1. Fish trade Feely and 7th rounder for Cleo Lemon.  - Who the hell is Cleo Lemon?  And didn't the fish get Feeley last year for a 2nd?  Wow, he sure has gone down in value.

Everyone seems focused on the Chargers and Feely but I think the craziest thing about this trade is Feely wasn't even worth Lemon (a QB no one has heard of) straight up. The Dolphins had to also throw in a 7th rounder. The speculation is that the Chargers are getting Feely to be the backup so they can trade Rivers. But they think so poorly of Feely that they wanted a 7th rounder in addition to give up Lemon? A really weird trade in my opinion.

  2. I think people can get a general sense of the team regardless of stats though. In 2003 - after we started off quickly and then lost a few games - I was pretty sure we were going to finish less 7-9 or worse because we were losing badly or barely winning (such as the win against the Bengals in overtime). Then last year - even when we were 0-4, I knew we were much better than our record indicated (kinda like this year's Raiders). Plus we had a tough early schedule and an easier late schedule. I thought we would finish around 8-8 because we were competitive in most of the games. This year - we are 1-2. We won comfortably over the Texans (who appear to be the worst team in the league) and we got dominated by two teams - one of which was devastated by injuries. (I liked how the commentators kept pointing out that the Falcons' starting cornerbacks were on the street without a job just a few weeks ago.) Eight points may not seem like domination but the Falcons controlled that game. I'd like to see how we look against the Saints (a mediocre to bad team) and the Dolphins (much tougher than I expected). If we look bad in those games - even we squeak out a victory against the Saints - we will probably go 6-10 or worse this year.

  3. Did you guys see Eli Mannig last night? He looked vastly improved in his second year.

Fact: There is a STEEP learning curve for NFL QB'S, and we are going to have to live through JP's.

Maybe this year isnt our year. But I still feel confident this kid can play, but he will have to learn how to play, he cannot be just put in there, and expected to succeed from the start.  Besides Rothlis.... who does that? No one.

    We must be patient.

Here's the problem that I see. When I watched Carson Palmer and Eli Manning in their first years - I saw flashes of brilliance. Sure they made stupid decisions and threw interceptions but they also had some great throws - especially deep balls. They both seemed fairly accurate to me - they just needed to improve their decision-making. Decision-making can be improved with experience.

What I have seen with Losman so far is that he lacks both accuracy AND good decision-making. He's completed one pass that could be called long (one of his first in the Texans game) and that's it. Yes, it's only been 3 games but I have not seen flashes of brilliance like the others that show there is room for improvement. And is it possible to improve accuracy? I'd be interested to see how accurate Losman was in college.

It's not the losses so much that bother me although I clearly would like to make the playoffs this year after such a long drought. But I am worried that Losman has not done anything thus far to show he can improve. He played decent against the Texans - which I was pretty happy about at the time - but now it looks like the Texans may be the worst team in the league. I definitely think we should play Losman for the rest of the season unless we think we can make the playoffs with Holcomb. But unless he shows a flash or two - I can't imagine giving him 3+ years like the Ravens have with Boller or the Lions with Harrington.

  4. I've been practicing for 4 years and have realized that I don't want to practice longterm. Although people say a law degree is useful for a number of jobs, I'm not sure that's true. It definitely does not hurt you but I'm not sure it's as much of an asset as people think - if you want a non-law job. So I wouldn't spend the money and the time if you are pretty sure you don't want to practice.

  5. and who, exactly, claimed that he's a brilliant guy?  go back and read my post again.

I was responding to JohnnyB's post who referenced "brilliant" people. I actually don't really care if he is intelligent or not (or if Tom Brady is intelligent or not) so I'm not going to continue to argue about this. If you think Parrish is smart (or at least not stupid), that's fine. I happen to disagree but I guess we'll never know until they create an intelligence test that is not "standardized" (since we can't trust the results of SATs, Wonderlic, or IQ tests).

  6. It sounded like he was nervous and he just mumbles or something. I think it is unwise to judge someone's intelligence based on his public speaking skills. I have met some of the most brilliant people who struggle when they are forced to speak to a large audience or to someone who intimidates them.

    326645

I actually can usually tell the difference between someone with poor speaking skills and someone who is not intelligent. But I don't understand this desire to prove that Parrish is intelligent. Tom Brady is dumb as a rock and it hasn't affected his success. You can be dumb and still understand football. I don't think Parrish's intelligence (or lack thereof) will have a significant effect on his success. But it seems a stretch to claim he's really a brilliant guy who just happens to be a poor public speaker and bad at standardized tests. (And I guess the fact that all Miami players score poorly on the Wonderlic is just a coincidence too).

