  1.

We don't know if SW doesn't want to be here...but let's pretend we do...Is it smart to pay a WR top 5 $ if he does not want to play for us ?....Is it far fetched to think we wouldn't get his absolute best ? Especially if there's some guaranteed $....

We need players willing to go through brick walls on this team....players that buy in what the organisation is selling.....

then expect the playoff drought to continue... good players want to get paid

  2. Funny that I was a piraiah on the BBMB for saying that before it was cool. I fought tooth and nail with people about EJ. He was literally the worst QB in the league, but you couldn't tell that to half of that board. He was the most over protected player I can ever remember in a bills uniform. It was sad. The guy was out played by every QB on the roster, each and every year he was in buffalo. Thank god he is gone.

This is very true but bills fans do this with every below average qb and when they are off the team they move on to the next.... we saw the same with losman, edwards, fitzpatrick, manuel, and now it will be tyrod

  3. i love how everyone says Rob Johnson was the right choice.... his stats were absolutely horrendous in the wild card game and he gave up a safety at one point (i think he was 9-18 for 107 yards or something)

bills would not have been a playoff team had Rob Johnson started all 17 games that year... Flutie struggled that year but it is not far fetched to think flutie could have done a little more to win that game

It was a fairly easy choice.

    Flutie had struggled all year.

Two mortifying HOME losses to non-playoff teams(Raiders/Giants) where Flutie was atrocious cost them homefield in the first two rounds and probably the easiest chance at a SB victory they had since SB XXV.

That Titans game in TN would have been the toughest challenge they faced.

And all the people who thought Doug Flutie might come up bigger in the playoffs had very short memories because he killed the Bills with his 5 turnovers in the wildcard game versus Miami the previous year facing a lesser team and a less hostile environment.

That MCM loss was a killer.......that was easily the best D the Bills have ever had since joining the NFL.......and a lot better than the Tampa defense that held the Rams to just 9 points in St. Louis in the NFC championship game.

They had a prime chance to steal a Lombardi that year......the same way that Baltimore and later Tampa did at that turn-of-century point where there were no great teams.

Flutie was responible for 3 turnovers not 5.... Eric Moulds fumbled a 50+ yard catch after being caught from behind and reed also fumbled in the 4th quarter (should have been called down) .... bills also had a eric moulds touchdown ruled out of bounds and an andre reed obvious touchdown ruled short of goalline (which led to 15 yard penalty for spiking his helmet - pre-replay era)

  4. i am not sure what it is and i'm sure i'll get flamed but could care less. it just seems to me that i could go to the old board and read for hours. there was always new threads and takes. a lot of back and forth and generally good humor.

however, after that midnight shutdown and having to come here, i see the same tired threads that last for weeks and go to 40 pages.

the bills home site has fresher stuff than this and i always immediately used to just click on message boards. this is a tired, stale forum...imo.

there's only so much on billswire...hell, i'm forced to surf bleacher report. i don't know if anyone else feels the same ,but i miss the old message board. this place is a bore. i could log in once a week and see maybe two new threads or have to click on page 40 of something that's old news.

i know it's the offseason, but this just ain't the same.

any other of us labeled lowly refugees feel the same?

I agree with you... this is a good forum too but there is just not as many new threads as the bbmb

I could go on bbmb daily and find something.... on here i see the same threads every morning

  5. With all due respect, is it really self-explanitory?

I love Sammy as much as the next man, and to be honest I was probably in the minority of those excited about the move up to snag him. He's been far and away our best receiver on the field when he's been out there, it's clear to see he's Tyrod's favorite target, and he's battled through some tough injuries that could've easily shelved other receivers.

However, the bottom line is he has yet to prove he can stay healthy, stay on the darn field. And to be completely honest, when he's been out there, he has put up respectable, if not impressive numbers. But I struggle to believe that if he were to become a free agent that he would immediately be on all 31 other teams radars. Okay, let me rephrase, he MIGHT be on most teams radars, but do you honestly believe that he is going to command a blockbuster deal? While I'm sure that there might be a team or three that is willing to overpay for his services, I think many teams would probably want to give him a "prove it" type deal, if anything for the simple fact the kid just can't stay healthy.

I was chatting it up with a Cowboys fan yesterday, and the guy was a football fan yes, but very knowledgeable, not so much. When we were talking about the upcoming season, and I was mentioning that Tyrod would finally have Sammy healthy to start the season, the first thing he said was, "has that guy ever played a full season? He is never healthy." I thought it was funny that a guy who really knows nothing significant about the Bills only reference to Sammy Watkins was that he's never healthy. Again, this is just my humble opinion. But a poster once said, "give me the average receiver who plays a 16 game season over a superstar who is only available 8 games a season 1000 times out of 1000. I hope that Sammy balls out this year, and if so, we franchise him in an effort to hammer out a new contract extension. I'd love to see what his numbers would look like for a full season.

who are you kidding....Sammy is definitely going to get a block buster deal

were you one of the people saying Gilmore would not get one?

