I believe the signings so far are just good deals to get veterans filling holes in the roster without spending a huge sum of money.
They did this last year and this is just a continuation of that philosophy. They might target a few higher priced veterans for specific needs just like they did with the safeties they now have.
That they did it to be able to move up in the draft is just speculation.
I believe the real question is; Do the Bills see a franchise QB in this draft? Is it just one guy or are there 6 possible franchise guys?
I believe the Bills are just positioning themselves to be as flexible as possible come draft day. No one knows what Browns or Giants will do including the Browns or Giants.
Wonder if either of them takes the QB Bills want, do they move up to take # 2 or # 3 on the list?
I would not be surprised if the Bills take a VET FA QB and take another developmental QB without moving up. It's all speculation.

This team may very well regress record wise in 2018 as it lays the foundation for a team that will compete at a high level year after year. Need 2 DLs, 2 LBs, a Center, a #1 WR, at least one guard, a QB, and depth. The process means you keep filling the holes with personnel that fit, always trying to get better. I want to see a team that plays hard, and is getting better week after week. Bills were lucky to make the playoffs last year, but even if they hadn't I liked the direction the team was going. I'm hoping this draft for the Bills will be as productive as 2017. Maybe they can find some more FA gems. Already like the Davis signing. GO BILLS.

I would guess that the Bills would like someone more athletic than Brown. If true, I would think they would not want to commit to him long term and since this is his chance for a big payday, I believe it will be somewhere else. I could see the Bills offering a 2 yr deal as they try to fill other holes. I'm sure Brown is looking for more.

I agree. Doubt anyone in this draft class could have helped the Browns last year, and I certainly wouldn't crown kizer as "the guy". But if Browns, and Giants decide to go QB, Bills might want to evaluate whether using a lot of draft capital to get the 3rd best QB this year has more upside than someone like Kizer. Of course the big challenge here is that FA starts before the draft, and no one really knows what the Browns and Giants are planning. Just to be clear, I have no preference one way or the other regarding Kizer. I was just thinking that Browns might be interested in trading Kizer if they decide to take a QB early and would be interested in a one year option on a bridge QB like TT. I do think someone like daboll might be interested in a QB like Kizer who has a strong arm, can run and is not afraid to stand in the pocket to deliver a pass.

If the Bills sign Keenum (for example), I’m not opposed to Tyrod and a 5th for Kizer and a 3rd (or something like that). I wouldn’t love the situation but it would make sense for both teams. I still prefer the trade up for a top guy.
Kizer was considered to be the 4th best QB in 2017 Class partly based on only 2 years experience, and some other factors. He should not have been the starter for Browns last year, but he became the starter because the alternatives were pretty abysmal. It obviously depends on if the Bills see any potential in him to be a possible franchise QB in the future. If the Bills were to trade TT for Kizer, the Bills would be getting him on a rookie contract, he already has NFL experience so they have film in which to evaluate him. Browns would be getting a seasoned starter in TT while the QB they draft could be learning.
Some draft analysts compared Kizer to Rothlesberger. I don't know that the Bills would see him that way.
I don't see Cousins coming to Bills and I don't know that Keenum would be interested in a 2 - 3 year contract. One way or the other, the Bills still need a Vet starter. Kizer, Peterman, a Transitional vet. They can all compete in Training Camp and may the best QB win.
I just see Kizer as an interesting alternative to moving up in the draft to grab a QB that will require a lot of draft capital. I also think Kizer could be viewed as maybe the fifth QB in this upcoming draft if he had come out this year. He does have some very interesting upside.

Kizer was a 2nd round pick last year and while he didn't have a great year, he was a rookie.
6' 4", 230 lbs, Strong arm, capable runner. Lots of potential. I do not know how he compares to this years QB crop but I am sure others on this forum can offer expertise. Bills would still need a bridge QB but Maybe that would be a way to go and use the draft capital to build the foundation for a contending team for years to come.