  7. 'I had big goals, and then things went down for me,'' he said, ``but I couldn't sit there and feel sorry for myself. What it did was make me more humble and make me want to work hard. I look at every practice and every game as if it's my last. I felt like the first two games I didn't play to my potential. Some people feel sorry for themselves and keep going down the same path. You reap what you sow.''

call me crazy, but that doesn't sound like a stupid person.

Did you listen to his press conference? I don't think he said anything that was more than 2 syllables. Based on hearing him speak, I would say it is highly doubtful the above is a quote from him. My fiance listened to him as well and said he couldn't believe that guy graduated from a 4 year college. I'm not saying he's going to bust - I'm just saying if you listened to him speak - you wouldn't be trying to explain away his Wonderlic score. Everett sounded much more intelligent and that's not saying much. Duke blew both of them away and it wasn't like he sounded like Einstein just of above average intelligence. (Those were all the press conferences I listened to.)

  8. We noticed...we're just trying to ignore it.  If WM has a Pro Bowl year, I fully expect Rosenhaus to grandstand much like what he is doing with TO as we speak.

    305047

Don't forget that Rosenhaus is also the agent for Sean Taylor and Santana Moss - both of whom are holding out as well for new contracts. Sean Taylor has played ONE year and it was a good year not an amazing year. So I'm sure McGahee will be holding out next offseason even if he doesn't have a pro bowl year. We're just lucky Rosenhaus didn't talk him into holding out THIS year like Taylor.

  9. I'm getting married in October. We had planned to go to Grenada because it had everything we wanted (not touristy, lots of hiking, relaxing). However, our friend mentioned hurricane season to us. What are other options? We are both Europed out and although I LOVED Australia and Hawaii and want to go back at some point - both are too far for us. (We're only planning to take a week for our honeymoon.)

Any suggestions? Tahiti looks pretty awesome but I think that is too far as well.

  10. no reason for it to move, twas simply a question.

    283384

As a D.C. resident, I do think it is annoying we don't have ONE representative (I don't even think a Senator is necessary just one representative in the House). I don't think it would change that much but it's the principle of the whole thing. Even states with tiny populations have 3 Congressmen.

  11. Absolutely not!!!!! JJ isn't worth that kind of money based on what he has done so far.  That kind of deal could have strapped the Bills for several years.

    260826

While I agree that JJ is not worth the contract - it wasn't THAT exorbitant. Strap the Bills for years? Assuming the base numbers look something like this - 1st year - $1 million, 2nd year $2 million, 3rd year $4 million, 4th year $4 million, 5th year $4 million, 6th year $4.5 million, 7th year $5 million (total $24.5 million with $12 million signing bonus = $36.5 million). I assume the contract is even more backloaded but we can use these numbers to be conservative.

JJ's cap hit for the 1st year is $2.7 million - quite reasonable.

    2nd year - $3.7 million - still reasonable.

3rd through 5th years - $5.7 million - not great but not horrendous.

Assume he gets cut before his 6th year - dead cap of $3.4 million.

I don't think that would strap the Bills for years. If he actually could play every game - a stout left tackle for an average of $5 million a year is a good deal. Of course, given his injury problems - I think the 49'ers overpaid but not as insanely as some teams last year.

  12. so you think the pats will offer him over a million?

because it sounds like he will get that kind of offer from miami, and possibly cleveland.....

    233995

My fiance who is a Browns fan has heard the Browns will offer Mangini $1 million. He has also heard the Pats will not give him more than $750,000. However, Mangini is supposedly super loyal to Bellicheck and so the Browns thinks the odds are slim that they get him. My fiance thought it was probably 75% Pats, 20% Browns and 5% Dolphins.

  13. My advice:

    Don't get em.

I had them a few years back, and unless you include the cost of hotel and travel expenses, not to metntion the time involved, it ain't worth it.

    226282

Cost of hotel and travel expenses do make it much harder when the Bills lose but I love having season tickets! Besides - the Buffalo ticket is so much cheaper than most other teams and the hotels are very reasonable as well. You can't beat the atmosphere at a home game - it's so much better than watching on TV - definitely worth it.

  14. I am pretty sure face value for all tickets this year is $500.  FYI...Here is a table with the pricing for all past years.

I looked into this once and you have to enter into a lottery really early (like the spring) to have a chance to buy tickets at face value. The NFL only allocates a VERY small percentage to the general public. Really sucks because it ends up that corporations buy like 80% of the tickets or something ridiculous.