  6. yes. Its still illegal. You cannot arbitrarily decide which federal laws you wish to use. A federal law is a federal law.

no, no they're not if taken as prescribed.

Pain pills and alcohol have absolutely no reason to be a part of this debate except for those unable to actually sustain a debate. Its a red herring.

Pot is dangerous and illegal and the amount of disinformation out there is beyond absurd.

wow please state your facts..... pain killers and alcohol are not as dangergous as weed? what world are you living in

  7. Tryrod is just not going to cut it. He's a great athlete and an OK qb. I want more than than. I'm guessing the Bills do take a qb if Trubisky, Watson, or Mahomes are there at 10. Why is a terrible move to take a QB at 10, but it's perfectly fine to take one at 18 - 32? If you target a qb as an NFL caliber starting QB, then take him when you can.

you have a good point here... but it is all about risk.... acceptable risk (IMO) increases as you move back in the draft

when you are in the Top 10 you want to minimize as much risk with the selection

  8.

Except what you just said wasn't true. Our offense did enough in most those games to win, and the D lost the game for us, including Oakland where we were up big before the D gave up 4 straight TD drives.

that is not true... if our offense did enough in the oakland game they would have not given the ball straight back to the Oakland offense so quick in 4 straight drives that included a back breaker turnover by tryod

yes the defense struggled but Oakland had a worse defense then us and there offense instead of doing what you consider "enough" carried the load and won the game

its a team game but if the offense has a chance in the final 5 minutes they need to more times than not win the game... if your offense scores 38 points but is losing by 3 points with 2 minutes left... is it ok for them to **** the bed and blame the defense because they "did enough"?

  9. That's fair. I have been on board with trying to acquire another 2018 1st. I think that Darnold and Rosen will fall in that category. You would have the amount go get them (especially if the Browns or some other team that takes QB finishes at the bottom).

this would be ideal but there is just too much risk and easier said then done.... most of the time if you are picking in the top 3 you need a qb.... even if browns (and have already selected lets say tribusky or watson) have a top pick and darnold and rosen are the real deal, you have to expect at least 2-3 other teams also trying to trade up for their services... that is a lot of competition and uncertainty

  10. I would be willing to bet that a QB at 10 would have a similar rate of becoming a franchise QB as a second round QB historically.

In reality, the best QBs are drafted in the first few picks, definitely before 10, and then the late gems. (wilson 3rd, brady 6th, etc...) My opinion is you draft a QB in the first 3 picks or you wait until later rounds. No need in wasting picks (like the jets) just drafting a qb yearly for the sake of it. OP wants to believe all you need is QB but that is only true with the Cheaters. Even Peyton Manning and Drew Brees needed significant help getting rings, and only did when they had defenses that were class of the league. Are you suggesting we will get a QB better than Manning or Brees at the tenth overall freakin pick?

i get what you are saying but you need the qb first or you will build a team that is average and wins 7-8 games a year just leaving you out of the top 10 of the draft every year and missing out on the top qb prospects....i mean that is really the reason Bills are in QB purgatory is because we only have had one legitimate shot when we picked at 3 and cam newton was the only qb prospect worth taking....therefore you truly do have to gamble and hope you win the next lottery (wilson, prescott, cousins) in the later rounds

the OP is right.... it does not matter until we have a qb

  11. I sort of like being contrarian in our approach. Run in a league where teams are built to stop the pass. Two tight ends can help the run game and still allow for a good and challenging passing attack (with he right guys). Makes for difficult matchups as the Cheaters have demonstrated.

Of course I like the idea of spreading the field to run too. Who am I kidding? I'm a fan of anything that works.... :)

it is really working for us too :wallbash: 17 years and counting

  12.

Covered this in another thread but:

Number of drives that went 3 and out

    Jets 38

    Bills 39

    Patriots 43

    Dolphins 53

Fewest in league was Atlanta = 24

Most in league was San Fran & Rams tie = 59

Bills did not have anywhere near as many 3 and outs as people assume they did in 2016.

Bills were ranked 12th for most yards per drive.

As a unit, Bills offense was no slouch in 2016

Except Tyrod is an upgrade from Fitz and from EJ.

    So.....

Seems to me like the Bills are on the right track.

And I am sure they want to make sure the next QB is an upgrade to what is there now rather than just close their eyes throw a dart and hope. What is so hard to understand here?

Fitz was given way too much time before they pulled the trigger on drafting qb.... EJ would have got the same treament but (we closed our eyes and threw a dart) with Baltimore's backup and he beat out 2 below average qbs for the job (cassell and ej)....heck there were fans arguing EJ should have been the starter in training camp when Tyrod clearly outplayed him.... I would not use that as an argument that the FO is on the right track with qb progression over a 9 year span

closing your eyes and throwing a dart would also be drafting qbs in later rounds.....