I think the problem the Bills face with Preston Brown is that they might not see him as a long term answer at ML but would love to keep him on a 2 yr deal. Preston will probably be looking for a longer term deal.

According to Spotrac, if I am reading it correctly, it is 3 yrs for 39.6 Million.

Foles would cost draft picks and I would guess Eagles might want to keep him since he is good insurance at a reasonable cost for a team that is a returning SB champ. Fitz will probably win you a couple TT wouldn't but will also lose you a couple TT would win by not turning the ball over. Would love Bradford without injury concerns but I would wonder if he still doesn't consider himself to be a starter and not a bridge. Bridgewater; who knows what you are getting there (injury and really, how productive was he when he did play?), and I can't say I know anything about McCown except that he would be 39. I guess they all have their warts.
Myself, I would like Bradford if he checks out medically. He's basically had a year to rehab and was active for the playoff run. Bills would just have to realize that Peterman would be the second stringer with whomever they draft inactive for most of the year. Problem there is that Bradford would want more than a one or two year contract and would want starter money.
I just wouldn't be surprised if the Bills kept TT for another year, and while he isn't a perfect fit, maybe Daboll runs an offense better suited to TT while incorporating principles for when the change is made. I just remember watching the Alabama offense look entirely different when Hurst was removed in the second half of the Championship Game.

I wonder if TT could be an option as a bridge if Daboll believes he can put together an offense that would maximize the strengths of TT while the drafted rookie learns some of the nuances to being a QB in the NFL. I don't believe they will find a starter for the 9 million it costs the Bills to keep TT another year (minus the dead cap). Also, though many on this board would believe otherwise, Peterman might improve immensley in yr 2 and beyond. He reminds me a lot of Cousins, minus all the interceptions. I still like Peterman. Just wish he had a stronger arm.

If Giants are foregoing a QB with pick 2 I would think the Giants would be intrigued to trade out of that spot unless they see someone that they just have to have.
If The QB the Bills want is there at two, they need to do what needs be done to ensure they they get him. If they don't, a team like the Cards, Jets or Broncos will make that move and Bills fans will watch the next franchise QB play for someone else, just like we will watch Mahomes and Watson and wonder what might have been.

I like Gronk minus the hit on TW. He has taken some big hits and has had some painful back problems. I can certainly understand getting out while he has the opportunity to lead a less painful retirement. I am sure he will have opportunities to make a good living after football. Being able to have your health and be able to enjoy your life without additional pain has to be something he should seriously consider.

Smith could be more of an option than people realize as KC is projected to be almost 9 million over cap for 2018 and they have other FA on team to sign as well as Draft.

Ultimately, I believe the Bills look at a Lawson or a Hughes and say; Do these guys fit in the system we want to run? Would we have drafted either of them in any round? The Bills have a very clear idea the skill set they want at each position and I think these, and others, don't fit that model. Still good players, just not right for what the Bills are looking to do. I just think it is hard to replace your entire defensive line in one year, assuming Kyle retires. Fortunately for the Bills some of the DE they have (Yarbrough and Ryan) were situationally productive. DTs, not so much. I hope they have a list of -under the radar personnel- they have their eye on cause there are a lot of holes to fill. Hopefully they can do to the Defensive line and LB core what they did to the secondary last year. If they can, this defense can be special.

Probably didn't help that TT threw quite a few passes bordering on "out of reach" with that type of injury. Let's hope the torn labrum contributed to some of the poor performance. He appears to be hard worker, and I like that he still tried to gut it out and it is only heard about after the season.

Many might have speculated, only one brazenly called it. Come on guys, give credit where credit is due. Inside info or not, if McCoy and Tice come on board, give the man his kudos.

