

Whaley: 30-34 (47 winning %), finished 8-8 or better twice in 4 years.

    Great, informative post though.

TD conducted a true rebuild that started with a 3-13 record.... and like I said he tried to address the QB position twice and built a defense 10 times better than whaleys... it did not work out (due to bad drafting and the Oline) but atleast he tried to address the QB and came alot closer to the playoffs in 2004 when they went 9-7 then any Whaley team

Do you ever post anything with real facts? Whaley has one less win than in a full year less than TD.

But you like his white hair so clearly he's better.

TD also went through an actual rebuild that included a 3-13 season.... the next season they jumped to 8-8

  10. The press leaks haven't been kind to Whaley, especially in the national coverage. Those paint the whole ship in a bad light. But overall, Whaley's been pretty decent from a strict personnel standpoint. Moreso in free agency than the draft, but still.

I think the current narrative is Whaley's had his wings clipped by ownership (and perhaps Brandon, and the head coaches, who have all been owner-hired) and thus doesn't really wield that much power anymore. If that's true, then sure he ranks towards the bottom, simply by reason of being ineffectual.

Whaley himself said you have to build through the draft and we have the fewest draft picks on the roster than any team in the nfl..... you cannot rely on Free Agency

He's #1 in passing the buck on things that didn't turn out well.

He had quite the Amen Corner on BBMB, they'd have defended him if he rang up 3 0-16 seasons.

So is this the year he is finally going to accept responsibility for anything to do with his job?

I am sure there will be an excuse for this season if it blows up

  11. I'm all for tempering expectations and not getting too high or too low in things like this, but to me Whaley is getting the shaft in much of the discussion around his tenure with Buffalo. First, like it or not Nix was the GM at time EJ was Drafted and whether DW was singing his praises or not, Nix pulled the trigger - that's on him, or accountability and leadership mean nothing. Second, let's not forget he did trade for arguably the best RB since Thurman to come to Buffalo and he's done well enough with guys like Hughes, and Brown Brothers at LB, Darby, and a number of other moves that did well on the field, i.e. Incognito. However, he also gets the blame for QB carousel and NOT finding a long-term solution, for the Watkins trade - not Watkins the player himself - but the trade cost too much for what he got in return, and for some of the other players who have not performed as expected. Basically, I believe I would put him in the middle of the pack and say that this current Draft is his final show to decide whether he should remain the Buffalo zip code or go find housing somewhere else.

excuses excuses excuses..... whats the win/loss record of the roster he built?