I don't believe they will cut Hughes or Glenn, unless Glenn doesn't heal from off season surgery. If you will only save 9 million in cap space by letting them both go, you might as well keep them for another year, once again - as long as Glenn recovers. They might look to trade either or both, but It would be very difficult to replace basically the entire defensive front 4 (minus Lawson) and reserves in the off season, especially if Kyle retires. This team is still a couple of years away from being the type of team that can compete at a high level year in and year out. Fortunately, the FO can take their time to evaluate, see where they can improve via FA and the draft and decide from there.
My hope would be that Kyle comes back one more year, they get a FA DT and draft one early. I also hope they bring in a FA LB and draft one there also.
If Glenn could come back, he and Dawkins could be the bookend Tackles that would really solidify the line for 1 - 3 years at that position.
TT will be gone, I believe they will get a Veteran to lead the team next year and look to find a later round QB in the draft unless one that they highly value falls to a range for them to move up to.
I also can't see Clay, Incognito, or McCoy being moved. Each plays at a level commensurate with what they are being paid.
It will definitely be an interesting off-season.

Despite getting to the playoffs, I expect a massive overhaul in the offseason. We could easily see in the area of 10 new starters across the roster. The next few months are going to be crucial towards the overall success of Brandon Beane and McDermott. While 2017 was mostly about purging unwanted players from the roster, this will be our first true glimpse at rebuilding. They need to make the right decision on whether to keep or fire Rick Dennison. And if they move on, they need to hire the right guy this time. They need to properly address the quarterback position, both in free agency and the draft. And they need to get a nice haul from the 2018 draft class, which they have so highly invested in.
Totally agree. Year 2 of "The Process" needs to make the most of FA and the draft to continue to improve the roster. While I liked the chemistry of this current team, I also believe they will upgrade from 7 - 10 positions on this roster. I believe that some of the conservatism in McDermotts in game decision making had a lot to do with the limitations of the current roster. I also believe it is hard to hit on 7 - 10 additions. Let's hope that 2018 draft is as profitable as was the 2017 draft class. Bills might not make the playoffs next year and actually have a better roster.

When we look back at this weekend, I wonder what will be most remembered;
1. Kyle's TD run
2. Dalton's TD throw on 4th and 12 from 49 yard line with 44 seconds left in game.
I have to admit, I was surprised that Kyle was the one to score and didn't realize it until after the play.
The Dalton pass to T. Boyd absolutely stunned me.

On the other side, if Jones catches the final pass versus Carolina, Bills win.
Bills get an over ruling of a fumble return for a TD in Miami game. If upheld, that game is over.
NE beats Pitt on a controversial catch/ no catch.
Bills have been lucky this year, but that what happens when you play close games. A play here or there can decide it.
I never thought Bills would make it to the playoffs this year after all the personnel changes made. Let's hope they don't have to depend on luck as this team continues to build and develop.

Now that Dennison has a full year as OC, he will have a whole off season to review what worked, what didn't, and who do they want to retain, who they might want to go after in Free Agency. The offense should be better. Whether they can become a top 15 offense is the real question that McDermott will have to evaluate. One thing I do know for sure, the Pegula's will do everything possible on their end to give the team anything it needs to be successful.

Peterman is a better fit for this offense than is TT. I would consider a FA QB like Smith for 2 - 3 years, get some line help, and a # 1 WR. Then, when it's draft time, look for a QB that is a good fit/ bargain and if there, grab him. If not, use the picks in this draft to fill the many holes that will help to make this team competitive for years to come. Dennison and Frazier both had challenges this year and I would like to see what they could do with players that better fit what they are trying to accomplish. We need another draft class like the one in 2017.

Wished they had shown the replay again after the ruling on the Preston Brown TD was reversed. Would have liked to see exactly where the Dolphins player was ruled OOB. No one noticed it prior to refs reasoning for overturning call on the field.

Hyde and Poyer turned out to be solid signings. If Bills can get 2 or 3 more solid FA signings this year, it would go a long ways of filling some of the holes currently on this team. Their draft last year was exceptional. Definitely need a repeat performance there also. They need to resolve the QB challenge, either through FA or the draft. If that happens I believe the core will be there for Bills to be competitive for years to come.
